new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Could still do that I guess it's only the 30th I guess. Or redo the site poll if everyone wanted to

If I'm being honest, I want it changed since the winner wasn't to my liking. But, if I'm still being honest, I'd want it to stay the same if it had been something I voted as my first, second, or third choice. So, yeah, I'm a douche and, no, I don't think we should tinker any further with it. broken heart

Sticking with the results, we'll do PM's next time. DD isn't allowed to play TMNT without playing MM. That includes just playing it for fun BTW.

I think most of us don't know because many of us wanted a kick to play it for the first time. But it looks basically unrelated besides being sci-fi graphic adventure games made by the same guy.

Why? Then people would be pissed about that game too. I wasn't sure what was happening exactly I'm honestly still not even sure how this works.

I also like the idea that we can all nominate one game to have it be fair. And I'm guessing we aren't going to be doing this type of voting again now or what?

Yeah, they learned it took like what 2-3 weeks to sell out, so they increased the print run by 3000 for these.

BOOM!

Also I think people pm'ing you to vote is a great idea. Besides not stuffing the ballot it keeps everything completely unbiased by being anonymous plus people can't check what is leading.

Yeah but if still like to have default post everyone's ballots after a winner is chosen. That way no could say anything is amiss again.

Also that blue Mega Man 2 is awesome! That's the one Mega Man I've always wanted most in the series after seeing all the cool levels and bosses. Do those fancy capcom games come with instruction booklets as well? Oh and what color are the dust sleeves if the carts are blue? I gotta look at that link again. 😊

Screw you guys those Mega Man 2 carts are effin gorgeous! No dust sleeve it looks like but a glow in the dark copy would be worth a ton if someone got one.

Will it not work on an actual Nes system? Cause if it does then what's the difference? I could always just load up Mega Man collection on Xbox or GameCube (I can't remember which one I have) and play any of those games.

What makes an original Mega Man 2 cart worth so much more to you guys? Like seriously? Because you can sell it for more? Because why?

That's the thing...it's not worth more. It's a $20 cart and this is a $100 repro of it.

Devil's advocate: if the production run is approved by the publisher and developer, is it a reproduction or a re-release? winking raspberry

I was more or less thinking this as well BUT THIS DOES LOOK REALLY NICE!

I don't collect a lot of things but this would be one of those things that I could see going for. Plus it doesn't need a battery changed if I'm remembering right it used passwords. Or weird symbols like a lot of the earliest Nintendo games used.

This does look a lot better than the Street Fighter 2 cart set and I kinda wanted that one.

I know I'm a little weird but when semi common games get the fancy repro treatment I kinda like that. It's no worse than being 15 and telling my foster dad we needed every copy of SF2 they released on snes. Those were 50 fudging dollars each and midway wasn't doing that with Mortal Kombat (well mk3 umk3 mktrilogy but they were adding things different and extra from the arcade versions still not worth it but ..... capcom was evil!)

100 dollars for a fancier version maybe isn't worth it for SF2 but Mega Man 2? I never owned it as a kid and always wanted a nice new version of it. Now I can have it maybe if I'm able to reserve a copy, which thank you @DefaultGen for posting that link now I got something nice to wish for 😊

Should have made a repro of the SNES mega man games, at least there you'd have more of a justification to tack on that stupid 100 dollar tag.

I have to see what I'm going to do. I rarely spend full price on anything ..... you guys know this. I almost never spend frivolously either.

I didn't buy that mini centipede (or the tempest) arcade cabinet and I didn't buy that Freddy vs Jason Friday the 13th repro for Nes (but it's still on my Amazon wishlist) maybe I can just have this one little overpriced blue Nes game?!? I thought today was still April for some reason and I even tried beating Golden Axe. I haven't been getting good nutrition to make sure I'm paying all my expenses whenever I can. I even was looking at this ghetto garbage pink dresser out by the dumpster wondering if it can be saved and cleaned so I can use it to help me sort out all this stuff .....

As thrifty as I am and I still want that damn game. I know I should just buy an Nes classic with that money though ..... if it still is coming out again.

If you want it and can afford it -- if it'll make you happy -- definitely get it, @BleedingViolet. If you've got a limited budget (and who doesn't?), weigh your choices carefully and choose between this and whatever else you've been eyeballing, like the NES Classic Edition (Nintendo Entertainment System). But, don't let the fact that it's a corporately condoned reproduction stop you from buyin' it. Hell, I've not only paid more for a video game and video game accessory than anyone else here, I've also paid more for a video game reproduction than anyone else here. But, that doesn't stop me from doing it 'cause if I want it and can afford it -- if it'll make me happy -- I'm definitely gonna get it. wink

I agree with all of this and of top of that I don't buy all the super expensive computer upgrades everyone is always bragging about in this thread.

Hell I buy lots of stuff with the idea that IF I'm ever super broke or lose my apartment or whatever ALL these games are worth money and so much smaller than most things that cost that much. And the first thought is I can trade it to someone who would love it or possibly just give it to them.

We all have our quirks at least I'm not trying to jump from relationship to relationship anymore. Also am I the only one in this thread who doesn't collect anime and spend lots on it?

I think it's okay to be obsessed with Lolo and Mileena and Harvest Moon 😊

Do I wish I could play every of my favorite game on their original controller? Yeah. But I don't miss the huge boxes for like 6 games. I'm even considering more downsizing. I have enough unplayed ds, 3ds, and psp games to last me quite a while. In fact I am trying to focus on those now. The extra money sitting in paypal makes me feel good.

Yeah that does make sense, I'm over here struggling to pay everyone I owe every month. I can't remember the last time if ever I was actually trying to save. Although technically if I had extra money I'd just buy tastier more expensive food or ..... no I'd buy food for sure maybe try to buy some other essentials to make life better or easier.

Holy guacamole y'all!

I know you're not huge Xbox fans but the free game with gold on 360 right now is Streets of Rage this should be a bonus game of the month since it's free and not everyone actually finished it.

That would be a cool first game to run it back because it makes more sense since again it is technically free and it even has achievements so we could make it even more interesting if you guys wanted to.

Plus we could compare it to other versions I think they may have remade this but I'm not sure I'm about to download it 😃

Edit: om effing gee it's all three Streets of Rage games!

For free you're welcome for the heads up! 😉

I agree that it's fine to treat yourself when it's within your budget. However, it's a $100 AUTHORIZED REPRO CART and that's ridiculous. There are better ways to show appreciation for Mega Man and I have sent you a PM.

I'm probably the only major anime collector that is a regular in this thread, SNR pops in on occasion though. I don't really spend much though. My most expensive individual purchases would be the old Ronin Warriors mongoloid digipak from @sailorneorune (thanks again, I watched it dubbed which is not possible on the discotek set) and this monstrosity: https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo... which has a ton of content for the price.

The large majority of it was acquired through patient eBay lurking, people here helping me out (big thanks also to @kevolones monkeysmadness and SNR again) and lucking into deals at local stores (way too many hot local deals to list but my personal favourite would be the Lupin "Haul" dvd sets for $11.99 each). .Also sharing the love here when possible but only a few people here ever wanted to trade for anime. My last scorching deal (via CL, oddly enough) I got a lot of stuff to keep but sold what I didn't want to a buddy of mine for like, half of eBay sold rates. cool smile

Oh and unlike games I basically never sell off anime unless it's a double or I REALLY hated it so this has been a slow burn over like 7 years.

It was kinda funny looking over my old trades. Familiar of Zero for Fate/Stay Night was some BIG BALLER CRAP at the time but that's the funny thing about anime and why you should never overpay: stuff not named Macross can always be rereleased in the west.

I meant I never even watch anime and when I do buy it it's super cheap and my intention is usually for my ex fiance or maybe my nephews in the future or there was this one movie I still would like to watch with my Gramma in the future when she comes to stay out here 😊

I hoard but not really collect anything, my forever collection has like 3 games in it total right now. Maybe more but I just have to figure out what I have. That's kinda why I wanted this beautiful blue Mega Man 2 or the Friday the 13th Vs Freddy Repro or a mini arcade cabinet (which is SUPER COOL)

I've been meaning to tell you guys there is someone local who makes quality arcade countertop games he had a Neo Geo half cabinet set up it wasn't cheap but it had all the Neo Geo games and two players with nice looking. I had thought about selling a bunch of stuff just to get one and even if he doesn't still have that specific half cabinet it looks like he can custom build another.

All of it? If so how much, I'm down to watch the original Twilight. Looks like it's really cheap on Amazon is it even worth you messing with shipping? I'd be interested to know if you plan to get rid of anything else as well.

Double sided discs are really unfortunate. You basically can't leave them sitting outside of the case anywhere because you'd always be leaving a data side face down. I have a few live action show sets that are double sided. If there was any alternative for those shows, I'd replace them.
