Nice review, but this game is nowhere near an A+ title IMO. The levels are EXTREMELY restrictive, character animations are jerky at best, and the fighting engine needs a bit of work. Compared to God of War this game is nowhere near as polished. The bosses remind me of corniness from Metal Gear Solid games, and although the voice acting is ok in some parts, it's unforgivably bad in others. The graphics are nice, the soundtrack is ok, but this game isn't the killer app ps3 needed, a rental at best, and I honestly don't see what the big hype about this game is/was.... I'd rate it around a B- based on other games in the genre released in the past few years, most notably Devil May Cry 4 (which wasn't all that good, but has a much better fighting engine and more well thought out boss battles), God of War II (much better story, voice acting, gameplay depth, and the influence for much of this game I am imagining), and even Assassin's Creed (while having a totally broken combat system, the expansive environments and extremely polished overall feel of the game made it a bit more enjoyable than this). Hopefully, if they make a sequel they'll revamp the engine to HS and not use the ragdoll physics the havok engine incorporates. With a bit more development time I think this game could have been the killer app for ps3, alas it's not. |
