This is something that's only been on my mind for the last few days now, but I would like to get some opions.
I was just wondering...where do I stand in the trading community? I mean, I've been here for almost two years and I've never had a bad trade, but at the same time I've only completed a handful of trades and a couple of those were new-to-new user trades that technically should not have happened. I also spend a lot of time in the forums, and have recently been making the effort to help out new site users given the recent string of terrible trades that resulted in BTRs and people getting ripped off, but that still leaves me in a grey area.
So basically, where do I stand as a trader? I haven't traded enough to technically build a trade reputation, but I feel that in being a regular presence in the forums I have built up somewhat of a report despite the fact that some would say its value is trivial.
As such, I'd like to know what you guys think. Thanks.

I think people that know you because they use the forums a lot would have no problems trading with you and would know that things would be fine. But, if someone that does not read the forums much initiates a trade, then you look a bit "new" to them -- because you don't even have a star yet.
So, where you "stand" depends on if people know you. I think that there are quite a few users that never really use the forums and just trade here that we don't think about much. For those people, I could see them expecting you to send first and such because you don't have an established "trading" reputation -- even though you have an established "actual" reputation.
My 2c.

That's a really excellent way to look at it, because there are indeed a lot of users that don't use the forums (whose opinions I will openly admit I wasn't taking into consideration when I was thinking about this). Then again, I'd never ask anyone with a larger trade history to send first anyway.
Thanks for your opinion.

Plus you're a woman with breasts, so I'm sure a lot of established male traders on here would send same time. I mean after all, if we're nice to you on this site, maybe you'll sleep with us someday?
Ahh, the cold, harsh mentality of GameTZ.
But in all seriousness I agree with what John said in that I would send same time with you just because I know you from the forums; I likely wouldn't even notice your lack of stars (I actually just noticed). |

I've been here for 3 1/2 years, I have a silver star, and I have 100% feedback. It bugs me quite a bit when some noob comes in and gets a gold star in 2 months with less than stellar feedback and then expects me to send first. Screw that!

Thanks for your opinions, and Noltillian, I have to agree there. Seniority should could for something when you're a starred trader.

Oh, you're not being mean at all. You make a completely valid point. What I meant was that starred traders who had been here for a long time should have their seniority to fall back on sometimes depending on how new the user with the higher number of trades is.
Someone like myself is still technically an inexperienced trader, and of course, even having been here as long as I have, if I had a trade pending with someone like yourself, I'd be sending first. That's only fair.

I think John said it best; you've been on the forums for a long time, and so the people who frequent the forums would probably be willing to vouch for you. Plus, you helped out with the sig generator, right? That's an automatic +5 kudos points.

Yeah, I do trust you, but if we traded, I would still ask you to send first, simply cause of the fact that you have few trades. There have been several examples of people who have many trades and are well known who just go bad (Crazy eights).

Like Johm said, it really depends on who you are dealing with. People who are familiar and comfortable with you in the forums probably wouldn't stress too much over it, but people who aren't familiar might. Also, many traders are extremely anal about # of trades being the only deciding factor to them. Less sends first regardless kind of mentality......these being some with hundreds of trades insisting a user with 20 less trades should send first.
Realistically, you haven't demonstrated many completed trades. Community involvement shouldn't be ignored, but the majority of users on the site don't go through the forums or chat. Everything they know is based on what they see on your page when they decide to look at it. Frankly, I don't think it's reasonable to expect someone with significantly more trades than you to send first or same time with you because you post a lot on the boards.
That said, I'd be more likely to send same time with you than I would some starred users based on their history, bad trade report collection, cancelled trades, flakiness, etc. For myself, I really don't need the headache of wondering about getting screwed around anymore or be expected to wait months for them to come up with $3 shipping money because of some 'family emergency' that won't allow them to ship a package but still let them be on here 24/7. I really don't care about my trade count anymore. I'm only in this to get things I can't get around here or get a good deal on things.

you're probably making less trades because your list is small and full of old crap no one wants (no offense)
GameTZ overall has been enjoying a sustained higher-than-normal trades-per-day count. It has been consistently over 60 trades per day for months now, with some days popping up over 100 per day. In the past, 50 trade per day or less was more common. |

Apples and oranges a little bit there. In the past, we had some different rules regarding what could be counted as a trade. I'm guessing some of that increase could be attributed to the rules change.

Oh I totally recognize that the stuff presently listed there is crap, lol. I'm planning to actually work on making it not crappy this summer, so in working theory I might actually do some trading.

Actually, I do want some of their stuff (from Uuaww and Kate), though if their lists are old crap mine must be prehistoric petrified excrement in comparison. I still wrangle the odd trade every couple of months though, so go me!
I personally take into consideration more than just stars when deciding if I should ask for someone to send first or same time. How long someone's been around, if they're subscribers and their ratings all play a factor. Then again, being foreign, I'm lucky enough to find people willing to trade with me at all (prehistoric petrified excrement list notwithstanding)... That aside, I'd trade and send same time to Kate with no worries. It's amazing how well you bond with someone while chucking rockets at one another in Quake. |

This can be taken 2 ways. Me not having enough coffee in my system ignored the PG-13 meaning.
Once I get my new computer and get more organized, I'm going to contact you about logo design. I really could use one for my business.
