The other day, in desperation and no computer, I went to a pawn shop and bought a laptop. No warranty, no refunds available. I tested the laptop to the best of my ability and so far it's okay. It was a Acer 5330 for $300. I'm sure I could find it on ebay cheaper. But it plays WoW, 160gb hard drive, 2.4 ghz processor, 2gb of RAM and Vista, isn't THAT bad of a deal. I hate going to pawn shops because I'm so conditioned for finding better deals here or on eBay.
Do any of you use pawn shops?

I used to go to pawn shops years ago for cheap CDs and video games (mostly for NES and SNES). I stopped going when ebay became popular and all of these games stores started opening up. A lot of people who would have gotten rid of their games at a pawn shop now take them to these game stores or ebay, so the selection has gotten slimmer and more full of garbage games. I'm not saying that deals cannot be found, but it generally isn't worth my time anymore to try to hunt for gems in my local pawn shops. |

I almost bought Alien Vs Predator at a local pawn shop for like $6. This was before DVD's became insanely cheap though. I've since seen the movie. Glad I didn't buy it.

No pawn shops near me, so I go to them when I am in Texas. Just this past summer I got:
Rambo (Blu-Ray)
Call of Duty W@W and Army of Two for $10 each. |

yea, i go to my local pawn shop (ps2/gamecube/xbox games are 5 dollars, ps3, wii and 360 games are 10) sometimes he carries ps1 game earlier games but usually he doesnt
best things i have found there are gta 4 (about a month after it was released) for 10 dollars, and 3 memory cards for the ps2 at 2 dollars a piece
oddly the stereo store carries games also, and they usually have older stuff (i found a copy of persona 2 there for 10) |

I visit them every chance I get. People are always looking for quick cash in ANY town. You never know what you will find there. Best thing are the ones that you know will charge a set rate for games because they will almost always just throw them on the shelf.
Just remember you can most likely knock off 10-25% because they have a fair amount above their cost |

Yeah, haggling is the best part of dealing with pawn shops. It goes a long with if your buying a number of items. I've also had a number of them not charge tax when doing cash exchanges. |

My 16 year-old nephew just picked up Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe collector's edition (PS3) for only $10 at a pawn shop yestereday, so I'm tempted to go there and see what other goodies they have. |

Pawn shops around here tend to keep an eagle eye on Ebay.
"Hey, this guitar isn't worth $600, it goes for about $450 new." He says, "Let me see what I can do." Disappears in the back, but I can see he's on the computer. Five minutes later, "I can let you have it for $450." "But it's not new, now is it?" I leave.

I check every now and then, though the best I've got so far was a complete Fatal Frame III for $10. The main one I check almost always has a few good cds, and they sell them for $3, so that's what I go there for mostly.

Every pawn shop in my city uses ebay too. So its harder and harder to find amazing deals. Its the ones that dont get with the times that you can snag some crazy crap from.

Our pawn shops check ebay. They try to overprice it though, so I always ask them what the prices on ebay say, and they'll go down. Bigger items they won't always go down very much though. Pisses me off. |
