new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

ok so i was partially on the right track, i like it. so since i was leaning towards nominating policenauts as well, since its already in there should i just put in something else? if so I'll put in Maniac Mansion for NES, though i guess playing on pc would be alright also.

Yes, Fighters History Dynamite.

There's a small chance it'll be in there, because G-Mode sells the game on consoles via Hamster's Arcade Archives: http://www.hamster.co.jp/american_hamster/arcadear...

It's all up to whether or not SNK thinks it's a good idea to include it.

You clearly misunderstood what I posted ZERO games are "worth" $8000.00 dollars no matter what some people choose to spend $8000.00 dollars on is irregardless. Someone buying it for that amount only means it was sold for that amount not that its actually worth $8000.00.

Just because someone chooses to wipe their bottoms with money doesn't mean that $8000.00 dollars is basically worthless, it just means it's worthless to them because they clearly have more money than they need. Even if I won the lottery tomorrow you're not going to see me spending that much on a cartridge game or disc game. An actual arcade cabinet maybe, but there is no need to buy something for $8000.00 for your collection. Do you know how many people are literally starving in America? Neither do I but even one person is one too many and I know it has to be more than just one person.

While I agree with the sentiment, if I had the money and saw a sealed copy of Stadium Events for that price, I'd jump on it! I don't think it's worth that, but the market will pay me more for it...

Crunching more numbers, I think on a good day, he might be able to net $100K for it. And that's a good day with the right buyer. (I'm dubious of that NWC eBay link- while it says sold, did it actually get paid?)

Yeah no Stadium Events and no NWC.

Last game was George Foreman's KO Boxing. Long story.

I love Nes and retro don't get me wrong and I understand the market will pay you back for that game somehow but it's worth no more than gold actually is. Which in essence is a weird yellow metal rock. I had some sealed games that I could have kept but am glad I didn't. I can't play them and they just sit there.

If you or I ever happened upon a cheap stadium events it's worth more to get rid of asap than it is to hold onto. What if there was a natural disaster and that game got crushed or wet or even melted? You can't play it without devaluing it. 100 or 200 dollar game sure no problem but unless it's my favorite game ever it's just going to weigh me down if it's even $1000.00. Like I would seriously want a cib copy of Snes Harvest Moon but I would like to be in a better place mentally and financially before investing in a copy. Or owning an original Arcade game of Mortal Kombat 2. That would be really cool.

If you can get back your investment it's fine but at those prices it's never worth keeping unless you're a millionaire ...... actually make that a multimillionaire/billionaire because you have to want for nothing to keep a $100,000.00 Nes game for your collection.

And if I'm already that well to do I may have to make sure it's okay with Mindy Kaling first because I may try to woo her lol.

But yeah when it comes to certain values I can see where @DiamondDave is coming from with the overvaluing of these games. There was a mint Mickey Mantle rookie card just sold for over 2 million I think. It's a piece of printed cardboard with some dead guys picture on it. I do not know how anyone can justify it.

I totally get your point, though. Some of the asking and selling prices for flipping video games is out of control. While I get that anything is really only worth what someone's willing to pay for it, it'd be real hard for me to justify that kind of purchase irregardless of how much money I have. wink

I would like to think it's good enough. I remember out of ALL the fighting games released after SF2 first released the only one capcom tried to sue over was Fighters History. You could have made a case for any 2d fighting games being blatant ripoffs of SF2 ...... but unlike most Neo Geo fighters this one actually played as good if not better than Street Fighter. It had similarities but it was even cooler in a lot of ways.

Idk if I would feel the same way now but that beefed up Neo Geo version of Fighters History was even better than the original version. Other than Mortal Kombat and occasionally World Heroes 2 and Fighters History there weren't any Fighters that I thought were better than Street Fighter.

I just hope they try to mix up the games they release on this if they actually do release it 😊 If they just have a bunch of Art of Fighting (one of my least favorite fighting series ever!) on there or Fatal Fury 1 without some of their cooler side scrollers and weirder arcade titles they already got my hopes up for nothing. But if they have a decent bunch of choices for everyone I could still see myself getting it. It's almost a guarantee Samurai Shodown 2 will be on there but if not it will be a huge mistake.

Well yeah but it's not like we can take any of this stuff with us, so even if you're a multimillionaire like Michael Jackson was at least he got to enjoy his Neverland ranch while he was still alive. If I had a $100,000.00 mint game I couldn't even play? That's even more mentally ill than I think I am. But if someone gave me that game to flip so I could feed the homeless with the money or something? (Or better yet fix up my Gramma's house) Maybe I could see the value then 😊

If I had that much money I'd probably build a coaster park and a large house inside the property and ride coasters all day.

If you guys look at that tarp over the NEO GEO mini it looks like it has a screen. Looks like it might be some sort of mini tabletop barcade type machine.

A cartridge full of timed versions of games that are much better without a time limit from a competition most of us barely remember.

You know what else is part of Nintendo history? Some really great games that don't cost $10,000.

I admit I've spent some serious $ on some pretty dumb stuff *cough* METAL SLADER GLORY DIRECTOR'S CUT *cough* but I've cut back since then and plan to cut back some more in the near future.

Yuh. If there's one thing 2018's taught me, it's that you don't even need a real SNES to enjoy the SNES library (Super NT's dope. Unofficial firmware has some interesting tools including dumping your own library and other things)

Wait what?!? Is this some sort of computer stuff I will never understand? How do you dump your own library? Can you somehow download your carts into this thing or is this through files on your computer? I'm almost interested in this thing now 😉

Jailbroken firmware allows you to plug your SNES cart into the Super NT and basically rip the game to SD. Haven't tried it yet because I'M A PURIST. when it comes to my fake snes

I don't think it will be a huge setup honestly, I just think it's a monitor set up with the system on a tv stand.
But then again I would "think" that mini system or not it would still have full size arcade type joysticks like the original home Neo Geo systems had.

Certain things like that should remain true to the original experience.

If you had to pick one game that it had to have if you could force them to add it, what game would you add?

For me it's Magician Lord but I haven't played it in like 25+ years since it was in the arcades what if it's terrible after all this time?!?

At least I know Samurai Shodown 2 is still fun I played it this week on my 360. Slow as ever but still fun.

I actually don't have any game in mind. I just remember many years ago in my ebay heyday I ran accross some neo geo games. They were large boxes, and one of them was a baseball game. I am interested in this system. My dream would be that it's hackable and you can just put your favorites from the entire library on it.

Oh I'm sure it'll be hackable eventually if not immediately.

Yeah I think that game is called baseball stars or something. They released a lot of games many of us never got to see after they started making so many fighting games.

I guess I'll check the gamedude pricelists to see if they even still have lists for Neo Geo systems I used to check them every once in awhile.

This store has been in business for almost 30 years if not 30 already. If they didn't have fair prices and buyback prices they wouldn't have stayed in business. But yes the market is idiotic.

I know rare things are worth more on some level but it's just not worth it to me. Maybe it's how expensive everything in California is but it just seems wrong to me that things are this out of control now.

No, maybe some day. But I have a lot of games to play. I power leveled my guys to about lvl 80 so I beat that fatso in 2 turns (one tension, one unload, dead).

i never beat them all either, darksteel is so frustrating and lucking out with rng i said why am i doing this and never went back. he can one hit you no matter your level because of a death attribute on his hits, and hes so fast. and can only be hurt by criticals, so you keep having to use yangus's 50/50 ability and hoping it hits and constantly reviving

Were you max level? I was initially unsure I wanted to play the 3DS version because of the graphical downgrade but Red and Morrie made it so much easier to power level. So did seeing enemies on the map so you could keep moving the camera until a LMS or MKS showed up. In the original you might fight 10 worthless battles to get to 1 MKS, not so any more.

It only took me about 3 or 4 hours of grinding to get from lvl 50 to lvl 80. Hero, Yangus, Morrie all have 50% critical and Red with Liquid Metal Sword can do 2damage x8. She can literally kill 2 or 3 LMS in some cases. It was fun, but I'm on to Fire Emblem Echoes and I'm already digging it 3 hours in.

i was very high level, it was on the original ps2 verison back at release so its been many years. it wasnt damage output that is the problem with darksteel, regular attacks dont hit/hurt him. he can attack you multiple times per turn with a death attribute so your hit points dont matter. i dont mind powerful post game bosses in rpgs, but darksteel dragon is just cheap and too luck based.

There's an above average chance that someone whose name rhymes with tipsy already acquired this game for her so you shouldn't also do it.

The PS1 cable is something that interests me but I'm shutting down my spending again for a bit.

I won't ..... 😍

I like when drunk people buy stuff while they're internetting 😉

I don't like it however when I'm tipsy and start E-flirting with exes and ex "friends" and homegirls it's tha worst kind of shame spiral that I occasionally find myself in.

But making impulsive drunk purchases is so much safer ..... except when I'm broke for two months after 😆

I wanted those gba cart holders before when you posted them too.

Edit: maybe interested in the Nyko perfect shot for Wii too. How well does it control? Is there a link? Would it work on House of the Dead or is it something else?

I just don't have extra cash and I've got payments. Maybe I will peruse your goods again at the beginning of May when I might still have some money. I know I've been tempted by every system you have for offer they all look perfect! I know my friend has been asking about a dreamcast and even if I couldn't afford your SegaCD bundle I'm still very tempted by that Willy Beamish, that game has fun memories for me ❤️

And the Saturn and the OG Xbox ..... all your stuff is cool.

@BleedingViolet I could probably part with a Dreamcast.

If I did I should still have some doubles so I could include a sort of starter pack of cheap games as well. Nothing amazing but fun games.

I would do some good discounts for you @bleedingviolet! The perfect shot is an accessory, it just "holds" the wiimote for shooter games. The trigger pushes the wii trigger. It works just fine.

It depends on if we could make a mutually beneficial trade or sale (preferably sale since my friend wants it) but I'm going to start trying to go through all this stuff and list it in my collection so you guys can ask about stuff you might need. With the physical problems I've been having I want to try to do more at home so I don't feel like such a bum.

I have been slowly building up games for systems but if I list them in my available I'll just get offers I don't want all the time. Are there any systems you want me to start listing first @Gypsy ?!?

It really is for my friend, he can be a little selfish so if I get an amazing and low priced inflection from you he's going to expect that all the time lol. Plus he'd most likely be paying cash or I'd send some of my growing horde of unplayed titles your way 😉

Are you okay? What kind of physical problems? :(

You can just pm me a list if you want.

Well you could always charge him more than I charge you lol. Like my extra Crazy Taxi to you would be free cause it has some audio hiccups sometimes.

I am definitely down to trade too. Though shipping a Dreamcast bundle to California is gonna cost. XD

They don't need to be discounts I probably can't afford systems right now but I will definitely try to buy the perfect shot and the gba cases from you at the beginning of May.

I just can't overextend myself and your stuff is too good 😊 It's already great prices. But I will "see" whatmy friend is thinking but we have monthly payments here every month good sir it's a lot of money so I can't promise anything unless he or I started selling some of our stuff.

Oh I know I wanted to give my D.C. Away during the steals thread and it was around the time it was super hot. Plus AT LEAST 20 bucks to ship maybe more since I had the box and cardboard system holder inside the box lol.

No I charge him whatever I pay but I just want you to know that it's for my friend and you do way too much nice stuff already. Yeah I would pm you but then I'll forgot what I have. And I will still add stuff I don't wanna trade since it is in collection. But anything you want just ask and it's most likely yours 😊 I'll need at least a week though I'll let you know for sure and won't trade anything until you've checked most of it out 😉

And no worries it's just all the social anxiety (feeling sick to my stomach a lot) and the messed up arm. Once I see a doctor the arm will probably be fine again it's just painful and not as much range of motion. But I'm going to be home for most of the month (no more train rides thank goodness) so my stomach is getting better for now.
