sweet great idea

im currently playing fist of the north star lost paradise, but not exactly a jrpg.

granblue fantasy re:link is the one im most looking forward to right now, platinum is working on it as well so the combat is sure to be great. its TBD on the date but there was recently a big reveal and it looks amazing.

edge of eternity is another I have my eye on, its a throwback to a more FF6/FF7 style combat but on a hex grid system, its early access on steam, I have it but haven't started it yet.

hoping for localization announcements for trails of cold steel 3 and 4 soon as well, and will never give up hope for crossbell, thought it may never happen.

still holding out for a US release of Persona Q2

other upcoming stuff i'l be keeping an eye on that haven't been mentioned yet are

Nelke and the Legendary Alchemist - a mash up game with characters from lots of Atelier games and mana khemia etc.
Atelier Lulua - The Scion of Arland - a continuation of the Arland world starring Rorona's (iirc) daughter
Dragon Star Varnir
Arc of Alchemist
Ys 9 Monstrum Nox (may localize to Monster of Nox)
Code Vein
Death End re;Quest
Etrian Odyssey Nexus
Whatever Persona 5R is

nights of azure 1 is pretty cheap now, its not on switch but if you have a ps4 its worth checking out if you're gonna play the second one or at least check out some plot summaries or youtube vids as 2 is a sequel

ya same they have definitely won me over after Nier Automata so I'm interested in anything they're doing, I just hope they aren't spreading themselves too thin.

Right now I'm still messing around with Dragon Quest XI. Beat the game a few days ago, but I just find myself getting drawn back into that world.

My most anticipated list right now would be:

1. Granblue Fantasy
2. Kingdom Hearts 3
3. Fire Emblem
4. SMT V
5. Code Vein

My current JRPG of the generation ranking:

1. Nier Automata - 10/10
2. Persona 5 - 10/10
3. Dragon Quest XI - 9.5/10
4. Final Fantasy XV - 9.25/10
5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 9.25/10

Ooh! A shopping list!

Seriously, I've been addicted to JRPGs because of the old Nintendo Power promotion for Dragon Warrior. I don't have as much time to play as I'd like, but I'm currently in the middle of:

Dragon Quest XI- I could beat this anytime, I'm mostly doing stupid little stuff to work toward the platinum. (The Wheel of Harma under 40 for that last recipe book is going to be a problem...) But I really want to say I've beaten this game to the fullest.
Octopath Traveler- This is mostly my overnights at work game. I'm finishing up the last chapter 2 right now. I've also learned that danger levels are full of crap. I shouldn't have to worry with the lowest level of 30, going into a danger level 30, and seeing an enemy do about 2000 damage to everyone in my party.

Anyone remember GameFan magazine back in the day? That's one of my fondest memories of gaming. Seeing nice concise articles with a few big pictures to give you an example of what the game will look like. Of jRPGs out in Japan and possibly coming soon to the US. I remember seeing Suikoden in GameFan before it came out, and really looking forward to it. It was one of the games I actually beat because it was so good.

I am trying to finish FOTNS LP this weekend so I'll be ready for Ace Combat 7 day one... ive been waiting so long for it, ToV will have to wait, but its hard to tell anyone not to play TX... that's so tough. you wont want to put TX down though once its really going.

Suikoden blew my mind when I played it. The huge battles, Characters dying in battle, the one on one boss fights, building a base. God, it was so good.

FF6 and CT would both make my top 15 or so, but P5, FF7 and FFX are a pretty untouchable all time trinity for me at the top then I can rank everything else.

I wish konami would sell suikoden (and all their stuff actually) to a good company who would do them justice. Suikoden 5 is so amazing, it gets overlooked because everyone loves 2, but imagine what a game of that caliber could be like now

just one per person? or top 3? or ?

if just one, DQ11 for me

also blue reflection should be 5/10 in the ratings, don't want to mislead anyone into that snoozefest. 5 maybe generous

I think nominees for 2018 would be:

Octopath Traveler
Dragon Quest XI
Ni no Kuni 2
Valkyria Chronicles
Pokemon Let's Go

Am I missing any?

EDIT: And yeah. DQ11 would be my JRPG of the year for sure.

You can nominee as many as you want and we can wait a couple days for everyone to get a chance. Once done I will make a straw poll to choose a winner. You did not have to finish a game to nominate or vote for it.

Octopath is so good. And yeah the danger levels, lol. You can fight well above what is expected by mastering the combat system though.

I really need to play DQ11 soon... But it's so long.

Nearing the end of VC4, chapter 17 now. I'll definitely be getting the true ending.

I hear a lot of people say VC4 is really good. Should I play it? (I'm kinda hoping for a bit of a price drop first).

Ah that's the kicker, never played the first. But played the 2nd on PSP a bit and thought it was ok.

I put 1 and 4 well above 2/3. Though admittedly I played 3 in Japanese and had to rely on a friend for interpretation of the story.

I noticed that. I went exploring into a DL 45, and while tough, I did a few fights there enroute to the town. Those fights were still easier than that one I referenced in DL 30. And my Alfyn just got to level 43 (he was my starter), and Therion to 42. (I hate finding those purple chests without having him. Plus, stealing...)

And yes, you need to play DQ11. Length be damned. Though to be fair, I can only think of 6 games that I played and got the game clock over 100 hours, 4 of which are DQ games...

Yeah, I've played VC2 and it doesn't really belong in the same conversation as 1 and 4. 2 is fine, but I played it for about 10 hours and didn't bother going back to it.

VC1 has held up really well and it's only $15 on the Switch. Definitely worth checking out at that price.

Yeah, I found it hard to take Therion out of my party because of those damn purple chests! I always kept him in when I knew I was going into a dungeon.

Ya vc1 and 4 are amazing. They take place pretty concurrently story wise as well.

And ya for an RPG person dq11 is so necessary.

H'aanit and therion never left the party ever. H'aanit was my main character and therion too necessary for stealing and chests..and he's also pretty beast with his double attacks, so he and H'aanit just wrecked ass.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - 8.75/10

So I bought Sega Genesis Classics on switch because stock is trimming down and I'm not sure if they are gonna print more. Actually glad I got it. Because the mode where you see the curved TV and it has scanlines in it is pretty fun! I'll def be playing Phantasy Star IV again on the switch! Plus it does have a few other genesis RPGs I never beat.

Would recommend.

That looks really nice. The copy of Tokyo Xanadu I have isn't even mine. It's a friend's and I've been holding it hostage for months and just haven't had a chance to start playing it yet. Maybe I'll give back his copy and pick this collector's edition up. How's the quality of that statue?

Right on, I notice you rep CSH on your sig, love that game. The cut scenes, music, and gameplay just make me so nostalgic, they truly nailed it with that game.
