I thought it was amazing. Just watching the wild things move and interact was worth seeing it. It's about time we got some real life creatures back in movies and not simply complete cgi creations.
As for the actual movie, it was unlike anything I've ever seen before. I think it captured what the book was about. If I had one complaint, I thought the symbolism about his parents divorce was sometimes too heavy, but still minor stuff. |

Jonze and Eggars NAILED this...as did the boy (who, I'm sure, has a name) and Karen O. Had goosebumps for most of the movie. The fort looked like an Andy Goldsworthy piece if he were a giant.
I'm with Bova on the symbolism, it was a little overbearing at times. Still, nailed it. Beautiful movie. |

I haven`t seen it yet, but I have the soundtrack, and the soundtrack is pretty fudgin awesome, it hints at what music will be played at certain scenes, and that alone has me excited. Now If only I can convince the woman to go see it with me.
The kids name is Max Records by the way |

would not having read the book (or even heard about it until recently) decrease or increase enjoyment of this film?

drizz, go to your local bookstore/Borders/Barnes and Nobles, find it, and sit and read it. It will literally take you 1 minute - 2 minute tops. The book is essentially just 10 sentences....thats it. It helps to get some perspective on it before you see the movie, though its not necessary

Not necessary to read it but I think it definitely shows how well the film was made. It never feels like anything but an extension of the book - the world, the characters, how it deals with childhood - which is what makes the film's success all the more impressive.
Now everyone else here (except Bova who is the coolest) will tell you the movie is only ho-hum when in reality it is they who are ho-hum. Don't give in to the haters! |
