new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I think you would like it if you're a fan of the Fire Emblem games, in particular. There are four playable main characters and they all have their own stories and recruitable characters. That's one reason why I played it so much as a teenager. (I usually just played as the vampire in more recent playthroughs. I should give it another shot as Krystal sometime - don't think I ever beat it with her as my main.) Obviously, the visuals don't hold up too well, but that's a non-issue for retro gamers like us.

@Wheels617

Atari Jaguar is awesome btw! There's a few games I love on it.

Nba Jam I've never actually played on Jaguar. But Tempest 2000 is fun, Alien vs. Predator isn't perfect but it's a must have if you own a Jaguar. There are a few games like AVP that aren't complete without controller overlays (AVP is the only one I know of that had 3 individual overlays) and there are some semi rare games that were released years after the Jaguar was discontinued that can be pretty pricey. But it's a good system overall, you might hate some of the games but some you might love and they are almost all original. Originally Rayman came out on the Jaguar and it has a secret mini game that's only in the jaguar version.

My favorite jaguar games are

Alien vs Predator
Ultra Vortek
Doom (lol it's the same as everywhere else probably but I still love this version)
Val d'isere ski and snowboarding
(This is probably a game you won't care about but I always liked it)
Checkered Flag (a lot of people hated this game and I know it's flawed but I love it

Edit: there's more games for sure but I've got to finish going through stuff.

@BloodPuppetX The visuals look pretty solid from what I'm seeing online. I'll burn it off first and decide. My main concern is the gameplay, though it should be recent enough that it's not horribad it could still have old strategy game trappings. Gen IV is pretty hit or miss for me on strategy games. Gen V and up, the gameplay was down pat for the most part.

I've been playing games since the 2600 so I'm pretty old school and eclectic.

I'll put it this way, though i didn't like it, it's less like, say, Daisenryaku, and more like a mix up of fire emblem/military madness.

yes I was really just messing with you there. I've never even played the Jaguar, lol...I first played Dark Wizard in the mid 90s, so it was still pretty fresh at the time. Definitely research it before you decide if you want to purchase it. Besides myself, I haven't seen too many people call it their favorite Sega CD game. Of course, there are a lot of SCD games I have never played (Vay, Snatcher, Lunar 2 to name a few). Regardless, it's still a game that I hold in high regard. I got a SCD from bonham2 a few years ago just so I could play it again, lol.

Definitely play the Sega CD version of Lunar 2. It's tl;dr and I've doged about it on this site before probably.

The first Lunar otoh, the Sega CD version is really unpolished so I'd say play the Saturn version if you can handle that or if you need it in English the PS1 version.

^ That was the order I played them in, oddly enough. Probably because I didn't have a Sega CD when I was 6. Weird.

I think both versions are worth playing. It's just if you are going to play one version the Sega CD version of Lunar EB is just a lot better imo. Especially if you care about narrative things and I'm a big reader so I can't help it.

Yeah they really bogged the ps1 version down with a lot of unnecessary junk, i guess so they could justify a remake. Also the music is inferior.

Actually both of these arguments make total sense these days, BUT if I'm not mistaken there is an add on for one of the retron systems that you can play game gear and master system games.

This should be the one. Plus there is at least one Shining Force game on game gear and a couple cute platformers too. Maybe even a Jurassic Park game 😊

Magical Puzzle Popils is an excellent puzzle game that's pretty much a game gear exclusive(unless you're the fool who shelled out 10k for the unreleased turbo version) but really, most game gears just need new caps at worst. /random recommendation

Well I might not bother with an actual game gear system per se but if I had the retron 5 and the game gear adapter that magical puzzle popils is better than columns right? And hopefully WAY deeper yes?

Because I could see myself getting that stuff just for shining force hajya (or whatever it's called) hell I would want a Saturn just for Shining Force 3 but when I had a Saturn it was more expensive used than anything else and I never got that one before I just traded it. Getting back to game gear that would be two games I would want. I'm trying to think what else was on game gear that wasn't pure garbage compared to every other possible version on another system ..... Dammit now I gotta research, because you are right it is cheap enough to collect every game as long as you're cool with cart only.

Definitely better than colums, sure, and practically any other puzzle outside of the tetris's would be deeper than that, but yeah. Never released in america though PAL imports aren't particularly crazy.

Yeah i know, i pretty much bought a saturn just for that too, and shining the holy ark, not so much shining wisdom though hell i got the pseudo thing JUST to play the fan translations on a real saturn, It's great.

Even the manuals are common enough, often you see tons of lots with, like ~10 games and most will have the manuals, it's just the boxes you never see. Sword of Hayja is like ~30 bucks right now, but if you're patient you could probably at least find it in a console/game lot for a decent price.
Recommendations, i guess see if Ninja gaiden is a sane price, not really anything like the console games but it's not bad, and tails adventure is a decent metroid type game.

I might be, why do you not want yours? I wouldn't have cash for a couple weeks even to ship anything honestly.

I also have a game store down the street from me which I would probably trade a bunch of my games to just for a free retron 3 lol. That is, if you're wanting to keep yours. I would only want yours if you were getting rid of it anyways, I do not like pressuring people at all.

Actually I've been working up a list of extra systems to post in a sale thread here for the last couple hours as I do remote work for hte office at the same time, lol.

I've had mine since release, used it about 80 hours, mainly as I didn't have a place to put all the original consoles at that time. Now I've got all my original consoles setup in the living room so I don't need the retron anymore or my Fire Orange N64 or my HiDef NES Top Loader...etc, etc. It's not a pressuring thing at all, just looking to start offloading a bunch of stuff I don't use anymore, systems and games. Just kinda worked out that I was already working on that list of systems (including the Retron 5) for a post here in a bit anyway.

The last time I checked on sword of hajya it was like 15 but maybe that was here on gametz lol. 30 bucks isn't bad anyways. I just gotta stop wasting everything I have on games all the time. It's a sickness. My apartment probably looks like DonLads 😐

Is game gear compatible with foreign game gear games?

I'm not even sure what fan translations you mean. What like the 2 Japanese only shining force 3 games translated into English? Woah. I'm not as up on Saturn and sega cd as you guys are.

Well in that case I'd be interested early next month for sure if no one else makes you a better offer first. And I'm shocked that no one is trying to get your fire orange from you already. I can always throw a bunch of random commons in for you too but most of my retro stuff that's available isn't complete or in perfect shape so money would be easier I'm sure.

Okay that does make sense lol, even as I was playing Ninja Gaiden I saw some mistakes in speech during cutscenes ...... I was like REALLY?

But yeah shining force games always seemed to have plenty of dialogue since there are so many characters you can have.

Now I want to have my Jellyfish and my Jogurt on the same battles 😊

I don't have to do spoilers for that right?

Like, the reset is "less brutal" than NG's reset, but that stage is effing hell, man. It crushes you a bit every time. So best to nail the bosses the first shot. smiley:::smile

I had it down to a fine fudging art by the time I was ready to finish the bosses. Planned hits and all.

I could do 6-2 no problem once I got the hang of it. On 7-2 I had two spots I'd intentionally die and use as a "checkpoint". No idea how to get past the final few guys without getting hit either. In fact lots of areas in 7-2 I intententionally got hit. Beat it finally though.

I watched a speed run tutorial and some sections, especially with multiple birds, were just ridiculous to pull off. Then I watched my boy Dugongue's 40m "speed run" and he had the real strats on how to get through the game the nice and slow way.

Dankyawww.

I don't think any system has done Sega CD. Closest system to even attempt CD (well, actually no, they flat-out did it with Drac X and Lords of Thunder) was Wii and PCE Super CD.

@DefaultGen their online has always been pretty fudgeed. Still is frankly, trying to do mental gymnastics to figure out whether to sign in with Nintendo Network ID or "Nintendo ID" and which password is associated or being changed when you click change password actually kinda pisses me off.

Ok well fudge everyone involved because SFCD is the far superior experience and people should be able to buy that instead of the Gamegear version of SF Gaiden 2. I mean anyone that really cares can emulate themselves or burn off a cdr but still it sucks when companies make it hard to want to support them.

I do know that PCE CD used to be problematic for emulation, dunno if it still is or not.

I dunno. Is the Metroid (Nintendo Entertainment System) variant any more or less expensive than the original? The same goes for the cartridges with both "five screw" and "three screw" variations. I know people like to rag on how expensive retro video games are. But, c'mon! smiley:::winking raspberry

My Game Gear is my favorite childhood video game story. All my friends had Game Boys. Game Boy was the crap. For my birthday my parents got me a Game Boy and Kirby's Dream Land (Kirby's Adventure was one of my favorite NES games!). I was thrilled for about 3 minutes. They saw it was black and white and said "Wait, the store had one that was in color!". Despite my "Noooooo!" they thought I was just a kid who wanted what was in front of him. They returned my Game Boy and bought me a Game Gear. I still hate Game Gear to this day.

No one was hating the system really but try playing mortal Kombat on game gear or a few other games that are just ..... Terrible when they were actually decent on other systems and it will frustrate you too. There is some pure unadulterated garbage that came out for it and I can't think of any reason why those games were so terrible compared to every other version other than they just wanted to cash in on the licenses without making a proper game gear port.

Those two topics don't link together because I do NOT regret starting a Jaguar collection. laughing out loud

I probably have 10-15 games now. Half are boxed. I don't have any shocking things to say about my favourite games ... Tempest is by far my most played game. I love that game so much I bought Nuon to play 3000 (haven't found a copy yet).
