OK, here's the situation....I had to change my wife's motherboard. Installed the new mobo and went to do a repair install with my XP Home SP2 Upgrade CD. Well here's where the problem is. It started the setup for repair and I got an error. I checked the CD and it was cracked. I borrowed a friend's OEM SP2 disc tried to install. My Upgrade Key didn't work so after finding a temp. solution, ending being able to install, but it turned out to be a Dual OS install. Now I don't have all my programs and files, they're on the other OS I guess. What I was wondering if someone can help me with a copy of a XP Home SP2 Upgrade disc so I can finish the repair on the other part of the computer so I can have all the programs and software and files and then how to get rid of the OEM boot so I can get that space back and run the computer the way it was suppose to....Can anyone help? | DefaultGen

Are you sure you can't boot into the other install of windows by fiddling with the boot settings from BIOS? If not, try repairing the boot record with something like http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html which should at least get your files back if you haven't overwritten them.
Almost all the time when people have problems like this, once you get access to your files, it will be easier to backup important files, format the HDD completely and reinstall a fresh copy of XP. You'd probably spend more time fixing problems than reinstalling.

When I boot into the other install, i get the screen saying "Setup is Restarting", then the screen goes black. I think it's because my Upgrade disc is cracked, it can't be read. If I can get another Upgrade CD and use my own Product Key, I can probably finish that repair install and then all I have to do is uninstall or delete the second boot up...which I don't know how to do.
As for the Ultimate Boot CD....I don't have a clue what to do with that. I don't know anything about those programs or utilities. | willyum

So you have your computer, but your wife's computer is on the fritz, and you're trying to pull data off of the hard drive? (Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding you.)
Have you tried sticking the hard drive into an external enclosure? Then you could use it as a separate drive and pull off what you need. And if you don't have permissions, you can try taking ownership of the files.
