I'm working on building a PC right now and the next step would be to get a processor. I want something with more than 2 cores, since quad is becoming more standard now, but I don't have the cash for a Phenom X4 or the upcoming Deneb's. So I was looking into Phenom X3 triple-core processors. Reviews say they're about as good as a 3GHZ AMD Athlon 64 X2 from what I'm seeing, but stability could be an issue, since the number of cores isn't 2, 4, or etc. Anyone have any experience with Phenom X3's and/or want to give me an opinion? (Socket type is AM2+, gonna be running Vista Home Premium, power supply could easily handle the 95 watt requirement of Phenom X3's.)

Get yourself a high-clocked Intel C2D and you won't regret it.

Little too late for that, unfortunately. I already bought my board...

I dont know much about the Phenom X3 but from what I have heard from other people they are nice. I plan on getting one of the X4s myself. If you have any PC Questions use this board. Its the most helpful PC Forum on the net.

Pretty nice for the price, but I plan on getting an Intel E8600. It's only a dual core processor, but from what I understand it would go much faster then the X3 and X4's and can be overclocked up to 6.0ghz (although I'd never go over 4.5 probably)
Plus there's not many things making use of anything over dual core right now. It may be a few years away yet.

Thanks for the opinions so far. The real reason I'm looking into 3-4 core CPU's is because I went with AMD to save some cash on the CPU's, but the higher clocked Athlon 64 X2's are still using a 90nm process and have a massive 125 watt power requirement. I'm kind of regretting going with AMD at this point, but I think since I got the board already I'll stick with them for now.

What kind of board do you have? I may buy it if you want to sell.

Third post in this thread has a link to my board. I think I'll stick to AMD for now. It's a really decent board. My next build will be Intel for sure, though.
