GameTZ.com Newsletter
#22

Happy New Year from GameTZ!

This is one of the best times of year for trading. Most of us got some games as gifts over the holidays. In the next few weeks, we'll be done with them and ready to trade them for other games we wanted, but haven't gotten yet. Now is a good time to update your wanted and available lists and check for matches to see what offers and trades you can make.

This newsletter contains a description of all the changes and enhancements that have been made to GameTZ in the last month.

o What's New at GameTZ?

What's New at the GameTZ?

o Rudeness Crackdown

Two Months ago, in newsletter #20, I talked about trying to deal with the problem of rudeness on GameTZ. In late December, after seeing continued bad attitudes from a handful of users, I decided it was time to get more serious about dealing with this problem.

I have now banned several users from GameTZ who have show themselves to be habitually rude to other users. They have shown no sign of changing their ways and in some cases, seem to made a sport of getting restricted (some where proud of their restrictions).

I'm not happy that I've had to take such drastic steps, but I feel that enough is enough. I'm no longer going to tolerate habitually bad behavior from such users. I hope that these bans will send a message to other users who have frequently been rude. I hope they will change their ways. If they do not they will also be removed. I feel it is
reasonable to expect GameTZ members to treat each other with respect.

My impression is that the rudeness from a minority of users has been setting a negative tone and disrupting trading on the site. This also drives away some new traders. I believe that in the long run, these harsh measures will pay off with an improved atmosphere that promotes trading.

o Our First User of the Month

In happier news, we have our first winner for the new "User of the Month" contest.

January's user of the month is: Helen Nie (user "worshipsf"). Helen has only been on GameTZ for 5 months, but has traded with 89 other traders. Her ratings show what a great trader she is. Her friendliness throughout the site has already become legendary.

We are honored and pleased to have worshipsf on the site and we're happy to give her the first User of the Month award.

Thank you, Helen.

Also, thanks go out to our moderator Ramsey for creating and running the User of the Month contest. Everything went very smoothly and it looks like this contest will be a great addition to the site for years to come. Stay tuned for Ramsey's posts in the General forum for next month's contest.

o GameTZ's "Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory" Server

Over the past few weeks, some GameTZ users have been playing "Castle Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory" together on a game server running from GameTZ (et.gametz.com).

Enemy Territory is a freely available, full-featured, multi-player, first-person-shooter game for PC. It has been around for several months now. You can download it (and a required patch) for free off a variety of download sites. It's a large download (over 250MB), but it's worth it.

We have generally been playing in the evenings and on weekends. Please join us, if you're interested.

For more information, see our web-page about it: http://et.gametz.com

o Users on the Site NOW

You may have noticed a *idea* icon next to some users (in Forums or on their User page). This icon appear when a user has been on the site in the last 10 minutes. If you hover your mouse over the icon, it will show you the exact time they were on. If you click this light-bulb icon, you'll see a complete list of all the users who have been on the site in
the last 10 minutes.

o Review System Coming

I've began work on a Review System for GameTZ. The goal is to allow GameTZ users to add their own reviews to GameTZ's system. They will be linked to search results and our listings (similar to how GameTZ links other site's reviews now). The idea is that we can all have a little fun writing and reading each other's reviews while we build a shared database of game information for our mutual benefit.

I'm just putting the finishing touches on it now. I expect to be able to release it in the next couple weeks.
