Hey everyone,
I am attempting to make some money for a local soup kitchen in Detroit that could really use some help in these hard times. This group has been around serving about 2,000 meals a day and delivering food across the city for a long time, I believe they started during the Great Depression and continue to this day. I am currently trying to think up different ideas on how I can help them, I am currently working on a facebook page to try and generate awareness with some of my friends, and hopefully they pass it on, but I thought maybe a charity raffle on here could work as well.
Raffle Idea
Any game you want, if you win the raffle I will purchase it brand new for you and ship it to your door or P.O. box. So with that said, say the majority wants MW2 but you want Uncharted 2, not an issue, I will purchase any item you want that retails for $60 or less. I had thought about doing a system raffle but with shipping I think that would be a bit rough.
I want everyone to know that every cent of revenue will be going directly to the Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen, so even if you dont win the raffle, you are donating money to a great cause. I will be donating time + some of my own money to them over the next few weeks.
If anyone wants to purchase more then one ticket that is perfectly fine, no limit on ticket purchases will be set. I will accept all forms of payment but if paying with paypal would appreciate it being sent as a gift so money is not lost on fees. I will do the names in a hat system unless someone has a better way, i have seen some name generators on here in the past, maybe I can find one of those to do it.
I think I have generated a good reputation on here and hope that everyone trusts me enough to take part in the raffle
UPDATE - October 30th
Round 2
To start, I would like to thank all of you who participated in round one; you are all winners for donating to this great cause. In the first round we have raised an additional $18 dollars that will be donated to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen of Detroit.
Congratulations to TheGhost4413
You were selected as the winner of the raffle. If you want a game that’s currently available I will pick it up today and have it shipped by tomorrow.
I did take a video – it came out all right – but I have to figure out where to upload it, I have never uploaded a video online, but I’ll try to get it up on YouTube later today.
I would like to begin a second round – if everyone is still interested. The first round went well, but I would certainly like to speed up the process a bit. I do apologize for the delay in finishing up this raffle; it was a very hectic school week. If you are interested in the second round, please copy the list below and add your name + the amount of tickets you would like to purchase. Tickets will still cost $5 per or $4 each for any amount over 2, I would like for this group to have at least 25 tickets, and to close the group by next Saturday night (Nov. 7th), though it will depend on remaining tickets.
Again Congrats to TheGhost4413
Thanks,
Matt.

I am glad to see all the good responses so far. : ) - I appreciate all the input, I would be fine with doing a discount on multiple ticket purchases, like mentioned 2 for $8 would be fair and probably would generate more multi ticket buyers. I have no problem doing multiple raffles as well, if enough people are interested and everyone thinks it would be better to break it into seperate groups, we could do a set amount of 20 tickets per group, that way the cost does not go to high, but I will still get some extra money for donations. I can set up a list on here that states who is in a group and how many tickets they have purchased. If anyone has any more suggestions, send them my way, I will probably wait a few more hours and see how much more interest this generates, but maybe we can even start this up tonight.
As for games, they can be for PC or console, whatever the raffle winner wants as long as it can be purchased in a normal retail store - and has a price of $60 or less.

Sounds like a great idea, and I would love to support a fellow michigander. You can count me in for 2. Also, my idea is that instead of you buying the game and shipping, why not make the drawing for a Gift card to amazon or w/e. Best of luck. |

Maybe peeps would be interested in donating prizes for your raffle, then it wouldn't cost you anything for the prize, just contact the donator with the address for the winner. I'd be happy to ship a copy of COD4 for the pc for the cause, let me know what you think. |

Hey everyone, I want to thank all for your interest. I am going to close the first group of 20 as I had agreed to that set amount of tickets, unless all of those members are interested in letting it grow. Just to answer some questions, I dont have a great video camera but I will tape the drawing with my digital camera so that everyone can see. I will provide documentation of the donation to Capuchin, but It will be a few weeks from now as I will be working to generate money into this holiday season. With all the interest that im seeing I think it would be great to start up another raffle group, I would plan on doing things a little different this time around.
Group 2 -
I think it would be better to have a week long period in which people can purchase tickets, but would still need to sell a minimum of 20 tickets to carry on with a new game raffle. Brett (Gametz User - Gutterpuppy) said he would be interested in donating a game to the cause, which is awesome, if any one else is intersted in that, it would be great. I will post some more information regarding group 2 a little later tonight - and hopefully we can get it started. |

If you are going to break it all down as has already been talked about, i.e. doing multi ticket buys and breaking into groups to allow for more winners etc, I think you will continue to generate some good interest on this.
Oh and also I would pick up a couple of tickets as well, chance to win something good and help out at the same time? its a cant lose.

Why are you only doing it for 20 people?
I'd think that the more people who enter, the more money you are making for your charity :S
Or why not offer an additional game for each 20 people?

The second raffle will be open to more then 20 people, the first was kind of a beta run, to test the waters and I had said I would keep it at a 20 ticket max with that group, I want to stand by what I agreed to. With the second raffle I plan to still offer a new game of that members choice, I have another user on here who has offered to donate a copy of Call of Duty 4 for the PC , and I plan on trying to work something in with a gift card to Gamestop as well. I have a good amount of credit to the store and would gladly give some of it away in the raffle if it means more money will be made for charity. I need to get things completed with everyone in the first group, get that raffle taken care of and I will begin the second as soon as possible. |

It could be that groups of 20 at a time would work well, more chances to win could equal more ticket sales... win/win situation for your charity and the ticket buyers
