new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

@DefaultGen Snatcher is a VN. Much better than Ghost Squad. I'll need to play House of the Dead 2 again, obviously it's very good.

Ghost Squad is the crap. I want to rescue every $1.99 Wii copy from bargain bin hell and start giving them away in my trades. I also love Let's Go Jungle and Deadstorm Pirates. I haven't played EG though, or else I'd be finding a way to knock it for being a 3D PS1 game.

Obscure rare crap of the day:

ESPN Golf: Lower Your Score with Tom Kite - Mental Messages. This is a mail-away only 3DO golf instructional video you could get if you registered your 3DO copy of ESPN Golf: Lower Your Score with Tom Kite - Shot Making. When I'm done collecting Game Boy and Sega CD I might move on to combing old console libraries for the most obscure fudging nonsense and seeing what I can get for cheap that no one's ever heard of. That could be fun.

To be clear that's one of only 2 photos I could even find of the game, not my copy. I went looking for it while looking over 3DO games and thinking "What the hell is Mental Messages? Does this game exist?". There isn't even a record of one selling on Ebay.

But I totally want one now. $3.50 bounty for it.

In the thread the guy says he sold one for $800 in 2012. So in 2017 old game dollars that's between $112,000 and $174,000 by my calculations.

Yeah I actually got to that point in the thread and promptly lol'd. I actually kinda do want an older tower anyway, but it's a low want and I wouldn't pay eBay prices.

It wouldn't be terribly expensive to piece it together yourself, the real pain in the ass will be getting components that aren't blown out since most people selling stuff like CPU/Memory likely don't have hardware or patience to test it out.

And of course you'll want to source a VGA CRT yourself, since any shipping related to those is going to be fudging disgusting and I refuse to use Windows 3.1 on an LCD (I'm assuming it was 3.1 and not 95, it's been so long I can't really tell the difference frankly). I don't even know if LCDs go down to 320x200, lol, but the card's probably a simple PCI slot, and the cable going from the drive to the card's probably regular IDE.

I would assume minimum specs for that would be i486 SX-33 with 4 megs of RAM (might be overkill honestly, depending on how much hardware's on-board). Video card's anyone's guess frankly, most SVGA cards I got back in that day were super generic. It's possible the 3DO Blaster has its own GPU built-in, but back in those days you'd probably have to do a VGA patch from your video card into the 3DO Blaster if that were the case, and after two VGA slots I don't think there'd be space for the 3DO controller if it's using anything other than PS/2 so that's all 100% guessing.

Retro Thread Pilfers & Scoops Program laughing out loud
Trying to promote retro and borrowing a bit from the steals thread, I want to try a mini-steals style multi-user trade.
In case you are not familiar with the steals thread, here is how it works:

Offer up an item with value more than $10, shipping is paid for by the person offering. So essentially the game is free to anyone who is interested. But before you can lock in the scoop, you have to offer up a "pilfer" of your own worth $10 or more in value.
- 24 hours to try to get someone to take your item. If no one takes it after 24 hours, someone else can have a chance. Feel free to change it up before your time expires.
- No other limitations other than you need to be at least Bronze Star to participate. Regular GameTZ trade rules apply.
- While there is no upper limit, but for a general guideline, I would say $20-$30 should be the upper limit.
- No PayPal needs to be involved. e-Currency is OK.
- Trying not to put more limits than needed, when crap happens, we will try to work it out.

Demolition Racer No Exit

If you like that type of game, you will love this. I also really liked Destruction Derby 1/2 on PS1. Demolition Racer was also released on PS1 and PC, I owned them all. The only thing I liked on the PS1 version is when you bent/blew out a tire the controller would vibrate, it does not on PC/DC. It looks the best on PC, but DC version added some stuff.

I didn't care for Twisted Metal(s) on the PS1. However I loved Twisted Metal Black on PS2, its hard to play it now, but it was fantastic back in its day. My favorite is the PS3 Twisted Metal, just wish it have more characters/stories like Black did.

Beat this tonight. Yea, I skipped through most of the cutscenes since it's in Japanese.
Might have to play Last Alert also to enjoy the bad voice acting.
Also, the last boss is pretty much an exact rip off of Terminator.

I played a lot of Twisted Metal Black as well, back in ms/hs. Never played the game by myself though and haven't played any in the series since then.

Supposedly 1MB too, but that's spotty support.

Important PSA: If you get this cart @Dashey, just leave it in your Saturn. It's a great investment for Saturn ownership but it's very easy to warp the connection on the Saturn to the point where it won't work anymore with repeated insertion and removal (ehehehe). This has happened to a few people that I know (just one irl, mostly online).

Solid price on Lords but yeah in addition to what @Missile mentioned it's possible to get a Japanese copy for $100 or less with patience (and cd games are not region locked + it's a shooter) so that will also be a detriment to selling it here.

Well I guess I delved into boxed PC game collecting. I'm not gonna buy too many, just starting with some of my favorite fully voiced point n clicks. Started with my all time favorite.

Nobody wants to buy those power ups in Japanese lol.

Sigh yes, I already sold/traded Winds(to you lol) but kept the US copy. I also got rid of Sega CD Lords for $180 a while back.

I'd love a Space Quest boxed collection but I can't justify spending that much money on media that I can't use and probably doesn't work anyways. I do have a small shelf dedicated to Blizzard games, since in a queer way I owe them my current positive employment situation.

They ditched that kind of stuff as the CD media rise was approaching. LSL6 has none of that, and a very easy to use point n click (touch, look, talk, etc. . ) style interface. I highly rec trying this game, available cheaply at gog sales. It has an incredible narrator (back and forth banter between he and larry) and just over the top stupid funny. Plus I really love the elevator music style relaxing atmosphere of staying at a luxury resort.

Yeah that was a great trade but like @Lunar said tame on value compared to some of our past trades. Now I need to grab PCE Cotton again and then I'm good. The Dreamcast one can eat crap and the MD one well, that's what EDs are for...

Absolutely untouchable is hard to say, because I'd sell just about anything in the bizarre circumstance that someone wanted to overpay. Not a game but some of the video processors I have come up sparsely enough that I wouldn't want to sell them because I couldn't just buy a replacement and I use them daily generally.

If you consider the fact that the overpay/overtrade situation isn't very likely to happen, large chunks of my collection are NFT.

My favourite consoles are PCE, Saturn and Dreamcast. Oddly enough, systems with rich shooter libraries (all) and smoother running fighter ports (SS/DC). I know the PS2 ended up getting a lot of the fighters that DC did but they were much more easily accessible for me on DC with the JP imports being dirt cheap bitd and it being much easier to run Japanese Dreamcast games than Japanese PS2 games.

Like 10+ years ago, my answer would have been PS2 as my top console. It plays PS1 games too and just look at all those JRPGs! I still keep a lot of PS2s around though, because dat laser.

Wheels617 wrote:

You can 100% force your way through it. I did. Though you will have to be better at the game than you normally would have to be, because you will have to back track a lot lol.

My NES and pinball stuff would be the last to go. I'd start selling electronics, other collectibles, books, whatever I could get my hands on before I got rid of just about anything from my collection though. I have too much sunk cost in hours of my life tied up in hunting down games and restoring pins. My No Mercy 1.1 cost me like $13 and a year of my life. I don't know how many dollars it would take for me to start the process of looking for one over again. More than $14.
