Anyone recently upgrade or have an extra laying around?

Also how can I find out what speed PCI-E slot I have? This computer I have was a throw away that I fixed up for internet and media just need a dedicated video card now as well as some ram.

CPU-Z for finding out what kind of memory you're running now (which would give you a good idea of what kind you can run) and GPU-Z for finding out what the bus interface of the graphics card you're on now is, assuming it's a dedicated card. Integrated won't show up.

There is no video card installed it's running purely off integrated at the moment. I just need info on the mobo now that I know what it is. What ports etc.

Looks like it. If it is what he says it is the PCI-E slot is x16...sweet! Is there another site to confirm this though?

If it's an NVIDIA 4xx/61x0 chipset, I'm fairly confident it comes standard with one PCIe x16 1.0 connector.

So this would not work because it's 2.0?

PCIe x16 is backwards and forwards compatible for 99% of graphics cards, as far as I know, and with low end cards, you won't miss the double bandwidth of 2.0, since it won't make a difference.

I just want something cheap and upgradeable with I do upgrade the mobo/cpu. That option work for me then? Anyone have any other cards they'd suggest.

Thanks for your help btw RagingShadow. Much appreciated.

EVGA is a good brand. It's what I use, so it's definitely a brand I could recommend. Hopefully you'll have no problems installing the card you get. I've only heard of a few problems with PCIe x16 1.0 working with 2.0, so it should be fine.

I * love * my EVGA X58 mobo.

0 problems, overclocking is a breeze.
