Look into RARs. All you need is Google and a program called WinRar. |

Do you mean download music legally, or illegally?
So we know what kind of answer to give.

And on a related note, you can listen to music on Playlist.com without downloading it. I use the site for work to listen to music.

google the name of any album and add the term "megaupload" or "rar" at the end.
And get Winrar....then you should be all set.
Worked for me for the past 6 years |

If someone could specify whether this is allowed to be discussed or not, I would go more in depth. |

I believe Z was restricted once for opening a topic discussing piracy, even though he wasn't trading anything pirated. I'd steer clear.

itunes never fails for quality, but it is expensive.
If you have the music but looking for a digital copy, check out Soulseek or Limwire.
Mininova works magic too. |

Or, if you have the music but looking for a digital copy, check out the CD-ROM drive on your home computer.

Limewire is good for singles. If you're into older and less popular music, you'll more than likely be dissapointed with P2P clients such as Limewire. P2P was much more common five years ago, it's an older way of doing it. |

As far as being able to download music legally and for free, good luck with that. There aren't too many places that offer that sort of thing.
However, there are alternatives:
MySpace Music: http://www.myspace.com/music
Pandora Internet Radio: http://www.pandora.com
Playlist.com: http://www.playlist.com
Last.FM: http://www.last.fm
iLike: http://www.ilike.com
OverClocked ReMix: http://www.ocremix.org
MP3.com: http://www.mp3.com

Yes, it is.
Anyway, if you're willing to pay a somewhat small amount of money for music, I use www.soundsbox.com. I put in $20 not too long ago and downloaded 9 Beatles albums. Though, you have to wait 12 hours or so after you OK the money because they check for fraud (besides being frauded before, I don't know why), and the site is quite... European.

It's another illegal russian site. The artists don't get the money. |

I was trying to find the article but there was a survey conducted and turns out the people that pirate movies (or download illegally) are the majority of people that actually go out and buy the product. I’m sure that this isn’t 100% accurate but it would make sense that people just want to test it out before they get it. |

I`ve pirated movies before and then went on to see said movie in the theater. Why? Because the movie was so good, that I felt that it deserved my money and my support. I did it for the movie "The Reader" and "The Wrestler" last winter, I had illegal screener dvds for both movies. But they were both so great that I ended up going to see them in theaters to support them.
For music I`m a lot more selective, only for bands that I REALLY like, I actually go out and buy the cd. Only cds I buy are anything by Dream Theater, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bjork, Radiohead and Slipknot, because those are my favorite bands. Everything else I download...because....well I can.....and easily and without torrents. If its like an indie band, I`ll go out and buy their cd after giving it a download and finding them really good ( A la vampire weekend) |
