the graph depicts brawl's sales. i was somewhat kinda disappointed at first til i recognized the red is 1 month for brawl. the blue is lifetime for the other titles...

Wow, in one month it completely outsold the original. Thats a good sign, i think it should be able to pass melee no problem.

I was under the impression Melee was a bit higher than that. Hm.

There is no way Melee sold under 4 million copies.

Here we go: according to Wikipedia, 4 million is the number as of last December '07. However... "As of March 10, 2008, Super Smash Bros Melee is the best-selling GameCube game, with more than seven million copies sold worldwide."

I think the more important question is whether Brawl can sustain these kinds of sales: of course the first month is going to be nuts seeing as Super Smash hadn't had an update in close to a decade, but Melee reached Best Seller and 7 mil; will Brawl be able to get that high?

That's what I thought. 4 million is just too low, I knew it wasn't 4.

Lol, I read part of the review for Melee on Wiki.

"Too fast for it's own good"; "too frantic"; "more about wrapping your head around what's going on then actually doing stuff".

Game reviewers crack me up.

Lol, because we all have to be extra careful of people making up numbers that can be easily cross-referenced and corrected.

Wiki can be edited by anyone, but I'm pretty sure they have at least a rudimentary filter process that prevents you from hacking, say Hilary Clinton's bio because you're pro-Obama.

Oh and by the way, the numbers ARE cross-referenced on the Wiki, from Nintendo's own website no less:

http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/1u0FthaPxT...

All the way at the bottom: 7.09 million.

I think there was only one month (could be more, but I don't think so) the entire time Melee was out that it wasn't on the top 10 seller list for GC (according to NP), I wonder if Brawl can pull the same...

I seriously doubt it. I mean, Mario Kart Wii is coming out this month isn't it?

I think the strength of Melee was that toward the end of the Gamecube's lifespan, it was fairly cheap to pick up a copy and a system and some controllers. They kept reprinting it, so $30-40 + $30-40 + $30-40, respectively for retail copy of Melee, retail Gamecube, a retail controller or two? No more than $120-140 at the very most buying only retail, I would say.

For Brawl, you have to invest in a $250 Wii system right off the bat. It's almost uneconomical.

I don't think the strength was toward the end, but moreso it had a solid strength the whole time.
