Thankfully I have no interest in actual PlayStation Vita games. I only have like 2.

On a related note, I've been going back to Vita for some PS1 classics(still the best way to enjoy PS1 classics without going the extra miles on upscaling).

First game down is Resident Evil: Director's Cut, first game of 2020 I beat.

I lament that Sony has not announced a Vita 2 entry to combat the Switch menace(I say that with all the love), take my money for a pre-order.

Vita 2: imagine a competent system that rivals Switch but has Sony content(PS1/PS2/PS3 Classics, PSP/Vita games in beautiful 1080p60, copy the crap out of the dock design too, why not)

As much as I hate to defy the old gods, I gotta disagree with ya, @Lunar. I believe the PlayStation Vita can best be summed up as a beautifully designed and technically marvelous failure. Why do I espouse such blasphemy? Well, the true merit of any video game system has always been it's library. It's why the Game Boy did, does, and always will beat out the far superior Game Gear and Atari Lynx any day of the week.

So, what killer franchises does Sony actually have to compete against the pantheon of Nintendo mythos? If PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale (PlayStation Vita) is any indication, the answer isn't very good or strong.

Now, don't get me wrong; I'm all about rooting for the underdog in the video game ring. I firmly aligned myself to the Sega camp back in the day and sided with the Sega Saturn over the behemoth that was the PlayStation and the Sega Dreamcast over the leviathan that was the PlayStation 2. Love 'em or hate 'em, both those doomed consoles had some killer first-party and third-party titles, thanks in no small part to Capcom and other top-tier Japanese developers.

Again, it all goes back to the question of what titles in the PlayStation Vita library are worth giving a darn? Seriously, I'd love to be enlightened. But, apparently, I just don't see what's so great about, really, any of the portable offerings Sony has brought to the table thus far.

I think there is a little bit of misunderstanding about my comment(which was more of a dig at how marvelously Vita failed).

Sony had all this success with PS1 and PS2. The PSP(which I loved!) did very well, particularly in Japan. (I have a fetish about playing PS1 Classics on OLED screen.)

How the hell did they not make 'Switch'? Vita should have been the "Sony Switch". They could have easily made the right product. But they didn't.

Instead of learning from their own mistakes(UMD? Memory Stick Duo? Stop trying to make random proprietary formats, Sony!) and Nintendo's mistakes with Wii U(crapty screen, bulky and slow interface), they doubled down on their mistakes(more proprietary cartridge format and memory cards).

PSVita's library is crap, I use it almost solely to play PS1 games. But Sony 'could' come back and make a Vita 2 and do things better this time around, better than Nintendo(as popular as the Switch is, it's got alot of things it can be better, bluetooth support is a easy one).

Nintendo has great franchises, though I do like them, they're not the reason I have a Switch(retro compilations, SNES/NES channels, HD Remasters, PS1 era RPGs)

Same. Just broke out my 3DS after many years and put real time into a game: Monster Hunter Stories, which is, in fact, freakin' good.

I completely and totally get where you're comin' from, @Lunar. I still may disagree with you on the long-term success of another Sony handheld -- regardless of how innovative or powerful its specs may be -- without a more robust selection of first-party franchises and time-tested third-party support. But, to be honest, I was giving you a harder time than necessary in the hopes that it would give a little shot in the arm to the ol' RTT and boost in up and out of its post-holidays doldrums.

Maybe a little bit of controversial conversation is just what we need right now. So, shoot back and demand to know why I've suddenly become smitten with the abysmal failure that is the Neo Geo Pocket Color. What, if anything, about it could possibly be worth mentioning? wink

This is what I'm hoping to eventually end up with to play through my PS1 collection. The LCD I have on the PSOne is OK in a pinch but I really don't like having to crane my neck to read text.

For now, PS1 Classics on Vita will do.

As cute as the Neo Geo Pocket Color is, I couldn't comfortably play it at all. Waiting for that Analogue Pocket adapter.

Vita's library falls short of expectations no matter how you look at it. If you look at it as a portable extension of your PS3, they have a very nice indie and remaster lineup but not nearly enough new triple-A titles.

If you look at it for its exclusives, there just aren't enough of them. Many of those exclusives are extensions of existing franchises, which is perfectly fine, but they're often among the worst entries in those series. I heard frequent complaints about how limited Golden Abyss and Mod Nation Racers were, for example. WipEout 2048 was awesome, but the gritty visuals didn't work on the small screen.

3G could have been a revelation if its service feeds were lumped into the cost of PlayStation Plus and not soft-blocked by software limitations. Same with PlayStation TV, which could have been really amazing if any of the platform's PlayStation Mobile was equally pointless.

I think the only audience that got their money's worth out of the Vita were trophy hunters. For each of those PS3 analogues, you either got to work on your Platinum on the go, or you had effectively a second Platinum to obtain for mastering the game. I only have 4 Platinums on my profile, but one of them was for a Vita game: PlayStation All-Stars, which itself could have been amazing if its mechanics were more pick-up-and-play and less convoluted.

Although I'm not a super-fan of either of its individual franchises, I really enjoyed Etrian: Mystery Dungeon (Nintendo 3DS). Have you had a chance to play it, @Gypsy?

While I'm also really excited about the upcoming Analogue Pocket, @Lunar, I still had to pick up an original and, later, backlit-modded Neo Geo Pocket Color to satiate my appetite in the meantime. I never thought I'd be okay with losing a directional pad until I actually felt the signature clicks of that microswitch thumbstick for the first time. love

I'll be honest, @Renaissance2K; from a structural standpoint, the dock for that thing looks flimsy. I'd be worried that, unless it was inserted oh-so delicately, I'd possibly bend or snap off some tiny little piece. I wanna be able to pop that sucker in and out like a Sega Genesis cartridge and I just don't think it's gonna work like that at all. frown

With that in mind, I already drank the Kool-Aid for this gadget a looong time ago. wink

My most played games for the vita were crap that's already on PC these days, Mortal Kombat, DBZ, EDF and Super Robot Wars, crap like that. My 3DS on the other hand saw tons of use, but alot of it was wasted on crappy games like Pokemon Y and FE Awakening.

That's because Sony didn't try with it. They thought a CODBLOPS and Resistance game made in a few months by the developers behind Starcraft Ghost would be enough to sell the game to people, then turned it into an expensive PS4 controller when it wasn't.

> I think the only audience that got their money's worth out of the Vita were trophy

And weeaboos but even then Sony still found a way to crap on them with their recent censorship policies. Really, there not being a new vita is for the best, since Sony doesn't really learn from their mistakes, and i can't think of a single audience that would even want one at this point.

I can't disagree there. As long as you lower the screen size. CRT, Vita, PSP. I personally use PSOne LCD and yes the viewing angles are crap, but the graphics are sharp on a small screen.

True that, I actually bought all the Bally and Williams tables I wanted before the licenses went away... it's basically the main reason I still have my PS3. I refused to re-buy the same tables on the PS4... screw that business model.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've been hanging out on following FB group so far and they have been very helpful. My MVS monitor was missing green so I replaced a bunch of components on the chassis and then someone pointed out to me I could do a simple test to confirm if it was a gun in the tube or not (it was).

BURN SCART IN A FIRE.Got HDMI with the Mega SG and it just made me want the SNES one even more. Component when available is great due to the easy connector. Other than that I mostly just use SVideo because it easily works with what I have and looks good enough. I do want to get some RGB cables for Sat/PS1 with a DSUB connector because it would work great with stuff I already have but $$.

I'm also at the point where crap I don't play or watch is not hooked up.

Always hooked up LCD or Plasma: PS4, BD, DVD

Always hooked up HD CRT: PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, LD

Recently hooked up HD CRT: PC Engine, Saturn

Feeling cute might play later idk: Fami/NES, SNES, Genesis, Gamecube, Xbox, 360, PS3

Good enough is where I'd tab it. I tweaked the settings on mine in the service menu to disable some things I didn't want on inputs I am hooking up consoles too though. Thankfully it remembers settings for each input. Might go for a mod at some point, but it's pretty back burner.

I really do need to get another SD tube for lightgun stuff though.

Almost kills you in one hit counts? I think I need to come back to this entire game later then.

Well I was thinking small stuff but I suppose your right, almost anything can kill you in 2 hits in that game. Go with 1 hit = too early. That's safe.

Depends how much you are putting into your health as well. Everything fudges you if you aren't giving yourself more health.

Ok, here's what ya'll need to do... get the adjudicators shield (auto health regen), get the regen ring (auto health regen, stacks), get enough strength and dex to equip the dragon bone smasher, put enough into magic skills to get whatever the first weapon buff is... put all the rest into stamina and vitality, leaning towards stamina since your health regen has your back.

Run around shirtless and use whatever armor you need to in order to still fast roll.

Invade in 4:2, two hand the dragon bone smasher (the adjucator shield still regens ur health when it's on your back), and enjoy your new-found OP damage output and 'he just won't die!' power. :D

I remember when they were about to lose the license. I was hoping, begging they would show up on Switch first. I was ready to pay $200+ to get every single table. But they never were able to. I own season 1 and 2 on PS4 though. I may have to end up trying to find the pirate versions of all the pinball arcade tables, they were really good. It's a shame.

I've beat the game three times so I'm not really looking for advice lol.

All good. I came across a very well taken care of Nomad. I thought about getting the analogue Sega MG for $180 but you know me being a big Portable guy. I thought Nomad and some genesis RPGs would be a good way to get back into genesis. There are 2 piko interactive RPGs that are still available. So I bought those. Figure I won't have to worry about changing THOSE batteries. So I can test my new Nomad with those 2 RPGs. Start small, go from there.

I was going to link you to MST's Nomad Triple Bypass pre-order page, but I guess he took it down. Triple Bypass + Mega SD = Portable Sega CD.

I guess, technically, you can still play Sega CD games without it, but there won't be CD or FMV audio.

I googled Turbo Charger famiclone and your Twitter account was the first result. If you don't know what's on them, no one does.

Ha! :D

To be honest I'm kind of afraid of buying one. The butt-holes at customs are going to see it and go "that's illegal!" or try to charge me tons of money for something that's not even worth the $15 price tag. :)

I might try to get one if I do end up getting extra cash this month, just for funsies.

I checked it so it's a replacement chip for the nomad that what, allows you to play sega CD games? How? I must say I'm interested, but confused. The Mega SG is an FPGa cart right? So essentially I would have to load roms into it, and then play it on the nomad. But then I would save the games onto the cart itself right? I guess I could buy Sega CD games for my shelf and then play Sega CD games on the Nomad. Would be pretty cool for sure. Thanks for sharing.

The Triple Bypass is a mod is to allow CD audio in the Nomad(so it seems to me from Ren2K's context)

The real meat and sauce will be the Mega SD.

Mega SG + Mega SD:

For more info on Mega SD, check out TerraOnion

Basically, Mega SD allows any Genesis to play Sega CD roms. It goes through the cartridge slot and not the expansion port.

It's definitely pretty cool. And something I might get eventually. Since I do want to play some sega CD games but wasn't sure what route I wanted to go.

Pretty much.

Step 1. Buy a Mega SD (now), or wait for Krikzz's successor to the Mega EverDrive (later).
Step 2. Play Sega CDs on your Nomad without sound.
Step 3 (optional). Decide that's lame, and do the "easy mode" mod (CD/FMV audio at lower quality) or get a Triple Bypass installed.

I bought a new monitor(nothing fancy, just a cheap 1080p 28" panel) to replace a 32" Samsung 1080p TV, for my main gaming use.

Man, I don't know if its the smaller size, or this particular monitor is better with OSSC, PS1 looks phenomenal!

I have a PVM with RGB PS1 and the whole deal, it's as good as the PS1 will look. But it's still mostly early 3D.
