I played it for a bit on iOS. The world seems impressive (and familiar) but mobile version doesn't support controllers. So probably going to wait for the Switch version to play more.

Played for like 35 mins or so. Very impressive for a FTP game, so far. The hiccups do bother me though.

Nearing the end of Ys VIII, probably won't bother with the "best" ending but I'll look it up once I beat it.

I finished up getting 100% on Paper Mario Origami King last week. It was the first Paper Mario I put more than a couple minutes into. I liked it overall, but didn't like that you don't level up or really get anything from the battles. Since the battles weren't beneficial in any way I found myself wanting to avoid them whenever possible. I also wasn't a fan on the "line things up" mechanic. The story was OK, but felt really forced at times. I liked how you got a different companion to travel with, but kinda wish you could also control them during battle. I'm happy I played it, but doubt I'd really ever want to play it again.

I finished Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu earlier this year. Like Paper Mario, it was the first time I put any effort into playing a Pokemon game. I thought it was actually pretty fun, however it wasn't very challenging. With the exception of the very end and maybe some of the leaders the game was boring from a battle perspective. I felt like you were forced to use the same Pokemon pretty much the entire game as it takes forever to level them. So any time I'd try out some new Pokemon I'd basically be forced to finish the battle with Pikachu as the rest get 1 shot. The story was good enough to keep me playing to the end and I actually picked up a few more Pokemon games to play.

I started the year beating Dark Souls Remastered. It was just as good as I remembered. However it seems they either changed matchmaking or the game is just plain dead. With little to no multiplayer I didn't put a ton of time into it after I got the platinum.

I've been trying to clean up any unfinished games on my account before PS5, so I played through a couple games I had only put a few hours into. I finished off several of the hard ones like LBP2, but these are the only RPGs.

3 years ago I started Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. Put allot of time into it, but had a few things come up and I never got back to it. I decided to start a new game and get platinum.

8 years ago I played about an hour of Disgaea 4. This year I went back and got the platinum. After beating 3 last year I had high hopes. I didn't like the story or characters in 4. Also the RNG in this game when going for platinum was beyond ridiculous.

I think that's the only ones I beat this year.

I love this game. So much. It is so good. I'm so bummed we haven't gotten a second game. That MMO they did was terrible.

I kinda want to play through 1, 2 and 5 now. But as a completionist I'll have to see how bad the trophies are. I know these games are a grind, which I actually like. Its when they put in so much RNG that gets me frustrated.

Yeah, this game caught me by surprise. It turned out to be really, really good. I played through it 4 times as different vocations. I was about 3/4 through the story when I stopped the first time. I'm glad I restarted as the other vocations were much more fun. The only annoying part was the BBI RNG when looking for rings/weapons.

@Bleed_DukeBlue i noticed you just finished fairy tail... what did you think of it?

I've actually never watched the anime before (or any anime actually), and I was just approaching this game as a fan of turn-based RPGs, so my comments come from that perspective. Overall, it was pretty good. The attack animations are really flashy and impressive (and, helpfully, if you're trying to hurry up and grind out some levels, they can be turned off). The main story is not outstanding or anything, but it's reasonably entertaining. I didn't like all of the characters, but there were several that I did, and 16 are playable without any DLC. The fighting system is cool and uses grid-based attacks (but you don't actually move on the grid). I like that you can see all of the enemies on the map and choose to walk into them or around them. There is some light crafting of items that impact your stats and add things like fear or elemental damage.

In terms of cons, there is some weird kinda juvenile stuff in some parts (like a side quest where you get a picture altered so a character doesn't feel as inadequate about her chest size). Also, it's really easy (which could be a pro or a con depending on what you want), and the platinum requires a bunch of repetitive quests to kill various enemies over and over across a handful of maps. I put about 65 hours into the game.

In general, I would recommend the main story but finishing up the platinum wasn't as fun (although it wasn't difficult). I'd give the game something like a 7/10.

I'm obsessed with this game and most of my gaming time has been dedicated to it. I don't really have any strong opinions about gatcha. I'm at a place financially where I can afford to waste money on those elements. However, the game can be played fully without spending a dime.

Seems a little too good to be true though. I expect a paywall to show up for the next update when they open more of the world.

Otherwise, this game is outstanding.

PS: Runs terrible on old PS4's it made mine PS4 perform so bad I literally got up drove to the store and bought another one. If you have a PC I think thats the way to go.

nice... this is one more step in getting a crossbell localization here. (there are some very good translations available though already, but an official would be cool) falcom has said they would like get their whole trails catalog playable on modern stuff. NISA sucks SO much though, they would somehow ruin it

an official localization would be better than nothing for sure, but that group thats doing the translation patch for the pc version is incredible, its better than nisa could ever do from what ive seen, so can still play that even if they do an official nisa one, but more trails localized is good just increases the chances they can continue that series and keep making content in that world

I owned all three PS3 versions at one point, and attempted this. But burned myself out on the stupid weapon upgrades. I'll get back to it at some point. I'm so glad they changed up the trophies for this new version. No weapon upgrades. They removed those and added new ones for killing bosses in specific ways. So now the most time consuming one will be getting all rings.

I'm going to play it on one x at some point. But when it's on sale. perhaps $30 on black friday we'll see. It's funny, I have no reservations about buying day one prices for switch but not PS4, xbox . Probably because Nintendo games don't drop as much as mainstream next gen console releases.

They changed the trophies? Thats actually kinda disappointing. I guess I like the grind. Nothing about the weapon upgrades is that bad with the exception of Pure Blade-stone. NA took about 10 hours of farming, about 4 on JP and 30 minutes on EU. Pure Moonlight and Pure Dark Moonlight were both kinda annoying, but not more than an hour each. Most the others you can avoid farming by meeting certain requirements, like Pure Greystone, Faithstone, Clear, etc.

Did they remove world/character tendency as well? If so then not even getting all rings will be challenging. Not that it ever was, but playing offline you had to be real careful or else you could need to play a few more cycles to get CT back to pure white for the friend ring. The Asian version has a glitch where dying in soul form will still lower world tenancy. This added several hours to that play through for me. I didn't think to update it since servers are offline. But there is a patch to fix it.

I also hope they didn't mess with the weapons/magic/miracles. I thought I read somewhere this company just gives games a visual overhaul and the game play stayed the same.

I actually got plat on this game 6 times. I started a new tag that I'll keep at 100% completion. I just hated that I had games impossible to finish on my old tag. I think I got 9 or 10 plats so far. Might double up on all the souls games next.

Hm, I might have to resort to that but I'd much rather get it for Switch if I can. I might even dish out the extra 20 for the collector's edition since that's still available, just thought it was super odd that I can't find the standard anywhere.

Yeah. Seems pointless for em on Steam then. A new translation of any kind is bound to take forever with any small team.

So, 13 Sentinels. I hear it's good but that battle system looks weird. Anyone here play it?

It is my game of the year. It is so good. The battle system is fine. The story is amazing.

It's Vanillaware's best game imo. Their previous best game (Grimgrimoire) was also tower defense, which I find interesting.

Bought Ni No Kuni 2 Digital Deluxe for $12.xx. I wouldve rather bought it digital but cant beat that price which includes the Season Pass.

This and Dragon Quest (the last one) are the best looking JRPGs Ive seen (besides FF). Also have the first one remastered, which I never beat back on PS3. I dont know which to play first.

My plan is to start Yakuza Like a Dragon tomorrow on XSX. Finished Demon's Souls a few days back and have just a little to finish up on 13 Sentinels.

I mentioned this in the Switch thread but Saga Frontier is getting a remaster next year:

I liked the second one, so looking forward to this.

People can not play it all over again! And I actually like the Saga games, but it seems like very few people actually played them.

I remember hating them hardcorde cause they never gave any direction as to where to go or what to do.

SaGA Frontier had the misfortune of coming right after FF7, so alot of people back then i think were thinking this is the next big thing from squaresoft. I remember being disapointed at the time somewhat myself. With Square's back catalog im not sure this is what id have spent my time remastering, seems like the community has been crying alot harder for so many other things. not that excited about this really.

@JD lol i do love pirates and rpgs, i have been waiting many years for the next sid meier's pirates game that 2k is probably never going to let them make. maybe skull and crossbones will release someday and be poplular and they'll say hey Sid team make us another one of those pirate games but probably never happen

That's cool that it's finally coming out. But I even canceled my age of calamity order because I got a PS five and so many amazing PS4 games backlog now. On top of the few switch and Xbox one games I still want to play. So I will likely skip.
