What is the purpose of this +/- score system? It seems useless for the most part other then driving away people or giving even good traders a negative image based on negs given by brats and jerks.
If there is a topic with the debates, I'd like to know the link so I can read why this useless system was implemented.
I wouldn't surprised this topic gets the most negged. Then I can hold the new record for the "most negged topic" eh? |

The system was implemented to let people know someone secretly hates someone else.
Except Sheesh. We openly hated him.

Of note to add. I've been here for over 10 years and without this -/+, the community felt more lively and positive. Soon after this scoring system was implemented, feels like a lot negative vibes going all around, especially with a new generation of young traders wanting to be a d--- goes around negging just about every single posts and even sometimes include smartass comments.
What happened to the once friendly, close knit community during the early years of this wonderful and still the best trading site? |

You just summed up why I'm taking a vacation from the site soon.
Got sucked into a couple more trades first though.
I don't think it has anything to do with the +/- system, but some people just go too far all the time.

I like the scoring system. I don't think it's important per se, but it's fun and a nice way for people to reflect positive or negative reactions to things, without posting.
Frank, I love you, everyone loves you. What you just said upsets me. Tell me who to ban so that you'll stay and I'll do it without question.
But, seriously, taking a break from the site is often a good thing to do. I'd do it myself if I could. God knows I need it. I'm jealous.
But, crap, this has really been a crapty week so far. |

I have seen people get unhappy about getting negged. In some cases, it may just be 1 person negging all of someone's posts. That sort of thing makes me think maybe I could detect such abuses and try to compensate. But, then I think that's a stupid waste of my time. The scoring system is there just for fun. I don't want to get too serious about it. You can see who negs the most on the Scores page if you click "scorers" and "lowest". But, I'm not really seeing a smoking gun from that. |

One thing I could do that might help would be to allow subscribers to hide the scoring system altogether.
Or, hide negative votes and only show positive votes. |

If you ever feel like taking a break from the site, I will gladly deliver countless banhammers while you are away. Then I'll buy 3 years of sub time.
I suppose the option to hide the score in general is good. I like the scoring, really. But some people just can't take it.

I have to admit, I get a cheap thrill out of getting plussed myself. I follow the high score RSS feed and when I see my own post show up, it's like winning the lottery.
Though, it's often when I do something evil. So, it can be a mixed thing too. |

The major problem I have with this system is this:
Some jackass (I have my suspicions on who it is, but it remains unconfirmed for obvious reasons) has made it a habit to find just about every post I make and slap a neg on it, instead of just coming out and saying he has a problem with me and my "twisted" approach to ethics. The +/- system allows people to be cowards behind the scenes while still retaining the internet tough guy image.

I'm confused how you can make a post asking WHEN the system was implemented and then immediately state that you've noticed that "soon after" it was implemented, you noticed the negative vibes.
If you don't know when it was implemented, how can you relate its creation to when you noticed the negative vibes? And that, without it, it felt more lively and positive?

I'll actually agree that, years ago, it did seem less negative -- I just don't see how you can relate it to the +/- system when you admit that you don't know when it was implemented. I think it is due to other factors unrelated to the +/- system. Or, at least, it isn't some major part of it.

Another thing I could do is give subscribers an extra point that can be used or not when scoring. So, they'd get -2, -1, 0, +1, +2.
That would surely solve this problem! |

I don't really mind it, but I still question the system to myself. For I have my personal online stalker that goes negging all my post every day for the past 3 months I think. But I know who it is, I just don't care since he is wasting his time.
The only time I really see a plus is to Frank, Willyum ,and Bill. For everyone else I see negs on their post
Now go negg the crap out of this post. |

http://gametz.com/?A=Scores&table=ForumMessages ... a lot of posts are getting 's...
It seems that a number of people think they have someone negging all their posts... I assume that's hard to prove, but it seems plausible.
The "Scorers" page shows who's making the most negs...

I am high up there for the negs the month, but when people are giving plus i see more of them for the Ban this "guy" ones and the general chat areas those are the post that usually get the plus.
I personally see more people negging on the console/classified section, and not telling the person why they would neg.
But anyway, if you go back around 2 pages from all my post, you can still all those list of -1 negs dating way back. From that one person. My negger stalker is on and off, but it has been awhile since he did it again |

THE SCORING SYSTEM MUST GO! It is clearly having an adverse impact on my donations to get a PS3 due to the ever prevalent bandwagon mentality on this site! So many negs has led to people doubting the legitimacy of your very generous donation to my cause.
Furthermore it is a system that gave post 31 in this topic a scant 13 +s when it was without a doubt the most brilliant post of the year.

while supporting unoriginal material of regurgitated pics with a plethora of pluses! I mean how this picture I posted
could be my highest rated of all time while something like this receives only 2/3rds of the +? It's a crime I tell you!

When I look at the Scores page, I see most of the stuff being 's because it's funny. At the moment, there isn't much T&A up there. The negative scores are harder to classify, but I think I'm seeing some sellers with bad deals or bad aspects. I see one guy with a nice list of games for sale, but at the bottom is a line about him wanting concealed cash. I assume that's why he got negged.
But, anyway, some of the people characterizing scores seem to be out of sync with to what the actual score page is showing.
I agree the scoring breakdown display for number of 's vs. 's is another possible subscriber feature. |

Well, if you think the system is fine the way it is, obviously my suggestion is no good. But if you share an opinion with Starwave and think it contributes to the site's negative tone, the obvious solution is to allow promotion of posts you like and exclude demotion of posts you don't.
