And nope. The point of Scart to HDMI(or anything to HDMI for that matter), is so you don't need the actual Scart connection and you can use HDMI.

Framemeister is an upscaler that can take a variety of connections and output HDMI.

I'm really only looking to use this for the Saturn and DC only. I'll have to check that SCART thing out, I've never heard of it before.

Sadly the Saturn and DC do not share the same connector. So you will need two different cables plus some sort of converter(scart, s-video, or component to HDMI).

While it's cheap to get a converter, they are generally pretty bad, you get what you pay for.

Do you know which systems do scart natively?

So, because of this:

"All 480p Dreamcast games look great through VGA and if you have a display that supports a 480p input, then that's by far the best output method. If you use an RGB cable, the few 240p games that are available will look great, but all other games will only output in 480i. As a result, an RGB cable is only a good option if you're using a display that only supports 240p and 480i."

I think if you are unable to do VGA on a Dreamcast, I would probably still go with S-video to HDMI...if only for the fact that almost every other system can also do S-video, which makes he device convenient in many ways.

Since many systems don't do RGB natively, it's way more limited. Just my .02...

lol

retrorgb.com is a great resource. You just need to do a little research.

Dreamcast is different from other Gen V and Gen IV consoles since it can do VGA, so that's definitely the easiest and cheapest way for DC.

Yes, quite a few systems can't do RGB natively, but alot do!

Here's a list off of my head, list of systems without modding that can take RGB Natively.

Systems Compatible With RGB Natively
Sega Master System
Sega Genesis Model 1 and 2, CDX, X'Eye
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
Super Nintendo Model 1
Atari Jaguar
Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CD
Sony Playstation 1/2/3

Systems Requiring Modification to Display RGB
Atari 2600
NES
Super Nintendo Model 2/Mini/Jr.
Nintendo 64
3DO
TurboGrafx 16/PCE

AWESOME!!! I didn't want to ask you for that info, because I was capable and didn't want to come off as lazy, but I'm pretty pumped that you offered it up!! raspberry

Are you using RGB for those? Which ones?

I can see not using a PS2/3 for RGB of course - but I assume RGB is the best for everything else (aside from the DC)?

Yes, if you have a device capable of RGB then getting a $10-$20 cable for that system is your best bet.

For a quick read, here's my first experience with an upscaler.

It's a funny thing about RGB. You try to convince non-believers and they think: "Nah, I'm not gonna be an idiot and spend all this money."

You just point them in the direction of pixel paradise, let them figure it out and connect the dots.

I disagree. There are PLENTY of SNES titles that you can't find elsewhere - whether on VC or the SNES classic (I'm not counting emulation here, because well - NO systems would be worth owning raspberry)

Really? Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure 1/2, Skies of Arcadia, Ikaruga, Shenmue 2,..all done VERY well on other systems.

The fighting games might have been a little better on the DC, but stuff like MvC2, SF3 Third Strike, SFA2/2 (whichever) were still very good on other systems.

Which ones are you referring to exactly?

Like 18 of the top 20 best SNES games are available elsewhere.

Having beat SoA numerous times on both DC and GCN, its really a toss up. DC was the better game (in terms of audio plus a much harder level of difficulty), but the GCN had added content that the DC didn't have.

I'm referring to the games I had the most fun with. You can't get Shenmue 1 anywhere else, period, Chu Chu rocket (cell phone re-release, lol), MDK 2 (PS2 port was trash), MvC 2 (best version), Blue Stinger, Fur Fighters (again, PS2 port was trash), Toy Commander, Power Stone (PSP port was okay but required that each friend hve a PSP or you were stuck in solo, so DCs version is the best because of the easier local coop), Grandia 2 (PS2 port was trash), Bangai-O, Alien Front Online, Outtrigger, Confidential Mission, IllBleed, D2, Tokyo Extreme Racer 2, Zombie Revenge, Time Stalkers, Ready 2 Rumble 1 & 2 (best versions by far on the DC), Spawn in the Demon's Hand (I know what you're thinking, screw you, this game had some FUN couch coop). I'm sure theres more like some fighters and SHMUPS, but these are the ones off the top of my head.

Why did you stop at the top 20 though? There are 100 more GREAAAAT SNES games...most of which cannot be found anywhere else. I mean, you went well beyond the "best" Dreamcast games in this argument below...

smile Many of these games are not very highly rated. But fair enough, they are your personal list! In that sense, yes - every system is worthwhile to the person who loves it.

But, if we are making a top list of the titles on DS and SNES, the SNES list would be quadruple the size,...and a smaller percentage of those SNES titles are found elsewhere.

Hopefully my writing was clear...it was kind of randomly thought out.

I can find the scores later, but I'm sure that none of those went below an aggregate score of 75 or 80. Those titles I listed above are more than enough to warrant having around a console that you can buy for $30 used.

I hope to God I never see a FF6 remake. They would make it a re-imagining and completely screw it up by making it an action RPG. They're doing this to FF7 and, other than BG&E2, it was the most disappointing game reveal I've seen in the past 5 years.

same, im down to give it a chance because of my undying love for all things ff7, i constantly have to make myself calm the hype down. i also haven't looked into whether or not all the voice actors are coming back for this but i hope they do.

You're right. Thinking about it, it would be weird not to have that Advent Children cast. But I'm trying to stay as open as I can about this remake. I actually don't care if they switch up the gameplay as long as they don't mess with the story and tone of the game. And I hope the decision to split things up means it will be polished and won't feel like it needs another 3 years in the oven. That's probably my biggest fear. And please don't mess with the overworld or with the materia system.

Sigh...now I'm getting all worked up about it.

i know, so many fears, but if they keep the tone, story and sub systems other than the ATB intact it could still be good, but i don't want characters changed or the story altered. for many many years they said they avoided this project because unless it was perfect it would be hated, so they seem to understand that expectations and standards are going to be pretty high.

It could have been really easy to remake this and avoid the hatred. Simply remake the game and don't change anything other than graphics, maybe clean a few things up, and possibly give it voice acting. Done. Instead they went and pretty much remade the game. They're making it a lot harder than it needs to be in making this "perfect". Plus making this episodic leads me to believe they don't really know what they're doing because that's just a total money grab. I also have the suspicion that they're going to add a bunch of pointless side quests to artificially bloat the game's content.

I have no doubt in my mind that a project of this scope, Square Enix would go bankrupt before releasing the FF7 remake.

Yeah, they don't have any problems releasing it on 5-6 different consoles but go forbid they update the graphics even to PS3 standards. It would have taken a lot less time and money over making a whole new game. We saw how efficient they've been with game production with both FF15 and KH3.

they must not be putting enough manpower into this stuff, it took forever to do 15 and KH3 has been in the works for many years as well. I know it takes a long time to make the huge rpgs but dang.

the episodic thing is def a money grab but its as huge as they say maybe this is also a way of actually putting something out before 2025

I actually owned an xbox when the duke was out. I just could not get used to the black white buttons for the Halo flashlight. My hands are smaller. So the S controller is def much much better for me. But the duke is a cool controller. One of the strengths of the Xbox was that it seemed to be a dreamcast part 2. BC Sega put a lot of their games on it and even made a few new ones only on Xbox. Hell you can even look at the duke and see how it has almost a DC controller shape to it.

The biggest problem with the Duke is the same issue I have with the old Shield controller (vs. the new one)...the giant tumor at the bottom that just kinda gets in the way. I like a nice open space down there....

I guess that Sega went to MS and were pretty much bagging them to buy them out and when MS said no and made their own console instead Sega then wanted MS to make all DC natively BC on the OG Xbox. The one requirement that Sega wanted was to have all their online games remain online games and MS said no so the deal fell apart. Instead, Sega and MS agreed to an 11 game exclusive agreement which brought the likes of JSRF, Sega GT, Gun Valkerie, Panzer Dragoon Saga, etc.... only to the Xbox. I've pretty much looked at the Xbox like the DC2 as its the closest thing we're probably ever going to be.

I was worried that the new style wouldn't play as well, since it's bluetooth instead of Wifi....but it's really great. Yeah, the old one worked decent enough, but the new one feels REALLY great to hold.
