I've never seen such an impressive display of e-perseverance. Dude does not let a single post fly, which is kind of amazing but mostly ingratiating because they're all so drawn out and hostile.

Very hostile. I seriously wonder what he's like in real life. He claims he's married with kids and if so I feel pity for them... |

In any case, I do not support the measure to ban him.

Being that he's not even been here a month yet, I say banning is a bit harsh even for him.
He'll be a member for a month exactly on the 11th, I say on that day give him a month long suspension and see if it teaches him anything. If he doesn't learn, banhammer.

Don't know about a ban, but definitely a restriction with a warning from the mods to cool it down...especially with the 5-6 posts in a row.
Though if Sheesh and Orgy managed to go this long pissing people off and having nothing done, I'm sure nothing will come of this anyway.

I dislike reading long topics filled with BS like that. If someone could summarize what happened that was bad and/or why dtp11 is a problem, that would be appreciated. I did see some complaints against dtp11 in the last week. But, they didn't seem to bad to me (just "trash talk").
I really think punishing people like this doesn't work very well. Though, I don't know what does work.
I am willing to do a long restriction just to solve the problem, though. If a user is just too annoying and making the forums unpleasant for a lot of people. |

This is going to come off completely disrespectful, but I never hold any punches, and I won't now.
If you get several complaints from prominent members of the GTZ community about a new member being a complete douchebag and calling people names and starting crap with people for no apparent reason...don't you think it might be worth your time to click two simple links? We've had to deal with this whiny troll for a few days now knocking everyone from Helen to new guys like thunderdonkey with no apparent self control or respect for what he's saying. And now, a mod, the head mod of this site 'disklikes' reading topics like those...? Yeah...so do the 5,000 active forum members of the site...
And the 'summary' you asked for...isn't that what the 'complaint' system is for? I'd think those should've done enough justice...

The best part is that he has the same anti-GameStop thread going over at Goozex too. Makes me wonder how many other boards are blessed with the same troll thread.

i would say he might benefit from a little "cool down" restriction time too but he was like this literally right off the bat so im thinking thats just the way he is. in which case, he needs to go. he has written a proverbial 50 page essay in that thread over just stupid stuff and everything he is saying is either attacking someone or stating facts that are just wrong. i guess it is kinda funny.. |

| | #12 posted May 9, 2008 at 8:26am (EDT) |
i think it's precisely BECAUSE he was this way right off the bat that he doesn't need to be banned.
As I mentioned in the Sheesh thread, dtp is new and he has a chip on his shoulder. In all likelihood, he'll cool off and the issue will resolve itself on its own.

Yeah perhaps a ban may be too stong, but certainly a forum restriction.
He's becoming a parasite and attacking anyone who dares oppose his view (which is generally flawed, so practically everyone does oppose him.)
Calling Miranda a "filthy dirty whore".
Calling practically everyone else "douchebag, fudging idiot, ignorant, stupid" etc etc etc
Not to mention the giant walls of text...

Okay, I've never really been good with these "trolling" situations, but here's my take:
I agree that this guy comes off as arrogant, sometimes hostile, and near impossible to reason with. I would have pegged him as a teenager based on all of the "I'm right and everyone who doesn't agree with me is stupid" arguments - not necessarily bad, but definitely brash and immature.
Though, I think a lot of why we have situations like this is that there are many people here who, when they think someone is being irrational (especially a new user), are not content to try to reason with them or just ignore them. They have to come in with the smartass comments, sarcasm, flames and mockery. This causes more people to follow suit. Sometimes these comments are funny. But mostly they just fuel the fire and make the other person even more defensive - it's hard to stay rational when it seems a mob has formed against you.
Maybe that's just the way the internet is. Or at least just the way GameTZ is. Either way, I don't think it's completely the fault of the "troll" in question.
Anyway, I don't think a ban or restriction for dtp is the right answer. |

Ok, no ban. That's just the first phrase that pops into mind. It's kind of a joke sometimes, too. But, I do think that some sort of warning or SOMETHING is in order here. Bill, maybe as site owner and head honcho, you can send him a message, telling him to cool it or something. He could even turn out to be a great trader, he just needs an attitude adjustment.

My guess is he'll be restricted again within 2 weeks after that.
And anyone stupid enough to piss off the "boss" deserves a year restriction.

Yup, and probably for doing nothing worse than DTP, Orgy, or any other troll here does on a daily basis. That would only make sense.
Hopefully we start cutting off hands/arms for BTRs, ya know, cause that would only make sense as well. (though that isn't necessarily a bad idea...)

in a PM between myself and dtp:
dtp wrote:
You're right, I did say that I could not speak on behalf of you marrying or not marrying such a woman since I do not know you or her. My point in saying that at that time was to mock you in the fact that you can't speak for things you don't know. My intention was not to call your wife that. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
My apology does not mean I am admitting you were right about everything and I was wrong about everything. My apology was for the name-calling and for my approach like you said - yes. Respectable people on here have said that I was provoked first and then mobbed which resulted in my name-calling/I'm right, everyone else is wrong attitude, as part of my defense, but my apology still remains.
You agreed with me on few points and I agree with you that I shouldn't have called names and that not all EB games suck.
I admit, most of it was opinions and the name calling was unnecessary.
You can't say that everything you posted I responded with childish remarks because that simply isn't true. That's an exaggeration. Sure, some of it was childish though, you're right.
Sorry my tone came off as sarcastic, but it wasn't meant to be that way. Maybe it was because it was such a drastic change from my other posts, that people still were reading it in a sarcastic way. I thought it was pretty clear when I said "I apologize to those I've offended and also to those I've called names. You were all right all along, I was wrong the whole time. No sarcasm there either." Especially the "no sarcasm there either" part. I guess it was blended in with a couple other semi-sarcastic remarks that people overlooked it.
Anyway, I'd like to repost, but I said I wouldnt. Or at least not until people cool down. So if you feel like spreading the word of my sincere apology to everyone, that would be helpful. I've already apologized personally to a couple other people already. Thanks.
So there you have it folks. He may not be a lost cause after all.....
I hereby retract my request to ban him. |
