I have a complete copy of Wii Sports (plus wii case w/ custom printed insert) that I would like to trade straight up for one of the following similarly overpriced items (in order of preference):

1 - MUSHA (Genesis) - complete and in very good to excellent condition

2 - Tech Romancer (Dreamcast) - complete and in very good to excellent condition

3 - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Nintendo DS) - complete and in good or better condition

4 - Discworld 2: Mortality Bytes (Playstation) - complete and in good or better condition

5 - Klonoa (Playstation) - complete and in good or better condition

6 - Strategy Guide for Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete on Playstation - in good or better condition (this one's a longshot, I know)

7 - Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Genesis) - complete and in very good to excellent condition.

8 - Warsong (Genesis) - complete and in very good to excellent condition

Will add more if I think of more.

Would also consider trading for a Ranma 1/2 Season 4, 5 or 6 thinpak DVD boxset (but only if you got it on the cheap). For one of these I'd throw in Link's Crossbow Training (new/sealed) too.

Currently only trading for the above listed items, please do not ask me to check your list or whether I am willing to sell - the answer to both those questions at the moment is no.

When the hell did the Lunar 2 guide become rare?

I nabbed mine the same time I bought my Vanguard Bandits guide, both new, for under $30 and they were ALL OVER eBay, couldnt of been more than a couple years ago.

pretty much the only time I use the word "rare" when discussing a game is when it's made by those british chaps that Nintendo used to own.

Yes, but then I'd be screwing someone over when I sell them the game.

I'd prefer to trade it to someone who got one of the above items on the cheap so neither of us are losing much of anything.

not at all.

Here's your scenario:
I come across an expensive item relatively cheaply.
Man A spends too much on my item.
I take that and spend too much on Man B's expensive item.
Man A still paid too much even if I got a good deal on Man B's item by using the proceeds of my item.

Here's mine:
I come across an expensive item relatively cheaply.
Man A comes across another expensive item relatively cheaply.
We trade and we both are happy to get items for cheap.

My prices are quite clearly listed - they're just not in dollars, but in several foreign currencies such as Moonwalkers and Discworlds.

By valuing this game at 25+ you aren't really doing what you propose by giving this cheaply to someone with one of your items. A 25+ item for a 25+ item is still the same without the middleman involving actual money regardless of how 'cheaply' one may have obtained this.

Yes, if you are lucky, you can find it in store. Not every gamestop has them in stock, in fact i'd bet most of them probably do not because of the people who buy them up to take them to ebay/amazon for profit.

I obtained this item cheaply. My assumption is that the person with an item I seek likely also obtained their cheaply.

So trading one item obtained for $15 that regularly goes for $40 for another item obtained for $15 that goes for $40 essentially means both of us get what we want for just $15.

Knowing the people here, 90+ percent of them would have obtained the stuff I'm after pretty cheaply.

Yeah, but that's an absurd assumption. You're trying to find some sort of excuse that enables you to ask market value (GASP) for your game, but there isn't one (and there's nothing to be ashamed of).

Right, except that most people don't get a very good/complete copy of Tech Romancer for $15.

Would you turn down someone who spent, say, $30 on their mint/complete Tech Romancer on the basis that they'd be overpaying for Wii Sports?

Is it really such an absurd assumption?

The fact that "Find of the Week" thread is continually at the top of the Vintage_Games forum, not to mention the popularity of the Hot_Deals forum is pretty clear evidence that many people here on GameTZ are often finding stuff at well below "market value," even today.

>> So trading one item obtained for $15 that regularly goes for $40

Perhaps not today - but pretty much all the items on this list (with the possible exception of Warsong) were relatively cheap items just a couple of years ago - even on eBay. In fact, I do remember picking up that copy of Tech Romancer that eventually found its way to you as part the "Two Tubs of Dreamcast" trade for about $10 at gamestop or another local store a few years back.

2 or 3 years ago, you couldn't GIVE a greatest hits copy of Final Fantasy 7 away to people here. Now I see people asking $70 plus for them.

I just don't want to take $40 from someone when the cost to me is $15. If I wouldn't ordinarily mind something like $18 or $20 for a game that cost me $15 (in fact, I made a couple offers to people I trust for Wii Sports in that range before I made this post) - however, since the "market value" of Wii Sports is in the $40 shipped range, there is a great risk that selling to just anyone at that $18-$20 price would simply lead to them turning around and flipping the game for double profit, and I don't feel that it's appropriate to abuse someone's generosity like that.

>

If someone spent $30 on Tech Romancer, I'd hope that at that price they'd want to keep it.

Nevertheless, no, I would not turn them down because although they already paid an inflated price for it, someone else received the monetary benefit. They bought the game knowing full well the price was inflated.

The "ripping off" as it were has already been done. I don't like selling things for massively inflated prices, as I believe it's taking advantage of people. But I think that trading inflated item for inflated item seems reasonable enough to me - there's no being ashamed about it at all.

And lastly, going by current cheapest amazon prices - trading tech romancer for wii sports would be "trading up" as wii sports is about $40 and tech romancer is $31 something.

Had you been here when rleav posted that thread, you'd have seen what I meant. if I recall correctly it was something like $400 each for the wiis plus an additional $80 each for wii sports, which was higher than even ebay was going at the time. And he basically said as much that the only reason he posted was to piss people off.

Anyway, we both appear to have a strong dislike for scalping games - I hope you keep trading here and become a valued and respected member of the site & forums. Goodness knows we could use a few more folks that aren't focused solely on profit profit profit.
