new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I think I was the top trader like once. Back when I was really active selling the new stuff to make money for the retro stuff. Also did a few trades because I just had a much larger available list and want list. I am very content with how my collection list has evolved since I've been here.

It's nothing like CS, it's crap. You throw a hundred people onto one map and pepper it with weapons and see who's left when the battlefield keeps shrinking.

It's incredibly boring and winning is largely a thing of luck.

Only if you're not lucky you get to wait 20-30 minutes before starting a new game, but usually you'll go to move a piece a few minutes in and you just lose. Pretty sweet.

Was gonna go ahead and say "screw it" to Battlefront 2 for $35 on Origin, but that game stutters like a jerk on PC. Every time the game loads a new asset, or preloads a level during a cutscene, or loads another chunk of the level or shows a model for the first time, the game just ...stops.

I've got an SSD, so this is mildly infuriating. Everyone has this problem too, apparently, so I just said screw it and took advantage of their 24 hour return period. Could be a driver issue; I'll just wait for the game to hit $20 just to be sure.

Sega Genesis Gain Ground (Finally won an auction that didn't go for like $70!)

So one of these random PCE filler games I got from @Lunar awhile back is pretty sweet. Neo Metal Fantasy. It's basically Phantasy Star II on the PCE. If this had been localized it would be like $400 now. Since it wasn't and it's a text heavy JRPG it's like $10 shipped from Japan.

Kega Fusion for life, I'm down to one Dreamcast and one boxed Non-TMSS Genesis Model 1, baby. Couldn't be bothered to keep any CD models around for less than a dozen games I'd ever want to play. frown

Let's see my list here.

Sonic CD (can go without, better port on PC)
Shining Force CD
Lord of Thunder
Snatcher
uhm. Keio
Robo Aleste?

lol, this crap is hilarious. They hyped this video up and released it at a FGC event of some sort. Spoiler: It's Team Ninja saying "We're done with Dead or Alive"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=7&v=jO...

You can hear people getting amped up and hyped, and then everyone takes their turn to say "Sayonara" essentially. If Capcom pulled this crap nobody would buy their games anymore.

If the games weren't insane and I could keep a system around for $40-50, absolutely, I'd go for a full set probably, looks sexy as hell on a shelf, and I DO wanna try everything out. But I look at the aftermarket prices and I'm just like "Ah, no"

Those cases, man. Only reason I regretski not collecting pysical, the shelf candy factor IS real, if you can stick with it long enough to get a proper collection going. PCE, Genesis and Sega CD are probably the three systems I'd go for. Way too late now though.

@DiamondDave Popful Mail is the truth. Very far from an RPG too. Collecting PCE games makes your shelf an explosion of color.

@tonymack21 Yeah I understand. I was getting Criterion blurays mostly and a few others as well (Ran was not a Criterion release I guess because it was a joint Japanese/French venture and Studio Canal still has the rights) and Amazon is actually pretty competitive on movie prices. Won't bill and ship until today, so it won't show until next week in the amazon thread.

@Lunar that reminds me I need to burn Keio and a few others. I've been on a burning spree but haven't done anything for Sega CD.

I would start with an everdrive whether you plan to collect or not. With the prices of turbo and pce games quite high I like to take games for a spin first.

If you like pinball checkout devils crush. Ninja spirit is a fun platformer that's sort of like ninja gaiden.

PCE games.

Or...
Blazing Lasers
Keith Courage
Bonk 1 & 2
JJ & Jeff
Dragon Spirit
Alien Crush

Those are all pretty cheap.

Everdrive and done.

Seriously. At the very least, try stuff out before emptying your savings account.

100% this. Everdrive is the only way to play all the good games if you aren't a millionaire.

but these are my favorite:

Blazing Lazers
Bonk 3
Magic Chase

Understandable since that is like $11,000 in games.

MC isn't even that good frankly, if you like that but you don't think Ordyne's a better game you're crap at judging games.

Hero Tonma's another one that's just as obscure and hard to come across as the other 99% of the library but somehow randomly shot up to ridiculous pricing. Some kids are just Turbotarded.

Magical Cheddar is super overrated. Coryoon is too expensive as well but better than MC. Cotton is better than both.

Soldier Blade, Final Soldier, Super Star Soldier, Spriggan, Lords of Thunder, Gate of Thunder, Nexzr, Gunhed/BL, PC Denjin, Star Parodier.

That crap's the top 10 shootun imo. I've played pretty much every shooter on the system.

I still need to hit up Spriggan. All the other titles you listed I would cautiously say are worth their asking prices if you want the bee's knees in shmups. Tatsujin's another story altogether

The more I play Ordyne the more I hate it and love it, it's like R-Type which I would argue is probably better than most of the shmups on the system on a difficulty and satisfaction curve alone. You need to dance to the beat in order to get through those stages. It's not quite Darius Plus levels of bullcrap where if you get hit you basically have to hit reset. It's close but most deaths in R-type are recoverable. EVERY death in Ordyne's recoverable, because upgrades are all temporary anyways.

Only place it's affordable anymore. I actually sold a Truxton case and cart on eBay as parts/repair only to someone on this site for ass-cheap who fixed it up with some solder, coulda made double its ending price if I'd have known.

I paid $13 for Ordyne in 2015. I'd say it's easily worth that. It's probably gone up though.

Weird, I paid, like, 20 bucks for the US version just last year.

You can get a super smokey HuCard only for $15, imported from Japan right now. The rest aren't worth buying loose, and the $30 was shipped from the US, the rest at $30 or above come from Japan. Turbo versions are WAY higher, because of Turbotards actually hitting BIN on these derp prices.

Here you go, in 2017 you can get the jewel case without the game or the manual for $23
