It'd be rough to go to the end of this year, especially considering so many people haven't gotten their hands on them yet, but there's a looooot of game in this system, thought it'd be fun to track everyone's progress. My system should be in next week, I'll probably start off with Super Mario World for a full 100% including the weird world I forgot how to switch to, where the maps turn brown and the enemies change.

I'll at least be keeping track of my own progress, but post if you'd like to join in. Post up an end screen if you feel like it when you finish something off.

Hmm...I might have to get in on this. There are a few games on the Classic that I've never played/beaten, and most of the games I HAVE played, I'd love to play again. It will have to wait until after Odyssey though, my game time is booked until then.

The entire world changes to that AFTER you get 100%, and you can't change it back.

That sucks. frown Keep your eyes open on the site, may find someone with an extra or an extra-extra. If a deal I'm working on for a Euro model goes through, I'd be happy to sell off the SNES. Though that does mean I'd have to basically double-clear Mario World twice. Eh, worth it.

Interesting thread. Lots of RPGs on it. It should be fun. You need a table to track progress like the 2017 console thread. I would probably get in on that.

For Mario Kart 64, I wouldn't have ever considered just beating all cups on 50cc to be "beating the game". 50/100cc are easy beginner modes just to get you ready for the real thing on 150cc.

I don't remember what it entailed, but back in the day (before internet) the benchmark was always a credit roll. Nobody denied you beat Super Metroid because you didn't get the "best ending", just like no one considered you didn't beat Street Fighter II if you beat it on level one. Anything else is a modern POV.

You're in luck, it's not on the system! Like, half the games start with the word "Super"!

Pretty much the only free game clear on this system's Street Fighter II Turbo, the rest are going to take some doing.

Oddly, as it turns out, instead of using SFC ROM files (the NES Classic used NES rom files) they're using Wii Virtual Console rips. It works, but it does open the system to some interesting potential: possible alternative Wii software being side-loaded? Could be neat. Also not yet set in stone, they're still busy at work trying to figure out what can be done, since dumping and loading the system image is one thing but running your own code on it's something else at the moment.

Does that mean there is some custom OS on it that runs ROMS and Wii files too?

Yeah kind of. I never really played it much back in the day but I did witness my older cousin beat it without dying and without using any bombs. I wanted to emulate that this time around and managed to beat it without using any bombs but I did end up dying once or twice. Still a surprisingly fun game but the graphics made it kind of difficult to tell how far the enemies were away from you so aiming was really hard in 3rd person mode. There were also parts in the last level where you would see enemy fire before you would see the enemy which kind of sucked.

Next is Secret of Mana, I've already sunk an hour into the game.

I played Super Mario World for an hour yesterday and made great progress -- went to save my game in a save state and accidentally reloaded the old save, erasing an hour's worth of gameplay. :(

I'm a bit confused by the best way to save games. Are you forced to hit reset on the console and save as a save state every time? Or will it save in-game if I just shut off the console and come back to it? I'll have to experiment again tonight.
dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally

I think the game will do an in-game save for the ones that have that option. The save states are when when you're between save points and you want to do a quick save. I haven't played around with it much but it seems to be the way they've worked for me so far.

Save states are good, but if you just treat it like a regular SNES game once you save you can quit out and just start it "fresh" and load. I only use save states when I'm between save points, or when cheating RNG-based bonus challenges.

I'm pretty close to finishing Super Mario RPG, about to head into the factory once I get past that dumb fudging clock boss. Turn 5 everyone goes to sleep and the boss just takes 9 turns and wins. Fun fight! Beat it before, not sure what I'm missing this time around.

It was only the last three opponents that gave me a lot of trouble, made even worse because the Y button (left punch) kept cutting out intermittently. A couple times I was close to beating the final boss and it would stop responding and I'd get tagged by a super move. SO frustrating. I've been playing Super Mario RPG, and just about every fight has button press confirmations that are time sensitive, and I'm pretty sure every timed hit I've missed so far has been because I'm bad at pressing buttons. Kinda worrying if other people are having issues though. We'll see I guess...

I will note that, just with the original SNES and controllers, I do sometimes have issues registering start/select inputs. Worst I've seen so far though.

I will say, the latency on the SNESC and the NESC, input-wise, seems about the same or slightly better on SNESC; the NESC's biggest problem for me was audio latency, which was noticeable, and since so many of these games have audio cues as to whether you did something or not, or if something's about to hit you or not (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! is a huge offender) it seemed laggier than it actually was. No audio lag on SNESC in comparison.
Colourshaper

11-Oct(#69)
The issue I was experiencing definitely wasn't input lag; I would tap the Y button repeatedly for a few seconds with no response. Then all of a sudden it would work again for a bit, then cut out again (usually for 5-10 seconds). Odd that it's only been on Super Punch-Out, and on both controllers -- could be a programming issue with the SNES Mini itself?

No other games, huh. I mean, it could be a problem with the emulation. If you can confirm it's absolutely only with Punch-out, there may be an issue with the emulator or the rom they use. It'd be interesting to force it to use an external emulator and/or another rom of the game to see if the problem persists. Sounds like we've had at least one person clear it without any problems.

Once she got the Rez, this was pretty much my party through most of the game. I broke it for a bit at the alarm clock guy because the party would generally wipe during the first AOE status effect attack he does and I wanted to pour on some more damage across the board. Soon as that was done, it was back to Geno and Peach.

I'm pretty excited to play Super Mario RPG again. Haven't played it since like 96 or 97.

It's pretty fun! I was underlevelled enough that a few fights were annoying but still fun.

My Son and I finished Kirby Super Star last night. I think we will move on to Super Mario World next.

I don't think you'll need to wait long (assuming you are actively looking, not just waiting on online notifications), I saw 8 sitting at a Target late this morning. Sorry, I don't have the funds or means to help out in your quest.
