Also if you have Zonealarm it prevents you from going online.

I really, really doubt that Windows Update caused this. If WU caused the loss of Firefox settings at all, there would be a huge uproar about it on the interwebz.

Don't think it was the update, but Foxmarks is the bomb to preventing this or letting you use your bookmarks on other PC's.

As for the Windows Update, I think it caused an issue with ZoneAlarm, which would result with you unable of going online. I don't think it did anything to Firefox though.

I personally still don't think it is related to Windows Updates in any way.
The guy in the other thread obviously has no idea what he is doing (or he wouldn't have thought that booting to a previous state of Windows would have any effect at all on his FF bookmarks).
So, I think it is more just coincidence.

theres a way to recover your bookmarks, but i forgot how i did it...lots of google searching though
