I think it would be interesting to be able to see who voted +/- on a post, not just the combined score on it. You can do this on Fatwallet's forums and I find myself missing this feature as I'm browsing other sites.

This would also give people an easy way to do 2-choice polls without a separate polling system.

What do you guys think?

You can + if you agree and - if you disagree *raspberry*

I imagine we'd get plenty of retaliatory +/- votes.

I don't agree, but I pressed + anyway.

EDIT: Apparently you can also +/- yourself...

That makes no sense to me, but I - myself anyway.

Clearly quite a few people disagree with me on this one. *wink* Okay then, point taken.

I still think it would be useful, and interesting, information.

This would be possible... and, I think it makes some sense too... to have an open system where all votes are public... the way it is now, it's sort of semi-open... and, thus abusable. But, people like a system you can mess with too... that may be funner. Also, some of the stats are unclear (I don't even remember what they mean -- [scorers] huh?).

[scorers] shows how a person has been voting. So for example, -150 of 332 for Osiris today means that Osiris has made 91 + votes and 241 - votes.

I think a lot of it depends on what you see as the role of the voting system. If it's just to mess around and have fun, anonymous voting probably accomplishes that better. At Fatwallet it has a much more functional purpose of helping to quickly distinguish very informative (or very funny) topics/posts or deals from trolling/wrong information, etc. I've also seen moderators use it to gauge opinions on features/decisions ("Vote green if you want this, vote red if you don't") which I thought was pretty neat.

Public voting keeps the craziness a little bit in check - if someone votes like a fool, they're going to look like a fool. So in the long run, I think public voting would actually decrease the number of retaliatory votes that we see.

Also, the current system seems to cause much more negative voting than positive voting. Maybe that's ok, but it might be nice to encourage people to be more positive, which I think public voting would do.

Anyway, just some things to think about. *smile*

as far as i am concerned the voting system is only for fun and retaliation. dont mess with a good thing billiam. though you can disable voting for yourself.

(by the way, i gave myself a positive for this post and my first one. try negging that, bithces)

I did.

I like it when it's for crap and giggles, but when people start to say lets see how many people vote you positive so you can stay on the site! that's just bullcrap and retarded.

It's just for fun. You get nothing other than the love/hate of your peers.

I actually think the post voting system works fairly well at highlighting the most interesting/funny/good stuff.

This page... http://gametz.com/Scores.html is actually a pretty good indicator of what's going on.

I don't read most of the forums, but I'm able to follow highlights via that page (really an RSS feed that based on that info). Actually, I've found a few great Helen posts via the Scores page.

I know people also use the system to mess with people, but that sort of thing is really just noise when all is said and done.

It might be interesting to see a percentage for a person (instead of exact numbers and voters for each post). This could be accessible on a stats page for the person.
