#25

This month's focus is on new users. I've made some improvements to how new accounts are processed that should help get them on track.

Contents

o New Accounts
o Trader's Oath
o Welcome Forum
o GameTZ User of the Month

New Accounts

I've changed the way new accounts are handled by the system. New traders are now required to complete three tasks before their accounts become fully active and their free trial subscription is started.

The general idea is to get new traders off to a running start, so that their initial experience will be positive and beneficial.

The first task is creating 10 listings. From the statistics, it's clear that the more listings an account has, the more offers that trader gets and the more trades they make. In the past, we've seen a common problem with new accounts - they have few or no listings. So, we hope this task will start new traders out better.

The second task is to take the Trader's Oath. This is a new eight section set of basic common-sense guidelines for traders. Each section has to be agreed to separately to complete the oath. The idea is to give them a quick guide to the most important aspects of being a successful trader and to get a commitment from them to follow these guidelines.

Finally, when the above two tasks are complete, the new user is then guided to create an introductory post in the Welcome forum. Most of the post is automatically generated, listing their items and giving a little basic information about them. At the bottom they are asked to give a comment in their own words.

Trader's Oath

Although the Trader's Oath is primarily targeted at new users, any trader can take it. Here's the link:

http://gametz.com/Oath.html

It consists of 8 sections which cover the various aspect of being a successful trader: Honesty, Responsibility, Courtesy, Speed, Initiative, Fairness, Packing, Sending-First.

Most of it is obvious stuff, but it doesn't hurt to impress upon people the importance of it all. For regular users, it can also serve as a helpful reminder.

Taking the Oath means making a commitment to following these important guidelines.

Welcome Forum

I invite you to check out the Welcome forum. It is now open to all subscribers. You will see a steady stream of new trader intro posts, where their initial listings and a comment from them are shown.

This is your chance to meet some new traders, maybe be one of the first people to get a crack at their fresh listings, and most importantly give them a warm welcome.

The GUM for May is maximXL. There are a lot of great things to say about Steve. He's made almost 400 trades with us and has a great reputation for being friendly and helpful around the site. He has been an active member of the Name Tribunal for nearly a year now. The Name Tribunal is a select group of fellow traders who work behind the scenes to carefully keep all the names for listings consistent and accurate.

I personally appreciate all the comments and suggestions he's made in the Site_Feedback forum over the years.

But, the coolest thing about Steve is that he's a movie star. He was in the movie "Starship Troopers". Check out his Bio page image for the picture! *smile*

Thank you.
