new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

pretty much yeah. Having several problems. Having said that, most of the games are fully playable without any problems. So I can live with it at the price I paid.

Yeah, never make fun of my $100 Chinese arcade stick emulator people unless you bring up $50 Rock Papper Scissors too.

Obscure Japanese imports are exactly the same as cheaply made pirated joystick emulation machines. No difference I can see.

Lol, did they really partial refund $130? $100 is still a lot, but more palatable at least.

Yeah. I just went for a long shot. I was like look if you refund that much I'll keep it with all the problems. I expected them to agree to the return at that point. But they did it. I'm fine paying $100 for it. It's worth $100 just to keep it. I mean I did enjoy it as I was testing it out. I'll definitely try to play lots of 2D brawlers that are on this thing.

Nice looks like they still profit with minus $130. The $20 cost in parts are really starting to make sense.

I'm sure you could have gotten it at $50 and they'd agree.

Let me or @Gypsy or @DiamondDave know if anyone wants to join in on the RTT Discord Channel. While it's great fun to have dialogues right in RTT, sometimes the time lapse between posts can cause a conversation to change subjects quickly.

RTT Discord is a great channel to just do some quick banter or thought dump. I thought it was going to disrupt the flow of RTT but we have proved there is more than enough to say in our collective minds.

What's this "normal" person shenanigans?

Is normal collecting a complete set and not playing 90% of the games?

Is it normal to have backlog up to the ceiling of games you will get to 'someday'?

We are all outcasts of society, anything but normal.

It's not unreasonable to want to play something new and/or different. We all have our quirks about what we like and what we find acceptable to play.

I still want one of those Pandora's box things myself. I at first thought @ErickRPG may have received a bootleg of the bootleg. (Yes fake Pandora's box systems are out there) I watched a video of a guy who received one and said it was awful before his viewers on YouTube pointed out to him it was a fake.

Either way all the videos I saw of it, it looked like a ton of fun. Btw @Lunar I was wrong about Sonic 1 I actually really had fun playing through it. The challenge was a little touch and go as far as enjoyment (almost no one enjoys cheap video game deaths.) but overall I liked it a lot! I think my initial thoughts before playing it the other night stemmed more from how much more I enjoyed Sonic 2 when I was younger. Yeah it's tough as nails in spots, but not as frustrating as when I played it a few years ago on the 360. Overall I'd say it's aged pretty well. In fact the only drawback that REALLY stood out to me was the direct repetition of the same exact platforms in some levels. (Not the Labyrinth mind you). I'm still going to try to go for all the Chaos Emeralds I kinda really want that ending 😊

This thing? Suggestion: Next time save a hundred dollars, do the hard work yourself and just buy a good arcade stick and play the games you want to play instead of effectively buying a bunch of roms. Don't pay $100 for them to do the setup for you, you'd literally be paying them the equivalent of $1200/hr at that rate. They're not worth that much.

I had one and returned it at $380. For $240, I'll keep it. It allows me to play all of my gog games at work. I liked it actually. Only thing I didn't like was having to put a file in each game folder just to fix the screen orientation. For $140 less than I originally paid, I'll put up with it.

I don't agree. It would take several days to get all of the roms and set up something like hyperspin. I don't agree it's $1200/hr.

You think they do all this by hand? They have an image, it has everything. It's dumped onto the hardware, the hardware's packed in and plugged up to the controller, they ship it out. It's probably less than five minutes.

Even considering setting up the initial image they use to mass-produce this thing... Do you think it's that hard to get a huge dump of ROMs in the first place? The hardest part was opening the torrent file. The next hardest part was telling the emulator frontend where to look for the ROM files. The NEXT hardest part was screwing the thing into the chassis. There is no harder part after that.

But you're right. Considering this is Chinese engineering, the person who set this up probably wasn't even being paid at all. *polite clapping, light keyboard music in background*

To me it would be better for my setup to put a SFF PC , load up retro arch and play? Why would someone get a Pandora? Convenience?

SFF PC = $300
Arcade stick = already got one, doesn't everyone on RTT?
Adaptor in case of compatibility issues ($40x2 = $80???)

So maybe ~$380 to do piracy emulation right?

ETA Prime on youtube is the place to go if you are serious, everything except getting the pirate roms, of course. All the technical stuff handled in simple terms. BTW He said Pandora 5 is trash for the serious player, fine for the casual.

I don't actually know who makes them but it's more about who sells them, I don't know if the guy ever mentioned where he bought it.

He talks a lot in the video, does the whole "unboxing thing" ..... it's exhausting but there were some conflicting comments. Some say buy on eBay from a company called 3A some say the fakes have advantages over the originals as you don't have to sit through 8 second intro videos every time you switch between games.

https://youtu.be/mmGhPJ-hjps

Edit: just so you guys know, I absolutely did not sit through this entire video. I couldn't but that's just me.
