Please tell me you're joking about more beat em ups, ...... ?!?

Don't encourage him in this direction, we need more strategy RPGs and/or cutesy farming games or cutesy platformers OR Mortal Kombat 2 or heart breakingly difficult action platformers with tight controls.

Lol just no more beat em ups. Please. Unless the Ninja Gaiden games on of Xbox can somehow count as beat em ups. I could get into that.

SRPGs are never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever going to make for a good game of the month. It's as simple as that. You like them, you play them. Also Harvest Moon is a hilariously bad idea since there's no real end goal, good as the game is. The point is to beat the game, and not have to take 20 hours to do it.

Calm down. Beat em ups are mediocre at best. They may be the absolute worst choices for games of the month because they are so monotonous and boring. The point of game of the month is not just to "beat it" its to share something with other people who are having the same experience and bring people together ...... kind of.

At least that's what my understanding of playing together is.

I get why you might think certain games are terrible choices. But I was under the impression you have a hard time passing many games that weren't so easy they aren't even an accomplishment to pass. Sure some people use the excuse I don't have time for "so and so" game. But you have time to play a game that isn't fun just to say you did it? Shining Force does take a while. Harvest moon is just fun. Golden axe is okay but it's the main reason I didn't pick astyanax. It'll take me a little bit but I will get an original copy of astyanax this month. I had no way to play the games the last two months so I didn't get to participate.

The way I look at it playing "let's play together" is a choice to spend that time (or not) playing the game of the month you may happen to like. Any amount of time you play any of these games is time you could be spending doing something else. Stop with the bs excuses.

I also agree I don't understand why they always have to be short games. Only like 2 people are beating the game anyway so what difference does it make which game is played?

I said nothing about beat-em-ups.

I think my main complaint about SPRGs is that it's too niche. If we want more people playing them, shouldn't we pick genres that are more accessible? I don't love beat em ups either, but there are plenty of other genres that are easier to pick up than SPRGs.

I haven't beaten a lot of the games, mostly because I'm just bad, but I've enjoyed most of them and it's gotten me to play games I never would have otherwise (Galactic Attack was especially fun, coming from someone who hasn't played tons of shmups).

I also agree with process with which we pick games needs to be improved, but I have no idea how to go about that. Finding games that are easier to come by or emulate is probably a good idea, which makes the TG-16 and Saturn pick a bit dubious admittedly.

Exactly, most of the people in RTT have a fondness for RPGs and those may even be their favorite games.

We can play other types of games if we choose an RPG for one month and everybody hates it. (Which they won't) But I think playing just one or two types of games excludes people who would otherwise decide to join in more often.

Not gonna lie, I love beat em ups. How awesome would it be for Turtles in Time or Hyperstone Heist for GOTM, I think people could dig that.

We want more people trying the games not less.

RPGs are a horrible idea. I've got other games I want to play and things to do. I'm even in other game of the month things. I don't want anything over 10 hours. Preferably 6 or less.

Alot of the candidates are admittedly what I'd like to play.

@DefaultGen is working on a more democratic process in which I believe everyone will get a vote in during the preliminary round.

As an outsider who has interest in joining in on game of the month but haven't yet..

You need to pick affordable games on commonly owned systems that can be beaten in a relatively short amount of time. Beat em' ups fit this bill. RPGs do not.

Other genres that could work:

SHMUPs
Fighting games (beat it with <x> or more characters and post who you beat it with)
Car combat
Most platformers
<Basically any arcade style game>

If you want to do RPGs you should allow long time periods... e.g. have a game of the month still that's follows my recommendations above, and then a longer term (3-6 month) game like an RPG. Speaking for myself, I am sufficiently busy in life that I couldn't commit to beating most RPGs in a single month.

Oh My!

But I can't say I'm shocked. Nes is the most underrated system in the RTT by far. Gameplay is far more important than graphics when choosing one or the other.

Except now you DO want to play Nes games, welcome to the fold 😉

I feel like even with our games that we've chosen too many aside from Ninja Gaiden have been talked badly about. Almost everybody said something negative about Castlevania 1. And compared to most other games it is better than them.

Monster in my Pocket was also doged about and I honestly don't know why, I almost didn't play it thinking people were being totally honest. It's a little plain especially the first couple of levels and it's a fairly straightforward platform game. If this had fancy ass graphics and a different type of storyline people wouldn't have said anything bad about it. It's a fun short little game with a couple of cool boss fights.

I feel like too many people give props to games on systems with bad gameplay but decent graphics. I'm guilty myself with the Resident Evil games. I can't help that I just love that world. The game is serviceable but without those graphics and storyline I would never play it.

It's likely because Rondo, SCIV, SOTN and Aria are the best titles in the franchise.

How is it that you can play through Castlevania 1 and Sotn and say that the random easy meandering of Sotn is great and the original is not?

Don't get me wrong Sotn and Super Castlevania 4 are better than most other games simply because they are still Castlevania and each is still at least a 7.5 out of 10 but when only compared to other Castlevania games? They are right there with Simons Quest if they are even that good.

Because I think they are better. Much better. Imo Castlevania doesn't get fun until Rondo and SCIV. I've played through at least 3 different versions of CV1. They were all pretty rough.

CVIII is a damn masterpiece. I mean, I'm a basic SOTN and CV4 dog, but game designers should study CVIII to make their crapty indie games suck less.

Castlevania 1 being better than SOTN ? I have a lot of opinions in gaming that I know im part of a minority opinion, for instance I don't like most Zelda and resident evil games, or survival horror, but I know im in the minority and don't insist Zelda is bad, only that its not my style.

I thought ninja gaiden 3 was just the right amount of difficulty. The second was frustrating for me.

I am a castlevania fanboy myself, but the first one is my favorite, not because it is better, just because I played the heck out of it back in the day.

Snatcher is great. I held out on it for the longest time and basically immediately realized the error of my ways within minutes.

Not a bad haul for my first two days thrfting. Didn't even think stuff like this was still out there, let alone all sitting around on 50% off day. All in with the 50% off I think everything cost me $50. Not like the sickest deal but enough to get me started.

US version has continues.

The Japanese version is so easy compared to the US, I had no idea there is a password system.

I was going to test the cart before shipping to Gypsy, ended up beating it.

Its sound cloud I think. We cant go over 3 hours of airtime.

Does Johnny pay like the Super Pro version that's like $20 a month?

DefaultGen: We should use Internet Archive. Unlimited free, good ideology behind it.
Lunar: NO, SOUNDCLOUD LOOKS GOOD.

The episode is still there, just can't be accessed since we are using basic.

Hey, not too late to switch right?
