Yup, no it's not too good to be true, it's a hopeful competitor of Paypal (and yes, they're member FDIC and a real bank). Support this site and maybe the monopoly of ebay/paypal will knock them down a notch.
Basically, it's paypal, MINUS THE FEES! Yup. Not a damn one in sight. Here's some info the site lists as the benefits of the service:
* It's free to collect online payments from buyers with MoneyExchange.
* Sending and receiving payments online between accountholders is free.
* Online transfers to and from your bank account are free.
* Get $10 for accounts you refer — up to $500.
* Plus, your customers, can sign up for free, and they will get a $25 bonus if they open an account before April 15, 2008. |
I just used 12 of my $25 to buy a Blu Ray from bur1196, which thanks to this, I got for free, plus I have $13 left over
This is NOT a referral site where you have to do anything, you simply sign up with your checking account and start using it just like Paypal. Of course I'd appreciate the referral as I posted this over in the referral section, but that's NOT my intention of this. Everyone (myself included) hates paypal and though I'm sure a small site like GTZ won't exactly help RME dominate Paypal, BUT if we start to use this site in our trades we don't have to worry about fees anymore! The more of us that accept this form of payment, the cheaper it'll be on all of us .
Again, I'm NOT looking for referrals, just people to sign up at revolutionmoneyexchange.com so we all can start saving money and avoid paying all the friggin fees paypal hits us with.
Comments/thoughts? Anyone besides me and bur1196 use this?

Let me know if you guys find any flaws or problems with them. So far so good for me, but of course like every service there's problems - I just haven't found any yet. I know when you take money out and request it by check rather than direct deposit or using it they charge you $2.50, but that seems fairly understandable considering they need to make money somehow.
Oh, and if you guys sign up, let me know and I'll put it in the original post so we know who can accept the form of payment now. It'd be nice if we can get a crapload of us to do so with some of the bigger traders like you vDub to do so

I believe so. According to their site: "Want to send money to someone who isn’t a MoneyExchange accountholder? Simply log into MoneyExchange and complete a request to send money to their email address. They will get an invitation to sign up. Once they’ve completed registering for a MoneyExchange account and the recipient has accepted the funds, and the funds will be posted instantly to the recipient’s account."
So yeah, it looks like it, BUT you could always just put the money into your checking account and pay another way whether through the demonic method of paypal or whatevs.

I would sign up, but then you would benefit from the referral, so I won't do it just to be a prick. Make sure to download the new CoD4 maps tomorrow so I can frag you in a whole new set of environments.

This part of the privacy policy kinda scares me:
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect information about you from the following sources:
* Information we receive from you, including information on applications or other forms, such as your name, address, social security number, assets and income;
* Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others, such as your account balance, transaction and payment history, parties to transactions, and credit card usage; and
* Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency, such as your creditworthiness and credit history.
INFORMATION WE DISCLOSE
We may disclose all of the information that we collect, as described above. You may opt out of the disclosure of such information, other than as permitted by law.
Sounds like they can disclose our SSN

Q. How else does MoneyExchange assure me about its level of security?
A. Our number one priority at Revolution Money is to maintain a high level of security, as we know protecting your financial information is a primary concern when registering with our service.
You might wonder why we ask for certain pieces of information that you may be nervous to share, such as your Social Security Number. We would not ask for any information that was not necessary to enable the security we promise to you. Also, to help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
With identity theft on the rise, we use your Social Security Number to confirm your identity by cross referencing it against other personal data you provide. This way, if someone were to get a hold of your Social Security Number, a MoneyExchange account could not be set up in your name without knowing your other personal information. So, sometimes it may seem as if you have to share more information about yourself, but in the end it actually protects your financial information to an even greater degree.
Finally, we have set limits on adding, sending, and receiving, money to or from your account to help guard against fraud. It’s not that we’re trying to control your spending behavior. We came up with the idea of MoneyExchange because we wanted to make it easier for you to exchange money with others, not to impose limits. But we also have to be concerned about fraud, so we have set up limits on how much money can move between accounts each day to limit the risk that there is any fraudulent behavior. Again, protecting your money is our utmost priority.

I signed up to this a while back, and I tryed to pass it on to a few and they immediately dismissed it and didnt wanan give it a try. AlphaKira, you have to send out emails if you want the refferal. I may just close my Acct there, right now you can only pass around money to members and theres no sites, that I know, That accept there money as a payment. This site does look a bit promising, also if you do a little research on them you can see people boasting about how good the site is. I havent found any complaints about them yet.
Also to those that couldnt sign up, It happened to a friend of mine. I dont know why their Application didnt go through.

At my job, I deal a lot with financial institutions, and one of the main reasons they have when they say they can't verify information is when someone has no credit history.
The second biggest one is when they accidentally mistype someone's social security number and it doesn't match up.

Good question.
Two ways to look at it:
1) Everyone singing their praises will tell you: "FDIC, insured, look at the guarantees, only to verify your identity", etc. etc. It's a fairly good sell.
2) Your SSN is going into a database which increases the POTENTIAL to be exposed dangerously. No matter the guarantees and backing and whatever, the fact is, you are giving away a piece of very important information.
Some people don't seem to have any problem; myself, I'm satisfied from what I get out of Paypal for my personal purposes, so I'll sit and wait on this one. For someone who feels fees are unacceptable, perhaps not. |
