Red Wings have injuries, and the Penguins are hungry.

Penguins in 7. It's going the distance. It's going for speed.

I really wished the Blackhawks were able to overtake the Red Wings, but the Wings have had their number basically all season.

I have no idea what game you were watching... are you sure you're even a fan?

Were the Penguins outplayed? Yeah, probably. But they played very solidly in the 2nd and 3rd periods and dictated the play a lot. They just didn't get any of the bounces, while Detroit did (2 off of Fluery).

This game was was MILES ahead of last year's game one, and could have easily went the Pens way with some bounces.

The thing is, the Pens had the opportunities... many of them, actually. All kinds of loose pucks around the net, and the Pens usually cash in on those. If they continue to get those kind of chances, they will score.

I'm not happy with how the game went, but I'm not about to write them off by any means, nor do I think they were embarrassed.

At times in the 2nd and 3rd (mostly in the 2nd), we were definitely outplaying them with our speed and energy. Unfortunately, it just didn't result in any goals.

I expect a much MUCH closer game tomorrow night.

Also, that early goal in the 3rd really took the life out of us. We really got our legs in the 2nd, and maybe even outplayed them. But, they got the goal late in the period. That hurt. Combine that with the early goal in the 3rd and we just lost all the momentum we were building in the 2nd.

Now, I'm not making excuses. We were outplayed. They're a great team (the best). But, I definitely see some positive things to take away from the game.

Eh, Osgood was very good, but I don't know about out of his mind. I just think we missed on opportunities, plain and simple.

That's their game. They're amazing at controlling the ice with great passes offensively, and superb backchecking defensively. We have to figure out how to beat it, and at times we did.

I believe it was like 30-30 late in the 3rd. Not sure the exact numbers.

it would be nice to get Datsyuk and Draper back too. Nobody is talking about that. Do you think the Pens could win if they were without Malkin & Cooke? Or Malkin & Staal? Considering a whole line's worth of players on Detroit right now would normally be in the minors or scratched, I think the Wings would dominate this series if they were totally healthy.

No doubt about it though, these are the two best teams in the league. They both have everything, from great goalies to top-tier forwards, to some of the best defenders. It'll be a good series for sure. I just can't see the penguins winning. The only difference that the WIngs have from last year, is we have Hossa instead of Dallas Drake and Ty Conklin instead of Hasek (who sat on the bench after 4 games). Pretty good trade-off.

The Red Wings are the most evenly stacked team in the NHL currently. They always have been. Injuries alone will not stop this team. I predict the the Wings in 6 games. Two offensive superstars on the Pens is not enough....

Disappointing, was hoping the Pens could get the win.

Wings in five - I called this series before the season even started, we will see another Red Wings Championship in Detroit. They are a team that I really dont care much about, but I always try to cheer for the home team. The majority of the games I watched this season were actually Penguins games, always play good games, but the Wings will win.

My god, Malkin is a dog. jerk should have been suspended if the league actually followed it's own rules. If Zetterberg had been the one to start that bullcrap, he would have been out. Fudging hypocrites. Oh well, maybe Red Wings prediction will come true sooner than the 6 games I said. Also, Wings are up 2-0, just like I said. Even the Chicago series was tougher than this...are the Penguins even going to try this year?

Malkin shouldn't have been suspended for sucker-punching Zetterberg multiple times?! Right. You are right though, the Penguins COULD have gotten the bounces....but they didn't. So, they are losing 2-0. Simple as that. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. The Penguins could've overcame those bad bounces, but they didn't. The Wings could've had Datsyuk and Draper back too, but they still won without them. The better team is going to to win the Cup....and it isn't the Pitts.

The Penguins are not beat up. At least Gonchar is playing, Datsyuk was our leading point scorer during the regular season and Draper is one of the league's best shut-down guys. Gonchar playing, but not being 100% isn't even close to not having the 2 Wings I just talked about.

I know that games 3-7 might not be like games 1 and 2, but what does that matter? It doesn't matter how the Wings won the first two games, it just matters that they did. Crosby and Malkin could've each made a difference in those 2 games.....but they didn't. Fleury could've had two shutouts to have the Pens up 2-0.....but he didn't.

Old ass Wings? Chelios, Osgood, Lidstrom, Maltby, Draper, & Holmstrom are the only guys over 35 years old on the Wings. While it will suck to lose 4 for those guys in the next few years, Chelios & Maltby don't do crap anymore anyways. In case you hadn't noticed, the goal scorers against your "young, super awesome, best players in the world Penguins" are:

Game 1 - Stuart, Frazen, Abdelkader
Game 2 - Ericsson, Filppula, Abdelkader

The Wings have been adding young players into their lineup for years already, and people still think they're old? Every team has old players, look at Gonchar, Guerin, & Gill. Their two best defensemen and a big difference maker in this year's playoffs. The Pens will be hurting more when they leave and the WIngslose their guys.

gosh darn it....I just made a wall of text. This must be the most that anybody has talked about hockey on this website.

Pretty much. I'm still somewhat optimistic this can go like the Washington series, and home ice can really spark us.

Also, DarkLord. Did you just say Gill was one of our best two defenseman? Gill is horrible man... I would rather start Boucher over him. He gets a lot of credit because he's paired with Scuderi, who's awesome. I'll admit though, Gill has played pretty decently these two games. MUCH better than he played in any of the previous series.

complete BULLCRAP that Malkin is not suspended for game 3 for instigating that fight with Zetterberg. Shows that the NHL only cares about ratings and not the rules

Rule 47.22, which hands down the one-game ban to players who instigate a fight in the game’s final five minutes.

Nah, it was legit -- even when I'm on this side of the fence. He didn't deserve one. It's only if it was pre-meditated or done in the fashion of coming back at someone for a prior incident. It was neither, so it was rescinded.

This crap was like third-degree assault. They only punish first-degree.

That rule has been proven to be bogus all post-season. The "automatic suspension" is really just applied when the NHL feels like it. They put in a nice clause where the league can choose to retract the suspension if they want; they sure have used that power liberally.

Rule 47.22 was also created to make sure teams didn't try to 'send any messages', or get revenge for a big hit earlier by deliberately attempting to hurt someone. This wasn't some goon going after a star, or a big guy going after a little guy. It was a usually calm player showing some frustration with the way things were going, and pretty much venting. Nobody got hurt, and the mood of the series is getting more competitive. This is exactly what the NHL wants to see.

Detroit is the NHL ghetto European team.

Clutching, grabbing, interfering all game and never get called.

Of course then there is players like Kornwall, who sits and waits for players to not be looking before he has the balls to hit them.
