Well I'm looking to get a new laptop. I've currently got a Dell Vostro 1000. I'm looking for something smaller and faster, bigger HD and 3GB+ ram. I'd also like one decent with gaming. I'm thinking of getting this laptop

I want to know if there is a better laptop to get around this price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Basic stats on the vostro 1000 appear to be:
AMD Athlon 64, 1.7ghz
1gb ram
Radeon xpress 1150
80gb hdd, etc etc
Seeing as how it's a 2 year old machine, yes this is an upgrade. However, it's not a tremendous upgrade. For $200 or so more than the small Walmart upgrade, you could get yourself a much better machine. Walmart laptop just appears like a deal since it's $298, but it's really only a deal if you're looking for something simple and a bit better than a simple netbook. As an upgrade for you, $298 seems a bit high when you could get something much better for a bit more $

If you want to do any sort of gaming at all, make sure you get one with Nvidia or ATI graphics. The intel graphics won't support crap.

Depends on which versions. CoD1 and BF1942 can probably run on those $500-600 laptops. If you are talking about CoD2/4 and BF2/2142, the minimum you'd have to pay is about $1,000 for the gaming Asus Best Buy has: Link
Also, I don't know how well PS2 emulators run. I would assume they are very CPU heavy, probably won't be able to run that even on that Asus. That's best for desktop computers

Yeah. I'm thinking of just keeping my Vostro and getting a desktop for my gaming. Whats my best option there?

Build your own desktop from scratch... save a lot of money and make a very powerful machine. |

Yes desktop for gaming and build your own. You can do newegg financing as well. Spend $500 and get 6 months interest free. Spend $1000 like I just did haha ($60 in rebates) and get 12 months free financing. I bought everything: amd quad core 3.4, 4 gigs ddr3 ram, 500gb hd, GTX 275, 750 watt psu, case, burner, and so on. I bought windows 7 pro from knight $55. This should be able to play crysis maxed out. Not that I will but I can. It's in the mail as we speak. |
