About the movie : After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban 'starter' tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.
I fudging hate Boston. Every friend I have that comes back from Boston has this Phony accent and they just say crap like,"wootaya dooin ya stoopid dog"
Well, they released the film (Paranormal Activity) in Cincinnati today, and I got to see it.
I URGE anyone who is a fan of fear, who is kind of tired of what most people think is scary (Saw series, etc...) to give this movie a serious try. The fear and dread you get from watching this movie will leave a lasting impression. The actors give tremendous performances, and really engulf you in their predicament.
Filmed in the style of films like "The Blair Witch Project," it's really amazing that the films budget was only $15,000! Thats less than a studio spends a day on a multi-million dollar "blockbuster" that couldn't scare the pants off a porn star. It really doesn't even seem like your watching a movie, but that you are enduring with the young couple who stars in the film.
Trust me, I have nothing invested here. Upon seeing this movie, if you can sleep with the lights on throughout the night without questioning whether or not your alone in the room, then you are a braver person than I. Though I still believe that "The Exorcist" is still the best, and scariest film ever made, this film, too me of course, is a close second. I know I'll never forget it.
First off, I am a braver person than renegadesoffunk.
Now that I got that out of the way, I went to see it today. I didn`t find any part of it scary until the last 30 minutes hit, then it got pretty intense. Before that the movie was moving around at a somewhat glacial pace (though I know it was intentional and necessary for the buildup....but tedious). What happens in the last few minutes really is worth the price of admission though, as it is genuinely scary and gets under your skin. People walked out of the theater visibly shaken, as did I (surprisingly) after the movie ended, but overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie.
But I dont think its the scariest movie of all time, and I also don`t think this is the type of movie that will play well in a home setting. I can already see the backlash when it eventually gets released on DVD and people complain that its not that scary. A lot of the intrigue/scary moments in the movie relies on sound bites and sound effects (though not all though, trust me on this),
and that type of stuff is what movie theaters are made for.
I was literally just going to post a new thread asking if anyone knew the name of this movie. I saw a little advertisement of it online last night and it looked scary as hell. Hoping to convince my girlfriend to come along.
I'm gonna buy it on DVD. My gf won't go watch it with me.
And FWIW PLEASE don't signup on their website to promote it. For fudges sake, I get like 2 emails from them a day about "support us, we're indie". $7M opening weekend for a $11k flic...they don't need to be emailing me anymore...
Convinced my girlfriend to watch it with me on Saturday. A guy that I work with, his wife wont watch it with him because it looks to "scary" so he suggested that him and I see it. I told my girlfriend that and now she'll all game about seeing with me. You just need to find a good way to convince her of going with you.

Saw it and
I gotta say it drug out the entire time until the near the end. It was ok but it wasn't all that scary to me. Still scarier than most scary movies though. My gf did start crying, she's a lightweight when it comes to scary movies. Didn't really help that some guy behind me would not shut the fudge and kept narrating what was happening,"Oh my god that door just opened, Holy crap shes walking down the stairs, Thats a shadow leaning down guys" I hate douchebags that can't shut the fudge up.

Some big mouth kept narrating the events at the showing I went to tonight as well. It was still one of the most intense theater experiences I've had. The sense of dread grew more and more with every nighttime sequence and led up to a good final 20 minutes. The final scene could have done more,
The second to last nighttime scene when she was dragged down the hall was much better
but it still worked. I think this movie will play wickedly on a home theater with the lights turned down low.
im just saying, the spirit and whatnot always fudgeed with her, and she was right there , closest to the door, youd think if crap kept happened RIGHT by the door, you would move to the other side of the bed...you know?
You and bones should hang out like the couple of motion sick pansies you are.
Seriously though, almost the entire movie the camera was stationary - either on the tripod or sitting on the floor or counter top. Was the camera movement really that bad?
