new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I was thinking like 30 minutes to an hour. We can have some sort of intro in the beginning, like GTZ origin stories, how you found GTZ. Then we can talk about RTT a bit and our game of the month. Then ill have some questions ready for when are done with the intro, RTT and small talk.

(uneducated opinion) A good podcast production with remote people will have good mics at each end, a time sync and everyone recording linear audio into something like Audacity, everyone uploads their streams to someone who can mix them and do some quick EQ for the peaks, then you get a finished product you can distribute after compressing.

This is going to be like the "Merv Griffin" episode of Seinfeld and you get to be the host aka Kramer 😉

I think it would be fun to listen to if not totally bizarre that is 😊 And yes I think Lets play together should have one of the recurring time slots in every episode including talking about maybe why you are suggesting (insert random future game pick here) for game of the month.

It would also be cool to talk about retro rereleases coming to different consoles that people should know about. I mean part of what makes this thread so great is when people are sharing which games are headed where and people like me are usually unaware of.

As far as the podcast, everyone definitely has to record locally in Audacity so the audio isn't bullcrap. Use Auphonic or levelator (or something) to noise gate and normalize the audio because none of you guys are audio engineers. Use good closed headphones that don't bleed out sound and cause echo headaches. Use pop filters and shock mounts. Rig up a sound shield:

image

Don't buy a fudging $100 piece of foam like a moron. I drape acoustic blankets I have laying around over a ladder and keyboard stand. It's professional as fudge. Turn off your AC, dishwasher, washing machine...

I'd be happy to talk shop with you guys but don't want to crowd anyone out. I've been on podcasts with 6 people that were disasters. I'll definitely listen yes

PulseMan is great I REALLY like it! It's not supposed to be Mega Man, it's a Genesis game and it's a lot closer to Sonic than Mega Man and it's better than the first Sonic as far as I'm concerned.

And yeah I have been playing it almost everyday but I'm in no hurry to finish it. Since you know, I actually ENJOY playing it and all.

Also I've been playing it on an arcade stick and it's the first time I've used this controller so I think it controls pretty well. There's a learning curve on this one too so it's really unique and the graphics are gorgeous!

I'm a little curious. Why intentionally exclude Mega Man 5 (Nintendo Entertainment System) and Mega Man 6 (Nintendo Entertainment System) and intentionally include Mega Man 8 -- Anniversary Collector's Edition (PlayStation)? Don't get me wrong; personally, I love 'em all. But, I've been told that the popular vote endorses the former much more than the latter. surprise

He has also said Mega Man 10 isn't very good, I might actually like 10 better than 9 but I haven't played either in awhile. I think sometimes people just get caught up in little differences from each game. Like omg he doesn't have that one move in this game? it's garbage! Throw it out! I've really enjoyed every Mega Man I've played too including MMX but I still think I like the 8 bit style better.

I'm like that with Mortal Kombat too though so I have Zero room to talk. They killed Mileena in MKX and she's my favorite video game character ever and my Main in any MK game she's in. I haven't even bothered playing through the story mode in MKX yet because screw that!

Got my first negative feedback on ebay in years, for a copy of Conker for Xbox. It worked when I tested it a few months ago, the buyer said it doesn't work and I refunded them but they still left a negative a few days later. It was in really bad condition, and I had a bad feeling about selling it but still did and didn't test it again before shipping. Lesson learned there, I've got a big box of games including some expensive titles like copies of Def Jam NY for PS2 and Xbox that both have cracks in the center of the disc and both work, that I've been holding off on selling.

Also I'll let you guys know when there's more interesting stuff up, right now I'm working on bundling up all the common titles that are here I didn't list on the first round and have to go get the rest of the cool crap once I have room in my apartment.

If you refunded the money I don't get why they had to neg you. For all I know that's your main source of income and this person negs you?!? Did they at least send the game back? Because even if it looked bad that doesn't mean it doesn't work AND they saw the pics and ordered it anyways?

You need to get that game back to test again otherwise that person is probably trying to get it for free.

I tried fixing a cracked spindle with Ambroid Pro Weld and fudgeed a working disc, so don't do that! Get these thingies: https://www.rubberdisc.com/product-page/100-hub-pr...

I'm just letting it go it was $20, the disc was in bad condition and I didn't test that far into the game. I offered them $10 to remove the negative but they haven't responded yet.

Was there some sort of Xbox collecting related announcement today? I just sold 4 expensive and not very in demand xbox games that had been sitting for a bit today all to different people.

I got a buyer of my Super Nintendo HDRetrovision cable with some compatibility issues, posting here to see if there are any possible solutions.

He's getting a black and white image. This is what the back of his display/TV looks like, there are two:

I find that most people (like myself) dismissed Mega Man 8 simply because they didn't spend more than 10 minutes with it and didn't even figure out the controls properly. Once I did, it's better than Mega Man 7, and from what I've played, it's significantly more game for your buck than most Mega Man installations.

I didn't care for 5 or 6. I felt like MM10's level design was compromised to make room for the Easy Mode, and I didn't like the music in 10 nearly as much as I did in 9.

I got into an argument on Facebook regarding values.

I can accede the point that for $300, if you've already got a PCE, this could POSSIBLY hit the value threshhold by making it not a useless piece of RF output crap, but you can buy a friggin' Duo R for less. Hell, I just bought a Coregrafx with a Super CD-ROM2 drive AND Fighting Street for $250.

Sounds stupid but he doesn't have the red audio cable plugged in instead of the red video cable correct? Also I am really cursing my luck right now, I may have missed a Nintendo GameCube component cable for $30 by a day!! I am 2nd in line, but cant see why first person would drop out. Also I know one was offered for sale recently here, how do people feel about Neo Geo Pocket Color? One is for sale on FB market locally. Console in good shape and Metal Slug 1st mission and crush roller cart onlys.

@Lunar it's really not your fault if it isn't compatible with his tv... However if it's displaying black and white it's likely a problem with them being a moron. If the tv is incompatible it should just not display anything.

@DiamondDave I'm sure that went well and your opponent graciously accepted defeat.

I would totally be cool with just an sd loader to save wear and tear on the cd rom that worked like an everdrive and didn't emulate at all.

There was one being worked on that would work only with an interface unit. I hope this project doesn't kill that.

That's pretty much what it's doing. When they're describing an "ODE" it's not literally like, "Oh you're running a PC Engine emulator!", it's simply instructing the system to read this data as if it were coming from an optical drive from either a Super CD-ROM2 or an IFU set with a CD-ROM2 drive set into it, it's the exact same data it's using as if you had it burned and used the burned copy in a real drive. With this plugged into a PC Engine or a Coregrafx, you have an SD card assembly essentially spoofing the CD drive, Arcade-card equivalent and the back-up RAM included in the Duo/Duo R, as well as giving you composite/RGB output in a similar form factor to the Tennokoe 2. This is the same as the Neo Geo carts they offer, and is essentially the same as Everdrives. It's not an emulation in the way you're thinking of an emulation.

@Gypsy , if I'm thinking of the same project you are, that was one solo guy and he obviously stalled out. These kinds of projects are awful difficult to finish if you're a one-man show, let alone scale for offer.

Well if they would strip it down to work for a duo, not sure how doable that is given the lack of an expansion port and skip all the video out extra stuff, I might be interested. Kind of like the GD-Emu for dreamcast, but hopefully less expensive.

The Duo/R/RX do not have an interface for this sort of thing, you're looking for like, the equivalent of a GD-ROM drive replacement. They're still very expensive (Most solutions like this for Saturn/DC run around $250 I believe) and require substantial modification to get up and running, usually some soldering is required. This thing literally pops on the back of any PCE/Coregrafx. It's pretty handy.

Just... not $300 handy, lol. If you only had a PC Engine (not Coregrafx) this would be a no-brainer at this price, since it replaces both a drive AND an Everdrive, AND upgrades you from RF only to either composite or straight-up RGB.

I'll probably end up getting one, just won't be an early adopter for this. Hopefully it's still in production in a year or two, and hopefully the cost of this stuff goes down or we get some more competition on the scene. For some reason these guys have the worst fudging luck with plastic shell tooling, they're still backfudgeed on the AVS carts.

The good news is you can still get a basic white PCE for like $30-35 with patience. So it doesn't require much at all to add to this thing to get it rolling.

Yeah. That $30 is also assuming you have a power supply, video cable and a controller. If you have to buy a controller that's another $20 minimum these days. I would think anyone really into old games would have a compatible power supply and av cable. So it's anywhere from $310 to about $370 total depending on your needs. What you get over a $250-ish purchase: RGB, everdrive, arcade card. So it's not completely terrible as PCE/Turbo goes but I won't be rushing out to buy it either and I bet the profit margin is really high.

Well to be fair they've gotta get their R&D back, that ain't exactly free, regardless of the cost of parts. Everdrives are comparatively uncomplicated bits of metal.

Products like these are also marketed toward people who just want to play without having to hunt on ebay or look for trades, and have the disposable cash.

But I wonder how big the market is considering TG16/PCE is relatively obscure? Compared to Nintendo or Sega, let's say.

Can't those people just emulate?

Smaller, much smaller. I really like the PCE game library but then I really like the Saturn and Dreamcast too. For most 'tards Turbo is something they move on to after they are bored with collecting NES, SNES and Genesis. I have more PCE games than those three consoles COMBINED.

Ive gotten into NEC PC Engine real late and am having to slowly build up a physical collection. Its very small compared to my genesis collection though. I enjoy the turbo everdrive/ mega ed for getting to test drive before I buy though. I think that has kept my physical collection lower than it otherwise would be since a lot of games play worse than I imagine them too. Had some fun trying out Trouble Shooter on Genesis with the Mega ED last night.

I used to have a lot more Genesis games but I've been purging down to Sonic and Shining Force only more or less. I do have some low level filler that is close to unsellable remaining. I don't think I've ever had more than 10 NES or SNES games that I would consider in my collection at any given point. I have had more than that in my possession due to the acquisition of large lots. An everdrive for Genesis is something I'd like to get at some point. I don't think I have enough interest in NES/SNES to get one for either of those systems.

I got into PCE fairly late too. Older stuff where I built up a large collection early/cheap was PS1/PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast. I long since cashed out of PS1 (lol mistake) and only have my favourites now.
