I actually want another Switch at some point but I'm doing the sensible thing. I'm waiting. I just can't see paying the current going rate when I want to play another 1-2 games on it (I only care about exclusives because why would I play anything else on Switch).

The Switch would be more interesting if it wasn't an Nvidia shield. Having underpowered hardware has been Nintendo's MO though.

I'll always enjoy Switch for the first party titles and the VC/Arcade content (it's the best Shmup machine next to Dreamcast/PCE now, imo, and arguably better). And Diablo 3's admittedly masterful on the system. But the vast majority of third party titles are just... not a treat on it. For obvious reasons. It's been shown through BotW that it's capable of bringing some fantastic stuff to fruition but until Metroid Prime 4 comes out, the stuff I mentioned and Smash5 are about it.

I do find it amusing that the Konami collections run like trash on Xbox (and Xbox One X!) but run fine on Switch/PS4.

You... really don't know, do you?

The game is insanely popular because the game is really fun, besides the fact Switch players of all ages were using it to exercise at home, even before this mess started. The manufacturer couldn't meet the demand, especially because butt-hole RESELLERS ARE BUYING UP ALL THE SHIPMENTS OF THE GAME AND SELLING THEM AT A HUGE MARKUP. Also, no Chinese clone manufacturer has been able to duplicate the specialized controller the game uses.

So it's not a flash in the pan thing. This game really IS that popular.

Well, that really shows how much you know about the game... your hands are just one third of the controller.

What do people think of the "dualsense"? I think it looks ugly but I always dig stuff like haptic feedback, resistant triggers. I remember the Xbox One Trigger rumble and hearing the XB1 version of GTA1 used it pretty well for feeling the wheels peel out on the road and run over certain bumps and such.

i think its gonna feel great and be comfortable, looks like they are having their first big evolution, the DS4 is a huge step up from the ds3, going back to a ds3 now is super gross for me, i never realized how much i didnt like how it felt til the better ds4. its a step up but its kind of just a much better dual shock. this looks like another good leap. im sure there will be 30720 different color schemes to choose from eventually if this gen has been any indication when it comes to controllers. it looks pretty comfortable, now if they will just make that last step and switch the left stick and d pad

RTT work from home question, does anyone have a super nice desk? I'm upgrading my ergonomic situation from my cramped IKEA desk. Flat pack desks are too thin/flimsy for multiple monitors and mounts and stuff. Heavy duty stuff is like thousands of dollars. Is the only reasonably priced heavy duty option to stick some DIY legs on a butcher block?

Furniture is one of those things where the extra money you put in up front pays off in the long run. My desk is expensive, but it's almost 20 years old and punching above its weight class.

This isn't about desks but if you don't care about what your furniture looks like (extremely great benefit of not being married) you can get some awesome deals. I have a table from a school that is a tank that I paid $5 for and a thick hexagonal table that I think was $10. A lot of my games are on shelves even I desired to repaint for $5 a pop. In my bedroom I have a monitor and speakers on wood and marble table thing that used to have a radio and crap inside a drawer underneath. I gutted it out. That was free...

I have a pretty small desk but as things are currently set up I don't have room for anything bigger.

Funny thing about this...

Yes, the sprites look really choppy. When I did my playthrough last week, I enabled the "Increase sprite limit" option on my MiSTer (I don't normally do this, but I was curious), which is supposed to disable flickering like this. Strangely enough, the players still flicker quite a bit.

Why? It's how the game shows your character is active or targeted. If you're holding the ball, only one character blinks; either a teammate or an opposing player, depending on which direction you're facing. As you move around, that single character will change, depending on where your pass/throw will end up.

So when you play the game, you're seeing unintentional blinking from the NES' hardware limitations AND intentional blinking from the game's non-obvious UX.

Doing the best I can! We are closed but I am still shipping orders, making enough to get by and feed my family which is really all that matters right now. I expect the pandemic to cancel our biggest show of the year however, TooManyGames. That's like 20% of our yearly intake down the tubes - but at least I don't have to spend the next 2 months aggro-buying high ends at 70-80% to build the table stock.

I'm personally just trying to improve things around my house and actually play some games without feeling guilty for once. Not like I can go anywhere else! Hoping y'all are safe and healthy in this. Let me know if any of you want to play Dark Souls III. cool smile

I sold my Switch V1 without the dock (kept it so I could have 1 in the living room too) for $300. I felt fine about it. It's not like I ran out and bought Switches when I knew a shortage was starting to happen, just to flip for max profit. I had just upgraded to a Switch V2, was trying to figure out how much to sell my old one for, and found out they were selling very high at the time. Nothing wrong with selling at market price.

We do! www.forgottenfreshness.com - I generally used it as a place for doubles and triples of things we have in the shop inventory, and just listed things in my free time, but now since most of my time is free time I've been posting a lot more. Will have all our Switch games up tomorrow I think and then I'm going to move on to retro stuff, probably more NES & some other various things. We also have a catch-all instagram for oddball things, usually stuff that's a hard sell in-store (like sealed games) or stuff that falls below our in-store condition guidelines. You can check that available stuff out here: https://www.instagram.com/forgotten_freshness/?hl=...

I watched it. I'll keep an eye on future tests/reviews. it's something I might get just for the saturn games.

Yea that Saturn support looks good. I almost just want it for that. 299.99 is steep though. If this were a 199 system I would buy it. I also want to see them shipping final units before I pull any kind of trigger. MVG got a used system. I bet it was a demo unit they used at a game convention. I am wondering if this thing is actually in production yet.

it's not high on my list though. Continue with my switch ps1 and ps2, then PS5 at launch.

Why do old video games have value but old movies are worthless. Your wall of $4 blu rays you could theoretically watch in your lifetime even if you have 2500 blu rays and keep buying more. Your shelf of 100 $75 RPGs you'll never get around to. Buying Xenonsaga Episode III thinking you'll ever play it is a waste of everyone's time and money. I think movie collecting is even a bigger hobby than game collecting, just people focus on personal taste more than value.

Side note, everyone throw out their $4 blu rays instead of hoping someone will ever buy them.

Different hobbies have different price points. I'm guessing what you are getting at is the video game market being weird? I think there are people collecting just for the sake of it in every hobby. Someone on another forum I use made a checklist for every current Sentai Filmworks release. I like anime a lot obviously but I can't imagine buying everything put out by one publisher. Discotek is muh fave but I believe I am buying less than half of what they put out even as my buying from them has increased a lot since December. June is dope though, getting 3/5 releases.

And hey I've played through the Xenosaga games. Never paid that much for them though. :p

On the subject of Discotek Blu-Ray , looks like Rightstuf broke the street date on Konosuba @DarkFact

Aw crap. I pre-ordered on Amazon, I'll cancel that if it's still pending. Let's see if they continue to break street date or if they have fixed that up.

It is MUCH easier to pirate a movie than it is to pirate a modern game.

Compared to video games, there are very few physical DVDs and Blurays that are worth money. Those that are, are because of physical extras, rarity / going OOP, or the series or movie having an insane fanbase.

I have many movies and CDs that are worth a ton. I wasn't planning on selling them, but I might have to to raise money for my move in a few months. Problem is, with the economy and the current pandemic... I dunno if I should risk it...

I don't agree with you about never getting to it. I get the value point. And I did shave my collection down to just stuff I can actually manage to play.

Also, movies tend to get re-released physically a lot, and it dilutes the original by providing a better experience on new hardware. The same cant really be said for games, as playing a vintage game on original hardware offers something more unique and authentic than watching an old vhs tape.

Neat. What are the limitations of something like this? For crapty old disc consoles I'm always torn between giving my old physical media a purpose and interminable load times. Side note, Animal Crossing New Horizon's load times are unacceptable. I can traverse the entire world of BOTW Hyrule with no loads but I have 5 second load times in between different rooms of the same ACNH house? Crappy.

- Price
- Compatibility
- BYO Media
- "It's not original hardware" mindset

Compatibility is likely not an issue. ODEs that drop in place of existing drives rarely have significant compatibility issues.

Media cost is likely not an issue, especially on these two platforms where good games are usually pretty expensive. As they point out in their video, even using an SSD on these is pretty cost effective.

"It's not original hardware" naysayers will never be pleased, so ignore them.

In the MODE's case, price is probably the biggest sticking point. Ignoring GDEMU bootlegs on eBay, it's likely going to be the easiest Saturn and Dreamcast ODEs to obtain for stock and logistics reasons, but it's also dramatically more expensive than even a legit GDEMU, USB GD-ROM, Fenrir, or any of the other options.

Speaking of price, I think making it work for two consoles is likely just a reason to increase the price. It could be argued that making one device makes fulfillment easier, but I see it more as a way to turn a marginal BOM increase and a moderate R&D increase into a (theoretical) increase in market value that adds no practical value for the customer. It's not like the device can be hotswapped easily between the two consoles.

They're claiming 100% compatibility.

Price at around $200 seems reasonable, PSIO is $125.

Incidentally I'm still looking for one of those Dreamcast SD card doohickies that plugged into the back of the system, if anyone has one. I only need to borrow it to grab the stuff out of my memory cards, before I sell everything off.

yep LRG says they'll sell it until 1 week after release so I'll have time to find out if it's good. With the recent retro fighter reveal and new gameplay it looks pretty good.

So, my Fenrir ODE for the Saturn came yesterday.

Using Redump images, every game I tried with Redbook audio has crazy amounts of audio distortion. I reached out to 8bitmods, and it's a known issue.

There are a number of "influencers" who received beta units that never brought up this issue, so I'm wondering if it's just my Saturn variant that's the problem, or if they've been told not to bring the issue up.

Try asking them about it. Get them on the record. Ask them to make more videos to test this.
