I think if it's like a single player game that doesn't require a lot of downloads or updates from PSN, it installs quicker. Single player only games like Ratchet and Clank or say even remasters like Destroy All Humans! usually have a day 1 patch, which isn't too large with smaller updates down the line. Games like GTA V are up to like, psh, 1.119 builds now that require immense downloads, which could delay installation from happening quicker, depending on your ISP download speeds.

Thanks for the input. I was under the impression that the PS4 worked like XB1 where the full game is copied/ran from the hard drive, not the disc. Something about Blu Rays being too slow to read/play from. I know older systems like PS1/2/XB360 played the games from the actual discs. I could be wrong on that though. A recent example is a game I put in that was 15GB. It installed within 30 seconds and shows the full 15GB space used on my HDD. 30 seconds just seemed very fast to copy 15GB from the disc to the HDD.

PS4 installs for me have always been slow. My understanding was that it copies files from the disc, then might unzip them, then copies them to where they need to be. I think some games don't zip so those copy faster.

But most games do run off the HDD not the disc itself (typically). The disc may just be used to get to the initial load screen.

@sa330206 PS1/2 play entirely from discs. Neither has internal storage. You can add a hard drive to the PS2, that's mostly how I play PS2 currently despite having a decent PS2 collection. But that's not the intended use of the network adapter.

Most PS4 installs are slow for me, but especially big AAA type games.

I always found installs to be slower on the Xbox for some reason, but the Series X has stepped it up a bit I've notice and they've gotten a lot faster than the XB1 days.

PS4 tricks you with installs for a lot of games. It installs very quickly an initial batch file for most games (this seemed to stop towards the end of the systems cycle). And so the install looks like it takes 10 seconds on some games. But it is just that installer program. Which then will slowly install the disc in the back ground. But you can boot the game up right away playing it from the disc while it installs in the background. But if you don't, and you go look at the info by hitting start on the icon and then info. You will see it installing there. The disk usage will be slowly filling up to match the space it reserved with the batch installer that shows in the disk usage area. This is why it was hit or miss from game to game if it took 30+ minutes to install the full game or it appeared to be done in 10 seconds.

Which if you think about is much nicer than how the xbox one handled it, where it downloaded the full fudging game from their server. I used to get so mad when I had terrible internet trying to install a one game. If I didn't remember to disconnect the internet before hand on it so actually used the disc. It was so frustrating waiting 2+ hours for it to download the full game instead of using the disc.

Ohhhh I see. That's interesting. I never knew it stealthily installed games like that on PS4 incognito like even after it said installed and ready to play. Maybe that's why on Series X now it says "Ready to Start" like half way thru on some installs now while it installs and downloads the rest of the data in the background.

Does anyone recommend A Way Out? It's on sale and I've been eyeing it, but I know it's strictly local or online co-op. At least you only need one copy for online co-op.

Those devs have another co-op game called It Takes Two that is releasing later this month and again only requires one person to own the game.

A Way Out is cool with a buddy. Looking forward to It Takes Two. Josef Fares is a kooky nut but he makes pretty innovative coop games. Brothers was amazing.

My wife and I played A Way Out and enjoyed it. Also played Brothers, which was good as well. Definitely a cool idea. Co-op games are great.

A Way Out is awesome. I actually played it with someone on here. It has one part in particular that is especially tense and adrenaline-inducing. (I'm being deliberately vague about what/when so as not to give it away, but you'll know.)

Yeah like I don't mind the story but these scenes start to drag. It's also just really arrogant to assume everyone wants to sit through your story. The gameplay is decent, though not very challenging even on hard.

I could skip them all on NG but I didn't try first play through.

Not skippable. Some are decent and I liked them, but some are a total drag. And there are a lot.

The game is def worth sticking with. Some cutscenes are short. Just browse your phone or something.

Are we definitely in an age where people are easily annoyed by cutscenes to a great story in a great game? Smh. Ghosts of Tshushima is a gem. So rich in lore and story. Please enjoy this rare treat.

I'd recommend the multiplayer mode if you just want combat. It gets a little more difficult at higher levels.

Coop I'm still waiting to play when I get a PS5. I heard it's pretty good.

@TalonJedi87 I just like having the option and I thought in 2021 (or 2020 when the game was released) that we had moved beyond unskippable cutscenes. I love the setting and game world, hoping it gets more difficult to where I feel I'm in danger. I liked the beginning a bit more before it got into the open world. I hit the open world doldrums pretty early here.

I've heard it's amazing, so I'm trying to at least give it 5 hours.

The option to skip should be there though... I agree. I was annoyed that Miles Morales had a bunch of unskippable cutscenes during my second playthrough.

I struggled with GoT as well. I quit after finishing the first act for a month or so- then went back to finish the platinum. It's a good game and after it ended I appreciated it for sure- but I never saw it as one of the greatest open world games. The world is definitely nice to look at but so annoying to traverse on horse with all the elevation changes etc. Sometimes I think worlds 1/4 the size of what we get would be much better- way too much unused real estate.

I stopped playing just before Christmas I believe got busy then I tried a few more things, just did not have the time to give Ghosts it needed. But I absolutely love the game, it's extremely well done! I plan on starting it back up this weekend, if I try and plow through every Halo I will burn myself out.

But I will say if you plan on getting a PS5 and have not played GoT just yet and can wait I do suggest waiting. It's beautiful on a PS4 Pro, and outside of a few more frame drops it plays well on the base model... But the little patch the 60 fps patch they gave it just makes the game truley the most beautiful game I have seen to date. I can't tell you how many hours of gameplay have been spent staring at the tall grass or the flowing bamboo Forests.

There was a rumor of a PS5 remaster but I doubt it, there is no need. SP is probably hiring and ramping up for a sequel.

Did they change weekly sales to Wednesday? I remember it was usually always Tuesday

I am thinking about World of final Fantasy... I liked it and like most things I got distracted and never went back.

And I thought it was still Tuesday.... At least I did not notice this indie sale until today so I could not tell you when it started. They seem to be always running a sale though lately.

We already knew DOOM 3 VR Edition launches March 29 with Aim controller support and both DLC expansions included, but now we learn it is getting a physical release exclusive to GameStop for only $20. I'm down with that.

I really enjoyed Spider-Man, but the DLC didn't wow me to be honest. I didn't think the boss battles were as good as many of the regular game ones, and there's a really annoying and tedious set of missions with Screwball.

After beating Spiderman I jumped straight into the DLC and I think I'm still in part 2 (of 3). Or I finished 2 and didn't start 3 yet. Either way it's "more" of the game, and it's well done, but I kept losing interest while playing the DLC and haven't gone back. $25 is way too much.

The very last screwball quest was the only one I hated. You had to be at one with the sky zipping for sure.

Appreciate the opinion @Anxiouz - To be clear, the DLC was on sale for $10 when I posted the link, said it ended 3/25, figured that meant including today. Oh well I've passed for now.

Spiderman isn't even next up on my PS4 which I've not owned very long but have many games to play on it. Horizon is the next title for me, barely started it though.

The Witness was a great, great game. A puzzle game that doesn't hold your hand and just keeps building on itself from start to finish.

Anyone else having trouble adding the PS5 Oddworld game and Days Gone to their library from this month's PS+ offerings? The zombie game added just fine.

I already own Days Gone, but no issues with the other two on my end.

In the past I've had some issues adding games but not these. I've had the best success doing this every time now:

1. go here: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps-plus/this-mon...
2. click the "Find out More" buttons under each game and open them in new tabs
3. in one of the tabs click "Signin" (even though I'm usually already signed in I have to do this)
4. then refresh the game tabs and the Add to Library option should be there

I already owned Days Gone but redeemed for the other two on my ps5 and didn't have any issues

Just played ESP.RA.DE Psi on PS4. It's a 1998 shmup that's been revamped recently. Love this one. It's pretty intense. Vertical / bullet hell type stuff.

Yeah there is a sequel that is supposedly much better and considered one of top shmups ever. I've not checked it out yet. I'm trying to play acquire / play through the "top 25" shmups.

I loved Alien Isolation but it was quite a terrifying experience for me. Totally on the edge of your seat the entire time the Alien is around.

The game is intense at time but if you take things slow there aren't so much jump scares as just insane amounts of tension. If you like the Alien film, and stealth, it's an incredible game. $8 is a steal.

Alien Isolation can be very anxiety inducing. There's a PC mod for VR for it
