So I was sitting in my living room watching "Without Bias" the story on Len Bias on ESPN. The movie is made up of interviews of family and friends. As I am sitting there I see a woman talking and saying how she never saw him do drugs. I see the face and the name and suddenly realize that she is one of my teachers! Apparently she was Len Bias' girlfriend at the time of his death. I am going to have to bring that up on Monday when I see her.

Oh man! Chong represents the epitome of the '70s drug culture, have you never seen Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke?!? He represented that perfectly in the That '70s Show (yes of course over dramatized for cheap laughs in a sitcom) which takes heavy aim at the use of Marijuana socially. He was also made a poster boy target of a sting operation by the Bush administrations overzealous federal drug law enforcement which sent him to prison for selling a shipment of 'paraphernalia' to one of two states that do not condone 'paraphernalia' sales. After repeated declination of requests for a large order of pipes, the 'company' finally caved after a trust was built with the buyer due to incessant requests and conversations over a few months. The result? A DEA raid of his private home and seizure of his most of his assets. Big time criminal needed the calvary to come arrest him like he was a armed terrorist and embarass him in his neighborhood. His son was running the company under his name and he took the wrap to let his son avoid any prison time.

I had the courtesy of watching him and his wife do a stand up routine a couple years ago and got to shake his hand and talk to him and his wife a bit after the show (so did everyone else there, pretty low key place), really cool guy and very outspoken about the Bush administration. While not the most hilarious comic by far, he is an icon that transcends into the younger generations... Snoop Dogg had him appear in the movie 'Car Wash' as his dealer. Props from one weed czar to another. Also, one of the most healthy looking 70 somethings I ever met.

I'm familiar with all those things...I've watched parts of Up In Smoke, never the whole thing though...I'm aware of all those things you talked about, I remember reading a bit about that raid. I just hated his character on That 70's Show because every line he had was so predictable, and while predictability is a staple of sitcoms, it was painfully unfunny...like 90% of the time. That 70's Show had generic sitcom moments a lot, sure....but Tommy Chong was the worst offender, as far as I'm concerned. I just hated the character. Might not be his fault, he probably didn't write the lines....but I just absolutely hated his character on the show.

Actually, the worst thing to happen to That 70s Show (despite the heavy decline in quality over the years) would be the Cheap Trick cover of the original theme song.

My hotel doesn't have a 13th floor because of superstition, but people on the 14th floor, you know what floor you're really on.

My friend asked me if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said 'No, but I want a regular banana later....so, yeah.'
