Watch Godannar - it's action, comedy, romance, and fan service all rolled into one.
And the best part is you can buy it from PastorMatt in his Anime Sale Thread.
Need a small short-term loan?
Ask benstylus. |

Interesting.
*rummages through the cabinet of doom*
I have recommendations!
Blue Seed: a little old by current standards - '94-'95-ish - but this one holds a special place in my heart as one of the first uncut anime series I had ever watched. It's got a little bit of everything you mentioned - action (fighting giant monsters in Tokyo), comedy (the Omake Theater segments are brilliant), and romance (...not gonna spoil it ). And... it's CHEAP! ADV has a thinpak of the series. Hate thinpaks? I have the original boxset.
Outlaw Star: forever lurking in the shadow of that OTHER funny series about bounty hunters... IN SPACE!, Outlaw Star came out in '98 in Japan. The manga never came out here, but the characters are memorable and the action is exciting. Also available in a cheaptacular boxset, this one from Bandai.
Martian Successor Nadesico: a futuristic tale about a privately contracted battleship piloted by some rather... unusual crew members to save the Earth and Mars from an unknown threat coming from Jupiter. Mostly one-sided romance brought to you by the ship's captain, token airhead Yurika.
This one's cheap too.
Godannar: Do you, Anna, take Go, to have and to hold, and to co-pilot his giant robot? Newlyweds Go and Anna fight unspeakable evil and arguments over breakfast in this twisted anime series - I recently watched this one over vacation. It's action-packed (especially if you are a fan of giant robots) with lots of humor and fanservice (especially if you are a fan of things that jiggle). And for the person who's seen everything... the female-model mecha jiggle. ^^;
Also cheap. Hate thinpaks? Talk to PastorMatt - he's got it for sale.
That's it for now that contains the vital ingredients you're looking for, but won't break the bank.

For what it's worth, I have all the anime I presently own in my Movie Collection list. Take a look, and if you have any questions, ask away!
GameTZ has many members who have anime series they'd recommend - benstylus and I are just two of them.

A few others to check out
Vandread
Those Who Hunt Elves
Ai Yori Aoshi (Really good romance/drama anime with lots of comedy)
Maburaho
Chrono Crusade
Genshiken
Sakura Wars (Which I know sailorneorune will support)
Midori Days
Also i'd suggest going here and taking a look at their top 50 list http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/ratin...
In general Anime News Network is a great site for reviews and ratings. They are really honest and they don't follow hype or allow "popularity" to skew their ratings and reviews of dvds. |

If you liked Please Teacher, follow it up with Please Twins! It features the old characters a little bit but branches off into mostly new people. It's good, not as good as Please Teacher, but enjoyable.
You might also like Fruits Basket. I'm watching it now and loving it (romantic.)
Fullmetal Alchemist is my all time favorite anime. It has a lot of everything and a gripping story.
and if you're looking for the most perverted anime ever, check out Goldenboy. It only has 6 episodes but was good for a giggle.

Blue Drop is interesting. Science fiction, with (apparently) a touch of yuri. The manga is apparently a lot more yuri and explicit than the anime (which isn't explicit at all)
Irresponsible Captain Tylor is a great series. I highly recommend it.
Urusei Yatsura is one of my favorites. Everyone loves Lum.

Puni Puni Poemy is RIDICULOUS.
If you're looking for comedy, definitely check out Excel Saga - one of the funniest anime I have ever seen. Also, Cromartie High School. The episodes are only about 10 minutes each, but they're epic.

The whole show is a parody of just about every anime trope, quirk, genre, etc. It has to be savored to be enjoyed. It's fluffy, but deep.

No matter which language you watch it in, the girl talks ridiculously fast and high pitched.... the Japanese voice actress is WAY easier to tolerate than the English one, though. And just like nihon said, it's a parody of every type of anime. There's even an episode (on of the first few, I believe) that plays out like one of those Japanese love-simulation games. There's a lot of good comedy to be had from that series... you'll get used to the voice. I do believe it gets a bit tamer in later episodes, but not much

nihon

| | #36 posted May 16, 2008 at 11:04pm (EDT) |
No, it doesn't really get tamer. In fact, one of the last episodes was never shown on TV due to content.

monkeysmadness

| | #37 posted May 17, 2008 at 1:22am (EDT) |
By tamer, I meant less obnoxious Excelspeak.
I'm well aware of the "content" as the series progresses.
It is only logical that Puni Puni Poemy was the sequel.
