If your Santa decides to not send you something, then they automatically forfeit their subtime bond.

and you have to sign up at the site because it allows things to be more organized and because when it comes to pairing people up, it's all automated. Cygnus has a thing set in place so that it'll randomly select your partner when it comes time to assign them

kzn - well, the person who decided to cover however much subtime for another will have their subtime returned to them.

So, if I covered your 8 weeks (or however many) and Joe Schmo decides to not send you something, I would get the subtime I used to cover for you returned. At least that's how I figure it.

Partner matching is automated through the website. You have to signup there.

This is why we are recommending tracking. In that case, your scenario could only happen with an international partner.

A few things...

1. I shouldn't have to create an account over there to sign up. Just make it so that I can type in my name and be done. You'll be able to verify real people with their bond over here anyhow.

2. The sign-up site says "If you do not have at least a bronze star or you have any BTRs, you are not eligible to sign-up." That isn't what you said here. You clearly said here that everyone could sign up if they put up the bond.

3. What I really think you should do is just take names here and put those names into some system (even that one) yourself manually once the bond has been made.

I'll sign up as soon as some of that is resolved...

John - 1 & 3) the system there asks for your mailing address, what some of your wants are, etc. so it'd be hard for us to do that just by taking the names from here.

2) Cygnus probably changed what he has here from what he originally planned and just forgot to update it on his page.

Well, I don't think those things are necessarily required. Have the people put their address in their Bio here -- and our wants should be OBVIOUS here. Or they can give their address to you. Again, I think it is lame to have to sign up at some other site just to submit for the Secret Santa. Just my opinion.

John - I've updated the site to address your second point.

I don't think it is too much to expect people to sign up on the other site. Having Lynx and I signing up for everyone would be too much work. I created this system to make the SS easy to run.

I thought the "wants" field was redundant, too, but the last time we did this a lot of people wanted it. Just put "Check my GameTZ list" in your field, if you'd like.

Easier for you, not us. It will take you all of thirty seconds to signup on the site. If that's too much time for you, how would you find the time to shop for and send a gift?

I'd have no trouble getting a gift for someone. It isn't about the amount of time. It's just that I don't want to sign up at another site just to register for a Secret Santa here. No biggie. Others are welcome to do as they please, of course -- I just don't currently plan to do it. *shrug*

With my luck I'll get matched to someone who already owns everything except the

No one should be spending any more than $20 on the gift. If someone has only $50 items on their list, you are free to get something else.

Maybe the subtime bond wasn't such a smart idea after all. If anyone has any other ideas on how we can guarantee that you won't be ripped off (or get something that you can't use), feel free to let us know.

It seems to me, that short of a financial committment or maybe getting Bill to ban people who dont send, there's really no way to guarantee everyone will send, and send something appropriate. <bitterness>Hell, last time, the person who got my name was a mod, and I got squat.</bitterness>

It's a good idea, but I think 8 weeks is a little steep *wry smile* , of course, anything below that isn't that much if you get ripped off as well.

I think the subtime bond is a great idea actually -- I have no problems with that at all -- just so you are clear on where I stand. And I think 8/16 are decent numbers actually. Maybe 8/12 just to make it easier for some newer people, but I'm not sure that is even necessary (i.e. 16 might be fine).

I can't do that. How about we at least restrict it to US and Canada?

Re: amount of bond
8 weeks subtime = $5
We are asking for a bond of $5 against a $10-15 gift. I think that is more than fair.

That's a very naive way of looking at things *dead face*
