If you can wait until mid summer prices will be dropping like crazy. Sony is dropping their prices I believe by 25 percent or more. Because of this everyone else will have to lower theirs to compete.

I've never really liked anything Philips. My parents had two crap out in 6 months. And if I'm not mistaken, Philips makes LG, so I won't buy anything LG other than cell phones.

Westinghouse's LVM series been a popular pick. Off-brand, but their older models are pretty good quality.

The LVM37W3 does 1080p, 37", $800++ from Newegg. Only thing it doesn't have is a TV tuner.

I love how loser companies are getting around the ATSC tuner requirement by calling them "monitors" instead of TVs. heh.

Element sucks. I had one and had to return it because of a dead pixel after a week not to mention the poor picture. Try to get a sharp, sony samsung or toshiba.

Black Friday deals are rarely as good as they seem. They usually do the deals on the lower-end TVs because the people that line up at Black Friday sales thinking they are getting some super-deal on an HDTV tend to not know much about them.

Seriously. Not worth the wait.

Last time someone here wrote about what a steal they got on a Black Friday TV, I linked to OneCall selling the same thing for the same price with free in-home delivery within 2 weeks of Black Friday. heh.

It's an interesting experience; I went with my Dad for the first time this past Thanksgiving.

They're not terribly great deals, but it's not like you're getting ripped off either; nobody's going to be offering 40" LCD TVs for $200 anytime soon if that's what you're holding out for. But the atmosphere was pretty nice, despite the cold. You meet some nice people who are just looking to get in on a deal. Besides, what else is there to do beyond getting sick on turkey that weekend?

If you're in the market for something, be it a TV or a game, BF's a pretty unique buying experience, if probably not worth repeating over and over.

I might disagree on some of the HDTVs being offered, but that's fine.

I'm not talking about holding out for a better deal. I'm talking about spending money wisely when making an expensive purchase -- and not thinking that just because it is a Black Friday sale that it is a great deal. Black Friday is all about marketing, people. It isn't like those stores decide to do us a favor that day and lose a lot of money...

> Besides, what else is there to do
> beyond getting sick on turkey that weekend?

Don't get me wrong. I've done Black Friday at 5am the last two years. But I buy real loss leaders. Often times Christmas gifts and such. I just wouldn't usually recommend buying an HDTV that way in 90+% of the cases.

Most Stores Have Flyers a few Days Prior To Black Friday With The deals they will be Having, so it`s as simple as getting one of these and doing a Little resarch Online to see if it`s a Good TV or Not before Buying.

Yes, I Know. And I Am Telling You That After Doing The Research Then You Should Discover That It Probably Isn't A TV That You Should Be Buying And/Or Isn't As Good A Deal As You'd Think.

They Sell TVs To People That DON'T Do Their Research -- Not The Other Way Around.

This is a not a bragging topic Dougie!

What's the importance of HDMI and Composite or whatever?

Should I look for one with lots of those cause I got a crapload of stuff hooking up to the TV (right now some of them have to go through one another to get to the TV)

HDMI is the best connection you can get for an HD input. It has both digital audio (surround sound) and hd digital picture in one cable. You want lots of hdmi ports on your tv. Composite is your basic yellow rca jack and carries analog video, this would be for vcrs and older inputs (psones, nes, etc). Component is red, green, blue rca connections and is also analog like the yellow composite. component is the best analog connection most tvs have (aside from VGA maybe which is for computer inputs) and it carries hd picture only. You'll probably want at least one component and composite jack, but it all depends on how much you're hooking into your tv.

So component also delivers HD picture, but without the sound and stuff? ANd I suppose composite is only important if I got a bunch of the old school electronics?

Yeah You Definitely Want To Use HDMI If You Can (For 360 / PS3 Or Any DVD Plyer That Have It)It`s Also Alot Aicer Looking Ao Have Just One Wire For Both Audio And Video.

That Same One i posted ABove It has Actually 5 Composite Inputs Not 2 So That shold Be More Than Enough For Everything(Like Older Stuff Without HD OutPuts) In Addition to The 2 HDMI and 2 Component

HDMI-Best available. Combines digital sound and video in one cable. Used with PS3's, Elite 360's, some DVD players, etc.
Component-Analog signal, second best. Can get up to 720p for the most part. Red, blue, and green cables, and then other red and white cables are used for sound. Used with the Wii, PS2, 360, PS3, etc.
VGA-Arguably the second best, tied with component. Analog. Used for computer monitors, mostly, but HDTVs usually have this port. Uses on cable for video, and then another one or two(depending on the hookup) for audio. Used with the 360, monitors, etc.
S-video-Analog. 1 video cable, and then a red and white one for sound. Used with older consoles, PSone, N64, Saturn, etc.
Composite-The worst. Analog. 1 yellow video cable, red and white ones for sound. Worst quality. Used with pretty much every console.

While we're on the subject, I'm looking for any GOOD TV that would fit in a 60 inch space. Price must be below 2600.

I was looking into this 52 inch Samsung (don't know the model), and it looked really nice for about 2200. Plus, I actually saw how it looked, which is a definite plus when I'm buying a TV. Some of the other HDTVs there looked really washed up compared to this one.
