Eva will be showing at some theatres for one day only this month. Luckily theres one showing here in Houston.
The new Eureka 7 movie will be a fathom even, also showing for one day only, some time in sept., 24th i think.
I heard its more of an alternative version as opposed to a direct sequel, but yea i like it. I also like the art style. I think the same guy/chick? does the artwork on Overman King Gainer.
I have Overman in the backlog, looks great though. And yeah the movie "A Pocket full of Rainbows" is supposed to be an alternate version to the series, like you said. I dont mind though, I loved the Escaflowne movie, which is based on an alternate universe as well.
dude the escaflowne movie is the only thing i like, the show itself is garabage and probably my number one worst anime of all time, i actually saw the movie first and liked it thats why i bought the escaflowne perfect collection boxset
i have volumes 1,3,5 of gainer, ive watched one , but am looking for the missing pieces before i watch the rest, first dvd kicked ass though.
I love escaflowne, one of these days Im going to have to get it on DVD (I currently have it on cheap bootlegs). I also liked the movie a lot, probably like it more than the series as well. I thought it was brilliant and the music/sound is just plain awesome, specially if you watch it with DTS. Raxephon movie was better than the show as well. I doubt the Eureka 7 movie will top the show but one can hope.

Them's fightin' words. I can't think of any anime series that actually manages to succeed on so many levels as Escaflowne.
It manages to go into a lot of depth on some rather complex issues, unlike Evangelion, which wants you to think it's psychological, but really just pretends and doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of anything remotely intelligible.
The Escaflowne series has epic scale war as its backdrop, but it never forgets to let the viewers share the intimate moments of each of the individual characters.
In fact, I've yet to see ANY anime series with a more believable (and more importantly, DYNAMIC) cast of characters than those found in Escaflowne. Nearly every single character, major or minor, matures or grows in some way from the time the series starts to the time the series ends (or they get killed off). All of the characters also have a believable basis for acting the way they do at any given time during the series, whether it be jealousy, desire, anger, pity, worry, etc. Nothing feels forced.
Sega Genesis, you will be missed. May you reach heaven and
may God plug you into his own TV and play all your classics Himself.
I agree on that. Personally, Id take Escaflowne over most robot/mecha anime these days. The ending was fantastic, specially the movie ending with the feathers and the music...it doesnt get better than that. Escaflowne is a masterpiece in my eyes...and so is Last Exile.
recently picked up the new last exile thinpack - i'll get to watching it at some point. having a little too much fun with moon phase and strawberry marshmallow at the moment though.

Escaflowne is one of the most overrated pieces of garbage that I have ever scene.
And im scratching my head as to why anyone would like it, let alone call it a masterpiece.
The ending is fantastic alright, lets see:
- the dog main female character after lusting after the pretty boy finally comes to love the main guy character who has admirable traits, and then shes like well too bad im going back to my own world
- the brother of the main guy character dies, despite being truly a good guy; while the sister of the pretty boy gets off scot free although she is arguably one of the worst characters in the manga
- the merchant prince essentially gets rejected although he helped out quite a bit, and gets rejected for guess who the pretty boy
- in the end the pretty boy, has two princess wrapped around his fingers, had a kid who will become duke and done nothing to raise him, and he is without a doubt the least admirable of the group of main characters
- in the end all the main guy character has to show for is a demolished small kingdom that he has to rebuild
- lets not forget the duke, who took care of the child that was not his own, gets killed
honestly i think whoever came up with the show was in love with the pretty boy character, and just wanted his character to coast through the show, and completely favored him through out
aside from all of the above, one of the more important aspects of the show was only touched upon, the whole race of winged people is not very well explained , its almost like deus ex machina
- the art style on top of everything is very poor, every character has the exact same sharp pointed nose, that so big is suggests the french completely populated this magical world
and by the way the mecha aspect of escaflowne is almost secondary and you must be high, any of the following are superior mecha shows
Gundam Wing
Gundam Seed
Eureka 7
Full Metal Panic
Gravion (one of my personal favorites)
Macross
Dual
Gunparade March
Evagelion
Martian Successor Nadesico
pilot candidate
vandread
well pretty much the list that should be made is what mech shows are worse than escaflowne and thats a list about as long as the list of great french war heroes
as far as moonphase goes, what ive seen looks good

lol Huge spoilers BTW. If you want to let go of that set cml or my anime thread.
Im not big on discussing anime genres but well, the anime is called "Escaflowne" or ' Visions of Escaflowne' , the robot/mecha's name is "Escaflowne" so I think its fair to say its a mecha show.
of your list, in my opinion Escaflowne is much better or equal (some) than:
> Gravion (I recently started watching it...it is boring as hell. Saw the 1rst season normally and the 2nd on fast forward! Very average, kinda dissapointed in Masami Obari on this one)
> Dual
> Gunparade March (in which btw the mecha aspect is very 'secondary' and almost unimportant )
> Evagelion
> Martian Successor Nadesico (very good, i love it too)
> pilot candidate
> vandread (love it as well)
FMP, Eureka 7 are top faves up there with Escaflowne. I cant say anything about gundam though. Never seen it completely, Wing didnt caught my attention (probably never will) but Seed looks amazing...one of these days I might start it.
That I meant to say before (no Im not high) is that I think the mecha shows have been pretty bad lately, with some exceptions like Gurren Laggan (which is fudging awesome!).
Only expressing my opinion. I respect your opinion as well, not everyone likes the same thing. I for one didnt get what the whole Trinity Blood hype was about. Most people love it... I watched the whole thing, kinda enjoyed it ... but I probably wouldnt watch it again or highly recommend it.
hmmmm......... ultimately i think escaflowne is a morality play gone awry where characters of low merit gain the most or end up the best off (the sister was arguably one of the most evil characters/her brother was a rather shallow pretty boy who never really did much) and the truly good characters are up the worst (brother dies although he was always truly good/ main guy character loses his entire family, his kingdom is destroyed, the girl he loves finally says she loves him and then bounces, not to mention the duke/merchant dude)
plus the main feminine character is with out a doubt the most poorly written caricature ive every seen - the classic lusts after the good looking character, doesnt see people for their real value, and any realization of her mistakes are thrown out the window with her decision
thats cool not everyone can like the same stuff - i prefer harem thats why i like some of those other shows more than others
although i will say that TTGL made the ending unnecessarily sad, im still hoping for a new movie/ova or something where simon and yoko end up together
Gundam Seed I have to say is probably the single best mecha, and Gundam is the undisputed lord of Mecha, basically creating the genre along with macross, so i recommend at least wing and seed, although i like G gundam as well
and i like trinity blood it reminds of shows like outlaw star, trigun, and witch hunter robin all shows that i love
> although i will say that TTGL made the ending unnecessarily sad, im
> still hoping for a new movie/ova or something where simon and yoko
> end up together
I like the tragic endings. I enjoyed every min of Tengen Toppa, even the ending. Im kinda used to the protagonist not getting the girl ending....although in TTGL, Simon did get the girl (for a small period of time), just not the right girl! Yoko FTW!
Back on topic, Ive read some reviews about the Eureka 7 movie, supposed to be really good from what Ive read! Havent even heard of the Eva movie. Is it an alternate reality as well?

Both the main characters realize that she doesn't really belong there, and that even though they part, they will always have a bond. I don't think the ending was "fantastic" per se, but it was certainly better than any ending Gainax has ever done.
> - the brother of the main guy character dies, despite being truly
> a good guy;
He may have changed for the better towards the end of the series, but he still held some beliefs that the ends justify the means. He had some of the anger and rashness that his brother also had, and that is what finally led to his death.
> while the sister of the pretty boy gets off scot free
> although she is arguably one of the worst characters in the manga
She has the most complete and distinct change of all the characters in the series by the end of the show, though. She's a COMPLETELY different person than at the beginning
> - the merchant prince essentially gets rejected although he helped
> out quite a bit, and gets rejected for guess who the pretty boy
Wasn't it the merchant who left her and not the other way around? Said he would come back when he was better suited for the gig.
> - in the end the pretty boy, has two princess wrapped around his fingers,
> had a kid who will become duke and done nothing to raise him, and
> he is without a doubt the least admirable of the group of main characters
It doesn't really go into a whole lot of detail about what happens after Hitomi leaves, but "pretty boy's" number one priority seemed to be taking care of his sister now that he had found her, and was no longer as concerned with the princess.
> - in the end all the main guy character has to show for is a demolished
> small kingdom that he has to rebuild
As well as a better understanding of himself, what it means to be a ruler, and a redemption from his hatred of his brother. And a loyal catgirl.
> - lets not forget the duke, who took care of the child that was not
> his own, gets killed
That was by his own choice so that his "not really his" son would know just how important the decision he made previously was.
And happy endings for everyone only happen in fairy tales.
> aside from all of the above, one of the more important aspects of

What more did you need to know? Why the winged people existed in the first place? You don't question the existence of catgirls, so why question the existence of the winged folks? And what about that dolphin man who showed up twice? Didn't you have a burning desire to know why he existed?
Sega Genesis, you will be missed. May you reach heaven and

so basically you are of the belief if a mass murdering child rapist had a change of heart forgive and forget i take it - judging by your comment regarding the sister
the brother wasnt without flaws, but given the slim pickens he was one of the more just characters
actually the main character was disappointed , she kind of just drops it on him all at once, you know i finally realize i love but im bout to bounce laterz
no actually he was the one who said he would wait for and hope she would look at him and not at the swash buckler
what pretty boys priorites are doesnt change the fact he is without a doubt the best off character
the catgirl was annoying and he never shone an inkling to her, and those things he gained are rather superficial gains
so you are saying its fine a worthy character gets killed because he did it by his own choice
regarding the wing folks, they were ultimately the key to the whole series, so comparing them to cat girls is kind weak point
and regarding your last comment, give or take Escaflowne is a fairy tale, happy endings do technically occur but its based on your preferences, imo the pretty boy and his sister had great endings, i just thought they were the least deserving, not to mention the female main characters/and princess were fairly neutral, the only ones with a bad ending were the most worthy characters, so this blanket statement of what happens in fairy tales is moot
and btw it seems fairy tales are not your strong suit, in fact that majority of well known fairy tales including the most of the disney tales are in fact dark and disturbing , many not having great endings
@kevin , man you sadist, what exactly do you watch, the majority of shows end up with the character getting the girl, and seeing simon in that old form alone with a tail less rate was just a shame
you know a good author/creator should be able to balance tradegy and happiness, arugably the most liked character is killed like on the first box set, yoko ends up as an old hag alone, simon ends up as a husk alone, and Nina well shes dead
and really YOu have not heard of EVa 1.1, its going to be a series of movies that supposedly give the show /series a better ending, i thought everyone had heard of them
kirauzumaki wrote: > and really YOu have not heard of EVa 1.1, its going to be a series

of course we've heard of them... but retroconning is a pretty poor way to "fix" things.

lol, well I can say that it happens a lot at least. Its either he doesn't get the girl or the relationship never gets anywhere aside from a few blushes/stares that you know somethings going to happen but it doesnt and the show ends. But i guess its not that usual in Harem.
I dont know about sadist, but Id rather watch a tragic ending than a beautiful wedding->they lived happily ever after ending. I mean, I like the romance but I'm not a little girl. And I agree, seeing the
yea ive they just left his ending ambigous id been more fine with it, i mean i dont always need a perfect ending , although i prefer it
problem with eva is that they did it before the manga ended, i wanna say i think its still ongoing, and so the show became extremely popular but of course couldnt have the ending they wanted, so all they are left with is doing this kind of stuff unless they just make one solid series when the manga is truly done
