My Kid Could Paint That (9/10) -- Awesome documentary about a 4-year old art prodigy whose paintings have sold in excess of $300,000... but are they really from her or are the parents involved in one of the biggest modern-day art scams this century?

El Orfanato was great I thought as well.
I found it to have a very creepy vibe throughout most of the film and a very well developed plotline that kept you genuinely interested throughout the film.
The ending was well done and didn't turn out as I expected.
The bus part was icky. |

Spoiler especially that old ladys face! I didn't think they would show it. The only problem I had with it was I am so sick of buses randomly hitting people. I need to make a list of all the movies/tv shows where a bus or truck just comes out of nowhere and hits someone |

I was about 3 feet away from getting taken out by an out of control car last week... this guy came over on top of a woman in the middle of the road, I was on the curb and she was flying right at me... i was stunned.... thinking "oh crap"... my wife got hit by some glass... just scratched her leg. Oh well. |

man..! glad you're both okay.
My buddy was walking across the street at a crosswalk. Had the walk light so he was in the right. Had headphones on and was walking across and I guess the bus was braking but was going pretty fast or something and still hit him. Wasn't overly serious he wasn't unconscious or sent to the ICU but now he has pretty bad back pains and will probably be on painkillers for a long time to come. |

people drive crazy in cities... i was in Baltimore when this happened... it was lunch time, cars everywhere... the crosswalks are even more confusing now that they have the "countdowns" on the walk lights. |
PeteKelly

| | #13 posted April 22, 2008 at 8:35pm (EDT) |
Yeah!! I was laughing at a buddy of mine one time we had went to a concert and he was trashed. We walked up to one of those friggin lights and he looks at me plastered and completely confused and asks "Is that how long I have left to get across or is it a countdown to when I'm allowed to cross?" |
Feeb

| | #14 posted April 22, 2008 at 8:59pm (EDT) |
From what i understand, if you're in the middle of the road you better get to one side or the other before it hits 0.... i always walk even though it has the big red stop hand, so long as i have time... it was much easier when there was a white walk man and a red don't walk hand.... then there's the voice for the death folks at a 5 way intersection saying "the walk sign is lit for x street" in like a 3ft x 3ft area with streets shooting off every way... blind folks must have echolocation / really good sense of sound direction... i could see the cars and wasn't sure where to cross...
anyway. I was gonna try and watched There Will Be Blood, but I had to study, and popped some nyquil, so no. Maybe tomorrow.
Go Obama. |

Don't watch it. lol. Boooring. It's filmed well but it shouldn't have been made into a movie. It's way too long and there's no payoff |

i'm actually just messing around. sounds like he already has it so he might as well watch it. and i wouldn't say i'm in the minority. there are just as many people who hate is as like it. it's just one of those movies. actually i may be in the majority didn't this movie do very mediocre-bad in theaters and now rentals. When I went to rent it the wall was actually packed. Any who different strokes for different folks indeed.
I'm not tryin to be a jerk in asking this but i'm seriously curious. Why did you enjoy it so much? What about it drew you in? I seriously felt jipped after watching it. Maybe i didn't quite 'get it' i dunno it just seemed bad to me. I'm seriously curious to hear what drew you in. Use spoilers if need be I'm seriously down to discuss this. |

The acting! The emotion! The drama! The humor! Everything about it drew me in. It wasn't necessarily a plot-heavy film, but there was a story there. The story of Daniel Plainview the oil man. The story of a father and his son. The conflict between young Eli and Daniel. I don't think there was anything that you didn't "get" maybe, I can understand someone not enjoying the film I suppose, but at least show some appreciation for it. Its not the kind of film we get very often. So, for you to say "Transformers > There Will Be Blood" makes me sad because I'm tired of cookie cutter popcorn munching hollywood flicks. To me, those are what suck nowadays, especially ones that try to capitalize on popular franchises and end up ruining them.
Plus, I don't know how you can't enjoy the ending, it was perfect. I loved it. |

I highly regard Pete's opinion, and my time is very valuable these days... I'll probably still give it a chance. I must admit, from trailers (even these were long and full of fluff), word of mouth, etc it seems it is a long, hellish experience... likened to a root canal maybe, or the democratic primary process, or a Rockies / Padres game...
I've seen these films before, made to win an actor acclaim, yet crapty. That's what I'm expecting, so I may end up being pleasantly surprised?

I can't argue in Transformers defense of it being a cookie cutter popcorn flick. You're right. Ignorant for me to argue that, i think that was the full intention of it. The artistic integrity of it didn't match There Will Be Blood I'll give you that. But it was enjoyable and I didn't feel jipped.
I thought the movie was done well but my problem is it seemed lacking. Like something was missing. For 2 1/2 hours it didn't seem to me like much ground was covered. The acting. Daniel Day Lewis made me HATE Daniel Plainview ( and I like Lewis. Awesome in Gangs of New York and many others) And this clearly is the type of movie that people walk out discussing such as you and I are. And they either hate it or love it.
I repsect the artistic portion of it but it felt unfullfilling to me. I love movies and I like to feel something (that may sound stupid) after I watch it. This I felt upset that I watched it and not in the same sense as I did with movies like Schindlers List, Life is Beautiful, or Hotel Rwanda. I was upset cuz I could have watched something more worthwhile. No Country For Old Men was great I really dug it. All around good movie.
I totally respect your taste in movies I just dont' agree. If you had said Moulin Rogue or Rent were your favorites I'd have laughed and moved on. BUT you seem to have some sense so I was curious to discuss this.
As for the ending I hoped for the roles to have been reversed. |

Also Pete, just to clarify, while I loved Daniel Day Lewis and thought his acting was superb, and I loved watching Daniel Plainview on screen, I don't really think Plainview was a good guy or anything.
I don't think you're supposed to be on his side or anything, I mean he was clearly a jerk. However, I'm not dissapointed with how it ended or anything, Eli was a corrupt character as well. |
