Looks like we should do this to keep down the forum clutter, so bear with me on the updates. Post info as it comes out. Italicized titles denote exclusivity to their console.

this is kinda not-officially-announced-yet but nintendo is coming out with essentially a wiimote sensor enhancer, to move closer to 1-to-1 movement.

I find it kinda funny that M$ didn't have any new game announcements(FFXIII isn't a new game, so it doesn't count). Isn't E3 supposed to be where you announce something new and great looking to cause hype until it comes out the following year?

Won't be surprised if at Nintendo's on some screen thing: "Mother 1 + 2 + 3 for the Nintendo DS!" shows up.
Followed by: "But only in Japan! Hahahaha!"
but more to the point: Holiday '09? That's quite a while, plus I bet there will be a ton of delays.

Uh, what about the whole mess of additions and updates they're giving the the Xbox 360 itself? |

You can play a couple of demo's via the XBL marketplace. It says E3 so I'm guessing they are new. It's Too Human and something kind of rpg. |

Looks like crap, imo. I'd prefer it the way it is, that's just them trying to copy the Wii. And besides we knew that all was coming, the majority of it anyway, so not really new.

First of all, that wasn't the point.
Second of all, while the new dashboard does look crapty, it's including a lot of new stuff that I didn't know about. Group parties where you can share media as well as watch movies/tv shows with them with the new Netflix partnership is a brilliant idea. The (non-mandatory) ability to install games on to the harddrive and completely play them off the hard drive is awesome. The 360 has enough block buster games coming out this year I really don't think they NEEDED to announce anything else. Also, why would you say Final Fantasy XIII doesn't count. That's almost the biggest news of the whole conference. Final Fantasy XIII is an absolute guaranteed system seller, and now with it on both platforms it's going to move significantly less PS3s. No one saw this coming. |

Ok then what was the point? My initial point was that MS didn't announce any of their big games at E3 and we already knew about all of them before yesterday(save FFXIII) and that normally E3 was when everyone announced all of their new/big games.
GTAIV was supposed to be this huge "guaranteed system seller" and last I heard it really didn't live up to the expectations people were having for it. Sure it sold like crazy, but it didn't really move too many new consoles.

See Nintendo did what I've come to expect of an E3 conference .... announce new games.
I didn't say anywhere that what MS has in store was bad(save the lame new dashboard/avatar stuff), I've just come to expect new stuff being announced at E3.

The point was that they did announce new things, regardless of whether some of it looked bad or not.
Lips, the new Scene It game, the XBLA games including Portal: Still Alive. Along with the dashboard updates it's not THAT bad.
GTAIV wasn't system exclusive. It wasn't going to cause people to buy a massive load of one system because of that game. Surely you hear all the people that say "There's nothing on the PS3 I want, but when Final Fantasy XIII comes out I'll be getting a PS3 for that". Now they don't have to. |

Man, I remember saying somewhere a long time ago (over a year or more ago, perhaps) that you just wait, FF XIII will come out for the 360. Every PS3 humper for miles was screaming, "IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN!"

nintendo's conference was was one the weakest i've seen from them and will definitely be the weakest of the 3 this year.
games for the hardcore audience?! is animal crossing and wii music hardcore? i guess they were talking about star wars and call of duty which isnt even exclusive and will be better on the other consoles anyway. just seems like they continue to expand the gap between themselves and their loyal hardcore fans. what they are really trying to do is make the hardcore fans causal...

I remember they showed SSB: Brawl after the press conference a few years ago... There is still another day, right? |

I think Microsoft's was worse, they only show previously announced games. Yeah, the stuff Nintendo showed was "casual" but at least they showed something new.
They announced:
Animal Crossing: City Folk
A new Mario
A new Zelda
I think those are games "hardcore" gamers are very interested in.
Microsoft didn't show anything new, they just showed already know games. They are games that should be amazing though (I'm definitely getting Star Ocean, Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Last Remnant).
There is another day or 2 left of the show right? Maybe the better announcements will be then. |

Yeah, what were you watching? The only mention of Zelda and Mario was that their teams were contining their work to bring those titles to this generation. Is animal crossing REALLY a game hardcore gamers care about?

Rouxbik
| | #36 posted July 15, 2008 at 3:19pm (EDT) |
Hmm, I thought Animal Crossing was. It has always been one of the most popular series people discuss on message boards. Maybe I have obtained a different idea of what people mean when they say "hardcore games".
About the new Mario and Zelda games. I had just read on other boards that there were new ones being made but maybe those people read this quote wrong:
"Our internal teams that make Mario and Zelda are both hard at work, and will bring new titles to Wii."
I guess that quote just means that those teams are making other games, not Mario and Zelda. |

so far MS and big N's shows have been yawners. MS just showed previously announced titles, no new ones (just a new one for their console as the only surprise) and nintendo showed some new titles like AC that were kind of foregone conclusions, nothing huge like Mario Galaxy 2 or whatever. here's hoping sony has a big bombshell at the end of their show (or maybe it's over, im following gamespot's blog which is ~10 mins behind) or, as said above, the companies save something for tonight or tomorrow. otherwise this is a pretty drab show.
edit: god of war 3 trailer. neat but no surprises there. what happened to the big Halo 4's, twilight princesses, and mgs4s of years past? where's the "one everyone's been waiting for"? |
