they are different kinds of movies.
Dark Knight is more thought out and dramatic, but Iron Man is just more fun.
Besides them both being comic book movies, you can't compare them. |

Yes Man - 8/10 - Classic Carrey. Laughs all around.
Shoot 'Em Up - 9/10 - It's not every day you see a non-stop action movie where guys get killed with a carrot.

So it is safe to say that if I've never enjoyed a Jim Carrey movie, I won't enjoy this one either?? |

Dramatic ill give you, but it was a poorly executed film from start to finish. Almost like they new Ledger was going to die so his spirit could carry TDK.
They just need to make the Batman movies R-rated and quit fudging around, the editing during scenes that would lead to gore got me more irritated than anything else.

I had no problem with the gore. I thought the movie was dark enough that it didn't need an R rating. |

Nope.
Iron Man is a one-time movie watching experience. You can't just pop in and play Iron Man without having to fast forward through the entire first half of the movie... b/c once you've seen the movie already, upon the second or third time watching, it's tedious watching the Tony Stark exposition.
Dark Knight opens with action and suspense and either has one of the following elements in every scene:
1. action
2. joker
3. amazing acting
4. gary oldman and/or 2-face

I agree with those saying Iron Man is better. It has
1. Style
2. RDJ
3. amazing acting (and no terrible Batman voice)
4. Cool effects
5. Humor
I'll agree The Dark Knight has the better villain but, that's where it's being superior ends. I've watched Iron Man numerous times and still dig it each time. I'll probably watch The Dark Knight multiple times too but even on the first at home watch it had lost some of it's flair.

I disagree completely. If anyone has style it's Batman. Iron Man looks like any other movie, it looks like the new Hulk or any summer movie. The lighting and cinematography in Dark Knight is superb. There's a mood with Dark Knight, Iron Man just looks like your typical summer blockbuster.

(that's one)

"amazing?" It's got RDJ and we already gave you a point for that one.

They both have cool effects, canceling each other out.
> 5. Humor
okay, that's two!
Iron Man is great for what it was. I think Dark Knight is timeless, tho.

regardless of whose side you are on (i rate dark knight just ahead of iron man myself but batman is also my favorite comic hero ) who would have thought we could ever say two comic movie are even worthy of rating highly? and the DC versus Marvel thing makes it all the sweeter. of course once Marvel really gets the ball rolling with the Avengers arc it will be Game-Set-Match!

Unless they mess up casting for Captain America/Thor, etc.
They already messed up with Nick fury imo, making him Sam jackson. Should have stuck with the older Nick Fury. As well they are supposdly going for the " ultimate" looks to all the people, which are imo some of the worst ones.
Thor - Vladimir Kulich deserves this role (He played the main viking guy in 13th Warrior, he looks like the part, he can act the part, and he's huge) however the " ultimate" thor is much younger.

Shouldnt they get the main bad guy/Viking from Pathfinder to play him? I dont even know what he's suppose to look like, never read the comic.

You guys forget that the reason why comic movies are relatively "fresh" all of a sudden, after the success of Spiderman.............. was because they were usually lame as fudge previously.
An avengers movie sounds like it's gonna be more of the same, rather than something you haven't seen before. If a talented director like Bryan Singer could fudge up the xmen movies (they were ok, at best) and butcher Superman Returns with that budget, then I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything marvel-related.
btw, I've read Frank Miller's The Spirit is one of the worst movies ever made, they likened it to watching battlefield earth

Jeffro

| | #21 posted December 20, 2008 at 3:19pm (EST) |
I would never call Bryan Singer talented, if he was he would of stayed the fudge away from those two IPs and waited for a million more re-writes 'til they got something more competant.

Your cursing has gotten out of control young man. I pitty the fool that doesnt see TDK's terrible structure, "hey, I'm the JOKER and I all the sudden pop out of nowhere due to the transporter Gene Roddenbarry gave me!!!!", "Hey, I'm Batman and he gave me one to, RAWR!!!" "hey, Harvey Dent here, hook a brotha up Gene! We'll milk your dead body for everything it's worth too."

The Abyss-9/10-Wow, didnt remember liking this as much when I was younger. Really great sci-fi flick, just what I was in the mood for. Only bad thing was that I had to watch it on Netlfix so it looked like crap, sounded amazing on my PC setup though.

You make a good argument. Part of my mentioning of effects is how much more of a personality Iron Mans suit has than Batmans. I'm not dissing The Dark Knight by any means I just don't see myself watching it as much as Iron Man. The mood is great and Ledger did a good job and suprised the hell out of me. I didn't think he could pull it off. Christian Bale is a great actor but in The Dark Knight I didn't really feel that way. I thought he kinda just sleepwalked through. Whereas RDJ (which you've given props too so I know there's no argument on him being badass in the role) really pushed the character and did so well that I can't imagine anyone else having pulled this off as well.
Different strokes for different folks though. As someone else already said, let's just agree we got ourselves a badass comic movie package this year. These two movies are some of the best comic movies ever in my opinion.

He completely looks the part. Problem is, can he carry a whole movie? I could see him playing Thor in just an Avengers movie where he doesn't have to do much acting or anything too much more than kicking ass but they're wanting a Thor feature film. With the standards that comic movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight have set people expect a little more out of these movies nowadays. I actually agree he'd completely fit the physical description and they probably should just leave Thor as a character in Avengers and go ahead and cast him but, I don't think they will.
Who do ya think for Captain America?

Captain America isn't that "big," especially compared to other super heroes.
It's not that he's extremely huge, but rather that he's very fit. At least that's how I remember him in the older comics. As well doing some quick googling yeah, he's not that big imo. If Hugh Jaackman can play wolverine I don't see the deal with a fairly normally fit person playing Captain America.
