tl;dr version:
Start selling on Amazon now and get good feedback before this winter or Amazon isn't going to let you sell games at inflated holiday season prices.

Email:
Greetings from Amazon Services.

With December 25th looming on the horizon, this e-mail no doubt finds you well into your preparations for holiday selling on Amazon.com. We know that you count on us to maintain customer confidence in our Toys & Games category, and we want our sellers in Toys & Games to provide a high-quality customer experience.

As part of our strategy to maintain buyer confidence on Amazon.com, we are implementing Holiday Selling Guidelines for the Toys & Games category.

Effective September 12, 2008, we will stop accepting new sellers in the Toys & Games category. Effective November 17, 2008, existing sellers who do not meet the following performance criteria will not be able to sell products in the Toys & Games category from November 17, 2008 through January 5, 2009:

- Seller's first sale on Amazon.com must be prior to 09/19/2008 (sale does not need to be Toy-specific).
- Seller must have processed and shipped at least 25 orders by 10/18/2008 (orders do not need to be Toy-specific).
- Seller has no greater than 1% defect rate. Order defects will be evaluated for orders placed between 07/06/08 and 10/04/08.

Starting on November 17, 2008, we will be monitoring the performance and listings of all merchants who are approved to sell in the Toys & Games category. Amazon Services reserves the right to cancel listings, suspend merchants or prohibit the selling of specific products during the holiday season to maintain a seller platform that is safe for buyers.

Here are some steps you can take to remain eligible to sell in this category throughout the holiday season:

- Monitor your performance metrics and take corrective action if necessary.
- Check your orders frequently using the Manage Your Orders feature in Seller Central
- Keep your storefront accurate; don?t show more stock for sale than you actually have available.
- Update your product quantities regularly to reflect what you have on hand.
- Make sure your shipping lead times are accurate and take into account the time it takes for you to package and transfer the package to your transport service.
- Send shipment confirmations and order cancellations/acknowledgements to Amazon in a timely manner.
- Ensure your policies are up-to-date.

Starting in early August 2008, you will be able monitor your performance metrics in your Seller Account. This will allow you to monitor your performance and take corrective action if necessary. We will provide final notification if you are eligible to sell in the Toys & Games category during the holiday season by the middle of November.

These Holiday Selling Guidelines are only applicable to the Toys & Games category. Sellers can continue to sell eligible non-toy or -game products in other non-restricted categories. If you would like to learn more about restricted products, visit our Product Guidelines in Marketplace Help:

Help > Selling at Amazon.com > Listing > Condition Guidelines

For tips on selling more effectively, check out our Marketplace Sellers Best Practices page:

Help > Selling at Amazon.com > Feedback & Performance > Seller Best Practices

If you have questions about our Holiday Selling Guidelines, please review the FAQ below.

We are interested in your opinions, and encourage you to submit feedback to us at holiday-toys-selling@amazon.com.

Thank you for selling at Amazon.com.

Regards,
Amazon Services

I guess it makes sense to prevent people from ruining Christmas. All it means is that less people get to take advantage of ridiculous pricing, which is a very good thing *smile*

You'd think Amazon would be ok with people buying and selling at higher prices... the higher the price, the more commission Amazon makes.

Buyers can remove negative feedback (or positive) if they feel so inclined. I've been hit with two unfair negatives and they have both since disappeared. Magic. . .

This safeguard will keep prices higher than they would otherwise be (fewer sellers available to sell) AND protect buyers from flunky sellers trying to make a quick buck for the holiday season who have no real interest in providing sound customer service. Amazon is much different than eBay in that buyers are given a considerable amount of power (buyers can request a refund for any reason at all and sellers are required to provide it). The ability to remove negative feedback also gives sellers incentives to clean up issues with buyers to keep their feedback squeaky clean.

Buyers also have the whopping ability to completely ignore leaving feedback. On Ebay it's proper etiquette to leave "A
++" feedback, on Amazon I don't think I've gotten this year... Despite me politely requesting it in a hand written note in each package. Of course Amazon feedback is completely meaningless... except when it comes to this!

Thats not technically correct - I had one person request a refund which I was able to deny because:
1) they waited more then the 30 day limit to realize it wasn't compatible on their system
2) they opened it

Had it happened within 30 days of purchase, I would have been screwed probably.

My feedback after a total of 53 items sold is a whopping 1. At least it was a perfect score though.

well it doesn't say how many positive feedbacks you need to keep selling then, you just have to fullfill a certain number of orders. I think most people will be safe.

You need <1% defect rate. Neg feedback is a defect. Get this: CHARGEBACKS are defects. It doesn't even have to be your fault to get screwed out of this XD

hmm,
I did refund one user on a purchase, but this was before I sent out (a wii sports disc, they ended up getting their original disc fixed at a local gamecrazy, and I mentioned that in the return). Is that something that would be held against me?

A guy bought a Zelda Triforce DS lite from me months ago, and just now leaves me feedback with "this item in bad conditions...". The item was listed as "Good" and I stated every single little defect with it. Instead of emailing me the guy just negs me, for virtually no reason.

"Order defects will be evaluated for orders placed between 07/06/08 and 10/04/08."

So, unless you got some in the past week, you might still be ok as long as you don't get any more before October 4th.

No idea. Amazon's reporting sucks. Actually, Amazon is really bad at MOST things from the Seller's side. No real order management at all! I can't BELIEVE that you can't mark something "sent/shipped" anywhere. When I asked about how I was supposed to keep track of what I had sent and such, their answer was that I could use a spreadsheet such as Excel to keep track manually! Idiots.

That being said, I keep selling my crap there. *smile*

Not sure. It gives you the option to search the last 365 days of transactions so I would assume only a year.

I can never sell anything on Amazon, stuff rarely sells on the Canadian site, and they have a reduced amountof items available to sell, like I can't sell Wii Sports, Zelda Collector's Edition, any videogame systems. The stuff that does sell are the main games like Zelda/Mario/GTA4, etc. and I can get more for them from EB so that's where I take those. I'll list items on Amazon and Ebay at the same price and it will sell on Ebay within hours. I want to be able to sell on the American site but they don't let you.
