Well I just got myself a brand new 360 elite, and I've got some questions.

My router and modem are in a different part of the house, so I've got wireless. I really don't want to pay the $100 for the official wireless adapter so I can use Xbox Live. I read somewhere that using 2 routers will work. I connect one of them to my computer, which is wirelessly connected to the internet, bridge the connections between the two, and then connect my 360. Will that work? If anyone can go into more detail on that, it'd be appreciated.

Will any USB keyboard work with it? Like when I'm ripping music and typing in the song names etc.

Connecting it with my PC, is it really worth it? I just looked on www.xbox.com/pcsetup and I've got to download Zune software and such. Seems like too much of a hassle.

Any kind of help is appreciated
Thanks!
-SJ

Edit: Can you rip DVDs to the hard drive? I'm in the video tab, but the only things that are highlighted are computer and console, it won't let me select the 'disc' option.

No, it won't let you rip DVDs to your hard drive. This isn't a DVD copying machine... it's a video game machine. As for your question about wireless... don't know. Hooking it up to your PC isn't too much of a hassle, it all just depends on what you plan on doing with it. I have mine connected, but I really don't do much with that other than to make pics on my PC my 360 background.

Mmk, thanks. I thought my brother said he had a few movies ripped onto his hard-drive, so that's why I was wondering.

Well, I guess it can be done if the machine is modded, though I wouldn't recommend it.

You can transfer music from your music device/CDs to the 360 HDD I believe, but I don't think you can copy movies over. And yes, a USB keyboard allows you to type things in, at least for messages. You can probably pick up an official 360 wireless adapter for around $50 on GameTZ. Using two routers seems like such a hassle.

His wasn't modded, so I dunno if I heard wrong or he was just saying crap.

And it wouldn't be hard at all to hook up the routers, I'm gonna try that sometime.

You can pay to rent some movies and TV shows. They are stored on the harddrive for 48 hours I think, maybe that's what he meant?

Yeah it does. Well, it reads my DVD movie backups anyway.

Mine doesn't read any, and I've tried at least 6 different brands. * frown *
I hate having to watch movies on the PS2.

That's really weird. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm using the HD-DVD add-on. Although, I'm pretty sure before I got it my backups played on the 360 itself. That's really strange.

All of my 'backups' play perfectly on the standard player. Plays DVD-R and DVD+R. While I usually watch my DVDs on the computer the 360 is my only other DVD player and works quite well. I don't understand why you couldn't transfer movie files from the computer to the 360 with no modding or anything.

Anyways, welcome to the super amazing 360 club!!

You don't need to use the Zune software. I use Windows Media Player 11 to connect to my 360 and it works great. I also have the media center set up, but I don't use it.

My 360 also works with DVD+R/DVD-R. I've just been using OfficeMax's store brand.

I'll have to try that, I use Windows Media Player 11 also. Do I just connect computer/360 via ethernet and go into music ---> from computer or what?

All you have to do is have WMP open and make sure it's allowing its connection to the 360. If you're using wireless then it will do without an ethernet cable, but if you're running off an ethernet cable then I guess that's what you do. Go into music, select the computer, and your music should be on there.

Make sure your not encoding them with anything like Divx. I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 and they all run fine on my 360. It's not a launch system though so that might make a difference.

I bought mine used in July, no idea if it's a launch system but I don't think it is (I think in the ad on craigslist the guy had said he bought it last October).
I've burned movies with DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn and sometimes Nero and I never burn higher than 2x, could that possibly be the problem?
I have tried Verbatim, Phillips, Smartbuy, Memorex and NewEgg brand DVD-Rs

Also the old Xbox had like 3 different DVD Drives, and the Thompson one was easily the worst (it didn't read CD-Rs and lots of people had problems getting games to run after awhile). Does the Xbox360 have different DVD drives as well?

Okay, I've got a couple more.

The dumbass that I am, I think I might've lost/thrown away the receipt. Do I need that for the Microsoft warranty if I've got a problem?

and

Is the hard drive removable easily/without voiding the warranty?

i think you do need the receipt for the warranty unless they might be able to go by the manufacturer's date . the hdd is very easy to remove. theres a button and just lift it up. it does not void the warranty. i also got the elite and they are better then the older white ones b/c they have that heat sink in it which makes it cooler. i dont think you will have a problem(unless there is physical damage involved.) happy gaming * yes *

I'm 99% sure you don't need the receipt. I think they look it up by serial number.

When I sent in my 360 for repair, I didn't need to have the receipt. In fact, I lost it way back, and it wasn't a big deal for Microsoft to pull u the information of my purchase via the 360's serial number,
