Don't know how taxing this would be on your system, but:
Is there a way to show the overall average of scores that a user has, given his posts?
I would imagine colon would be in the positive column, and OrgXII in the negative.

Bill, what does the "scorers" tab account for?

Chad
| | #8 posted June 26, 2009 at 1:10pm (EST) |
you still need to somehow archive scores. i think i speak for everyone when I say it is the most important feature on the site. |

| | #9 posted June 26, 2009 at 1:13pm (EST) |
By archive, do you mean make an "all time" list, added to the existing week/month/year choice?

Correct.
And you wouldn't have to go through a decade, the scoring system is pretty new and so far, once its archived its lost forever. |

The forum archive is problematic (too big)... I'm not even sure I'll be able to keep the posts let alone scores.
scorers - the people casting the most +/- votes (actually it counts an average per user... so you can see who is plusing or negging the most, on average)

Chad
| | #15 posted June 26, 2009 at 4:28pm (EST) |
dont need all scored posts, just those that are +/- 10 |

I think it would be kinda cool if you could spend only the points you obtain. It would give people more incentive to post better things instead of threadcrap I think.

What I mean is an overall average per posts.
Say I have 5 posts, and their scores are 0, 14, -7, 4, and -1. The average of that would be 18-8 = 10/5 = 2.

I think the only difference between what you posted in #2 and what I was asking for is the division by number of posts. In #27 I would have a score of 10 under the scores list you already have in place. What that one is doing is taking the overall sum -- not the overall average.

CoachMcGuirk - ah, I see. But, your number will be watered down by all the zero score posts... I assume most people will have an average between -1 and 1.
Actually, given the way the calculaton is done, it's hard to do it that way. The Scores pages, just counts up scores, but a post without any scores would not even be seen. I'd have to go about it the other way, counting all posts, then seeing if any also had scores... Maybe Duffman could help me create SQL to do that, it would have to be some kind of compound query. |

OK... I tried to generate an example of what you're talking about...
Using forum posts and scores since midnight June 26th, I have 132 forum posts by you. And your total score is -42.
So, your average would be -42 / 132 or -0.3182.
I guess if that was compared to others, could could sort of see someone's overall performance here. But, the numbers will be small, fractional things. |
The_U
| | #35 posted June 27, 2009 at 4:34pm (EST) |
just multiply all numbers by 1000 so we can get real numbers.

The differences will still be tiny, since then everything will be in a range of -1000 to 1000, but with negligible differences from one to the next. Your "real" numbers are just an illusion created by scaling the numbers x 1000.

Let's multiply all the numbers by i that way none of the numbers will be real.

I was thinking that would be the same as the sum number, but I guess it would be sum / count (of scored posts) ...
It still ends up being a smallish fractional number, I think. *shrug*

Eh, it was just something I kinda wanted to see. Like if you had an overall positive number, most of what you were posting on the forums was generally liked, and vice versa for a negative.
I took a major hit from the Michael Jackson popcorn spamming from a couple days ago, though
