I've got a user that is trying to pay me some paypal funds via the "pay me" link on my bio page. The user keeps telling me that when he clicks it, it is automatically adding a $20.00 shipping and handling fee. I don't think I've ever done anything that set it at 20 bucks, nor would I have in the first place.
I told him to simply log onto PayPal the normal way and proceed with the transaction, and I also sent him a payment request, but its a little weird that he said this happened to him. I've received a bunch of other paypal payments this week and nobody else stated this info.
Is he doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with the "pay me" link?
Thanks.

there's nothing wrong with your pay me link.
i just used it and got no shipping charge or anything.
i got to the point where if i do one more click you will have my money, so i stopped. (i know, i know, but I assume you have a premier account, and so sending you a penny would actually cost you money)
i think the other user may be the one with the issue... perhaps he set the s/h fee on something and it stuck?
One day I will kill him.
Then, I will be Ten. |

Hey Sid... Knight PM'd me about this and showed me screenshots, etc.
So, I tried a few more times and I am getting a shipping charge when I try to pay you now. I don't think I was getting it before. But I am now...
I don't get it when i try to pay GameTZ's subscription paypal address...
Is it possible you have some shipping option setup on your paypal account? |

I'll double check, but I don't believe I do.
Thats wonky.
I'll ask some of my other pendings who just paid me recently if they came across this. . .
bizzare!

Paypal has been royally sucking more than normal lately. Apart from this, they changed my payment setup from my bank account to a credit card I no longer used and royally sscrewed up my bills. I would call them to let them know if I were you.

I've had that happen a few times when trying to pay someone on here. Since it wouldn't let me change the shipping I adjusted the amount for the item so that when it added the shipping it came out to the right figure.Although that wouldn't help if the shipping amount is more than the full amount you are paying.

i've found that it only seems to do it on certain people's links.. I wasn't able to pay Bleedingblackrose that way but i also sent a payment of 4.00 to Visc and it went through fine without adding any extra shipping..maybe it only does that after a certain amount? |

I sent two payments today and they went through without the shipping additional cost.
Could it be a specific thing you put in when paying the person? Like selecting the different category of type of purchase? Maybe it has something to do with the seller's account not accepting the buyer's account so it charges shipping fee only to certain ones?

At first, I couldn't get it to happen. But, then after trying it a few different ways, it started happening. I think it's a bug at PayPal. We should probably mention it to them. |

I attempted to pay Bleedingblackrose as well and paypal was adding $5.00 for shipping so I just factored it into my payment. Still weird though. |

How do you make adjustment to the amount after you've put it in. I always have to close the window and go back to the person's bio page and redo everything.

I googled this and its been happening for a few years now. Here's what one person mentioned as a solution:
Figured it out! Turns out it was a paypal issue. If this is happening to you, log into paypal and go to:
PayPal > Profile > Shipping Calculations
Delete any pre-set shipping tables and you should be good. |

I was shipping something from eBay and went to fill out the shipping label through paypal and it said he paid $20 for shipping when he only paid 4.95.
I couldn't even print the label because they wanted to charge me the $20.

that's really odd thought because i had trouble paying Bleedingblackrose through her paypal link here, but i then went to paypal itself and there were no problem it didn't add any extra fees to the payment. |

Yeah it couldnt be that, because A get charged for paying B and not for paying C, D get charged for paying C and not B. It seems random to me.

I talked to Bleedingblackrose about this problem she said she has reset her shipping information on Paypal multiple times but it still won't fix it. |

Can someone act like they are sending me paypal cash to see if it does it for you? If you can't cancel it, I'll send it right back when I receive it. I'm wondering if its based on the payment type (ebay, goods non auction, service, other, etc)? |

it doesn't, Ryan. It doesn't offer you a choice of what the payment is for. You just enter in a description and a price.

So, speaking of this... I just pended a trade with Richie and, when it was accepted by both sides, there was no link to send PayPal on the trade page. Wasn't that just added last month or something? Or am I remembering wrong. No big deal, since I just used the Bio link instead -- but I thought that it was supposed to show up on the trade page?

Yeah, it should show... if it's on his user page, it should be linked in the trade too... I think. |

| | #32 posted September 19, 2008 at 8:33am (EST) |
hm... well, I had some code in there which would obfuscate the link because it contained an email address... it replaces the HTML with some javascript that spits out harder-to-parse stuff. But, it wasn't printing in that case and I'm not sure why. The same code it used on the user page, and it's working fine. I know the paypal link has worked in the past too...
Anyway, I just removed it. The obfuscate is to thwart spambot email collectors and a pended trade is already protected from that, so it's not needed there anyway. |
