And are they a different kind/brand than you wore as a kid?

Yes. My parents bought me Spalding shoes from Wal Mart growing up, which, in middle school, is pretty much the worst thing ever.

I now wear anything from Chaco (awesome sandals that last a lifetime) to New Balance (trail running/walking shoes) to Sperry (boat shoes) to (at times even) sweet Wal Mart shoes.

New Balance's suck. They are the only running shoes to ever give me shin splints.

On topic - I used to wear Nike's growing up (usually an Air Max model) but now I wear one of the many pairs of Adidas Superstars that I have.

I never stuck to a certain brand of shoes or anything growing up. The concept of that seems kinda weird. *raspberry*

Anyway, I have a pair of Dr. Martens "convertible" boots and some Fender canvas casual type shoes

I usually wear New Balance sneakers since they helped with my heel spurs. For dress shoes I have a pair of Rockports and Dockers.

I tend to wear Airwalk and Sketchers -- slip-ons -- so, pretty much a skateboard shoe -- which is what I wore as a "kid" a lot also (along with Vanns).

However, I've really been unimpressed with the quality of both Airwalks and Sketchers lately when it comes to these sorts of shoes. If I could find a decent no-lace "tennis shoe" from someone else, I would certainly switch to it. Part of my problem is that I don't buy shoes made from animal products -- so leather is out -- which also limits my choices.

To be fair, I have some Sketcher brand dress shoes that I've worn for years that have held up very well. It's just the flat/skateboard shoes (which is what they used to be known for) from Airwalk and Sketchers that are sucking these last few years.

I didn't really have a specific brand when I was youngin' but I tended to get basketball shoes. Now I pretty much wear sandals exclusively unless there is more than an inch of snow on the ground or I'm running or something. I have been buying these onitsuka tiger shoes lately, great for running but ironically couldn't be worse for playing basketball in.

I have a bunch of different pairs of shoes, and I enjoy buying shoes like a women.

For regular everyday shoes I have a pair of DC's, a pair of Vans, a pair of American Eagle sneakers, a pair of Starbury's, and like 4 pairs of flip flops (even though I hate wearing flip flops)

For dress shoes I have a pair of Doc Martens and a pair of Rockports

I also have a pair of New Balance running shoes.

I have three pairs of footwear that I wear regularly. I will describe them below.

When it's hot out, I wear HEMP RAINBOW SANDALS.

When it's anything but hot out, and even sometimes when it IS hot out but I opt to stay indoors (happens often), I wear SLIPPERS.

When I'm playing basketball, I wear a pair of Lebron's shoes (I don't know which) because I love him and they're really comfortable.

Edit: Oh, and when I was a kid I wore basketball shoes almost exclusively. Times change, so does footwear!!

I now wear New Balance, Adidas and Sketchers only because even though they cost more, they're more comfortable and last a whole lot longer.

Grew up wearing chuck taylor canvas, but now that I'm older (and fatter) canvas shoes are hell on my arches because of no support.

I've been wearing Merrill breathable boots for years and years - year around comfort

During the spring/summer/fall when I want to really treat my feets nicely, I wear Teva Omium's. Strechy, uber-comfortable, and airy to the feets.

Well I used to wear New Balance all the time because they are pretty much the only manufacturer of shoes for people with super wide feet.Yet a year or two ago I found that DC and DVS make very comfortable shoes and they just happen to be wide enough for me so that's what I've stuck with recently. On the other hand, If I have to dress up, I go with Bostonians.

Grubby Teva sandals with a couple of thousand miles on them most of the time.

North Face day hikers (true shoes) that were factory seconds given to me when I need to "dress up" and go to town/preschool.

Vasque Sundowners (with my sandals attached to my pack) when we go into the backcountry.
