It is of deepest regret that I inform you all that yesterday evening I was informed, via IM, by one of mackey's friends (itsbeingconfidant69) that he, who we all know as Mark Mackey, is now in that permanent hallucinatory mind fudge we call heaven. The details are still vague, but they are trickling in slowly, so either Chad or myself will fill you in or answer any questions you may have on what we know presently regarding the situation. It may also be fitting to use this thread for your personal eulogy purposes, but please be considerate and tasteful in this time of tremendous loss to the GameTZ community.

Mark Mackey: forever frozen...but forever a gold subscriber in our hearts. He will be missed.

Update #1: Mackey was apparently involved in a car accident on his way to a casino, as itsbeingconfidant69 tells me. Mackey had called her and told her her was on his way to the casino with a friend. Another person (a woman with no identification) was in the car and was also killed.

Update #2: Mackey passed the GED before his untimely death. For details, refer a few posts below.

Update #3: It is official. Mackey's official time of death was 3:30AM on Saturday, April 5th.

I was a little shocked about this as well. Naturally at first I thought it was a prank. But if you remember, a few years ago Mackey gave me his number so I could call and leave the bones rap on his answering machine. So I dug through my files on my computer and found it. I called and reached his mother Kimberly. She is still grieving, of course. I gave my condolences on behalf of all gametz, telling her that a group of strangers really cared for her son and that more people than she realizes will miss him. They are running a tox report on mackey right now but his mother seemed to believe he was living sober. They still haven't identified the passenger. As you may be aware, he recently took his GED and just yesterday, post posthumously they received his scores and he did pass. I asked his mother if I could collect money for flowers or a charity in his honor, but she said that he would want us to keep our money, that would be his wishes.

She started getting upset so she asked me to call back tomorrow.

RIP mackey.

Mackey had passed his GED without his reaping any of its benefits -- without his knowing he had passed. This is one of GameTZ's worst tragedies. May God help us all through this horrible time of grief.

That's unbelievable.

I never really got along with Mackey that well but I'm really saddened by this.

That's two GTZ'ers in a couple weeks, it sucks.

The accident occurred over the weekend, so it might be a little while before an official report is made.

Mackey was a great guy and if this is true, then it sucks that he's gone. However, I just checked The Gazette's website, which is the newspaper for Cedar Rapids, and haven't seen any obits or anything like that.

Edit: like Noltillian, I'm calling shenanigans on this one until I hear something official about it. This topic was made by the same guy who pretended to be someone working for Perverted Justice, so who's to say this isn't just another one of El_Hefe's schemes?

Im more inclined to believe this is bullcrap. Sounds Like Chad and MS wanna make this up because SOMEONE did die, and they wanna bring a joke into this at a time like this, it really isnt funny. Why would you bring up stuff like him getting his GED and adding other stuff that shouldnt even matter if the person died. I think this is lame and you both should be restricted for disrespecting jack overbaugh and the rest of GTZers by making a joke.

If this is true, then you better have some REAL proof, because Chad isnt a reliable source.

Post #3 is really all I need to prove that this is BS.

If this was supposed to be anything other then a joke, I could only assume it would mean Mackey contacted Mikey and/or Chad and told them to do this, and its his "death" for GTZ or something, like maybe hes actually just not coming back to the site anymore.

whats sad is that too many people on gametz are always fudging around. its like the boy who cried wolf. you guys dont know when to be serious so the community constantly has to be on guard and call bullcrap on everything. you shouldn't need to provide proof someone is dead.

i pray it isn't true, but if it is RIP Mackey. i didnt really know him but he seemed like a decent guy.

I denounce all of you. Not because of the subject matter, as I really could care less if its real or fake because 1) I don't know him personally and 2) I don't have a pending trade with him, but because it's a pretty crapty joke. I thought you clowns were better than this.

It's sad that you are all playing this down so much. Mark had a cardre of good friends that he wanted to continue his existance in the case he passed. The title of mark mackey is like that of Captain America. When the original hero passes, his loyal sidekicks take on the mantle. For shame, all of you.
